He was also named the Class 5A Coach of the Year for his team’s performance… In his six years at Laurens…  In his six years at Laurens his teams had a combined record of 34-35 and were also the Region Champions in 2016… Before coming to Laurens, Coach Liner spent six years at the helm of the Ninety Six Wildcats where his teams went 43-26… Prior to that, he worked as an assistant at Greenwood for 11 years under Shell Dula… Greenwood’s gain is a great loss for the Raiders as not only is Greenwood getting a great coach but an even better man… To see a press release about this from Laurens District 55, click here.

CHS Red Devils: Last Friday night the Red Devils started region play as they hosted the Union County Yellow Jackets.

  • G: CHS 45 – UCHS 35… The Lady Red Devils started the game off a little on the cold side last Friday night as the Yellow Jackets carried a 21-16 lead into the locker room at the half… One problem for the Red Devils in the first half was that they only made 4 of 12 free throws in the first 16 minutes of play… The Red Devils came out of the locker room hot and outscored Union 20-5 to take the lead and then went on to a 45-35 win… Free throws were still a problem for the Red Devils in the second half as they only made 10 of 35 free throw attempts… The Red Devils had two players scoring in double-digits as DeShanti Watts led all scorers with 16 points and Tinique Austin finished with 15… Payton Price-Walker finished with 8 points while Taneal Evans, Asia Boyd and Serenity Baker all scored 2 points…. The Red Devils are now 12-3 on the season and 1-0 in region play.
  • B: UCHS 60 – CHS 34… Now the news is not as good for Red Devil fans where the boys are concerned as the Yellow Jackets took a 60-34 win over the Red Devils… The score was 6-6 after the first 8 minutes of play and 21-14 Union at the half… Union outscored the Red Devils by 6 in the third quarter and put the game away in the fourth quarter outscoring the Red Devils 20-7… Coach Romines commented how Union was a much taller team than the Red Devils overall and their defense caused the Red Devils many problems that resulted in a high turnover rate for the Red Devils… He was still proud of his team’s effort but Union was just better Friday night… Union’s Ladarius Jeffries was the game’s leading scorer with 25 points and was the only Yellow Jacket in double-digits… The Red Devils also had only one player in double-digits and that was Kimon Quarles who finished with 11 points… Jadden Copeland scored 9 points, CK Vance 7, Wil Stewart 3, Danny Kinard 2 and Konnor Richardson 2… The Red Devils fall to 1-14 overall and 0-1 in region play… They will travel down to Prosperity tomorrow to take on the Mid-Carolina Rebels in region action.

  • B: WHHS 66 – LDHS 57… The Generals completed the sweep of the Raiders last Friday night by taking a 66-57 win over the Raider varsity boys… As they have been for most of their games this season, the Raiders gave good effort but came up just a little bit short… The Raiders actually led 31-25 at the half but the Generals came back out in the third quarter on fire as they outscored the Raiders in the quarter to lead by 1 (42-41) going into the final 8 minutes of play… In those final 8 minutes they again outscored the Raider to make the final 66-57… The Raiders’ Dee Foster had a game-high 22 points to lead the Raiders in scoring and Dra Copeland was also in double digits with 12 points… Both Josh Cureton and Leonard Williams finished with 8 points each, Preston Mahon 5, and Chase Jackson 2… The Raiders fall to 5-9 overall and 1-3 in region play… The Raiders will be on the road tomorrow traveling up to Woodmont HS to take on the Wildcats.

Laurens Academy Crusaders: The Laurens Academy Crusaders do travel down to Batesburg last Friday to take on the Knights of WW King Academy

  • G: LA 57 – WWKA 17… The Lady Crusaders had both their offense and defense running on all cylinders as they took a dominating 57-17 win over the Knights… The Knights never scored over 6 points in a quarter and actually were held to just 3 points in the second and fourth quarters… The Crusaders scored at least 10 point in every quarter and at the most 18 (in the first)… Regan Williamson outscored the Knights as she had 24 points and Olivia Huck was also in double-digits with 10… Blair Quarles finished with 9, Payton Breen 6, SG Natiello4, Rylee Ballard 2 and Emily Settles 2…. Thomas Lowry finished with 7 points, Colton McGee 3, Cal Robertson 2, Luke Kerber 2 and Clarence Bertoli 1… The Crusaders even their season record at 8-8 and go to 3-0 in region play… The Crusaders will be back in action tomorrow as they host the Greenville Hurricanes.
