  • Freshman Boys: LDHS 33 – WHS 24… In freshman boys’ action, the Raiders took a 33-24 win over the Wildcats… The Raiders jumped out to a 16-7 lead at the half and then weathered a Wildcat comeback in the third quarter as the score stood 22-18 Raiders going into the final 6 minutes of play… The Raiders outscored them 11-6 down the stretch even though they only made 5 of 9 free throws in the final quarter… TyQua Johnson led the Raiders in scoring with 12 points… Other scoring for the Raiders were KD Mosley with 8 points, Jay Hunter 6, Gemire Darden 4 and Michael Wormley 3.
  • JVB: WHS 34 – LDHS 24… Now the news is not as good for Raider fans where the JV boys are concerned as the Wildcats took a 34-24 win over the Raiders… The story in this game was the first quarter where the Wildcats held the Raiders scoreless in the first quarter while they put of 12 points that the Raiders in a whole they just could not climb out of… Travon Hunter and Waldrick Burnside led the Raiders with 7 points each… Van Butler had 5 points and Chris Graham had 1 with 1 Raider point unaccounted for.

College Notes:

  • Men’s AP D-I Basketball Poll… Earlier this week the men’s D-I College Basketball AP Poll came out and Gonzaga still checked in at # 1… Baylor moved up two spots to #2 while Duke dropped a spot to #3… Auburn and Butler rounded out the top 5 in that order… sports 6-10 were occupied by Kansas, San Diego State, Oregon, Florida State and Kentucky… Now I promise there will be some shakeup when the poll comes back out on Sunday night because on Tuesday night Clemson defeated #3 Duke 79-72 at home and then last night Alabama defeated #4 Auburn 83-64 while the South Carolina Gamecocks defeated #10 Kentucky 81-78 on a 3-point shot at the buzzer in Columbia… #5 Butler was also knocked off by Seaton Hall last night 78-70… To see the entire men’s AP Poll click here.
  • Women’s AP D-I Basketball Poll… Over the season there has not been a whole lot of shakeup in eh top 190 in the women’s AP Poll but that is not the case this week… South Carolina moved all the way from #4 to #1 this week while Baylor also moved up from #6 to #4… Stanford moved up 2 spots to #3 while last week’s #1 UConn dropped to #4 and Louisville rounded out the top 5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Oregon (formerly #2), UCLA, Oregon State (formerly #3), NC State and Mississippi State… To see the entire AP Women’s Poll click here.
