Sports Report for Tuesday, 2-11-2020

  • MBK: Campbell 79 – PC 62… Last Saturday afternoon the Blue Hose men’s basketball team traveled up to Buies Creek, NC to take on the Campbell Camels… The Camels jumped out to a 38-28 lead at the half and then shot almost 70% in the second as they went on to take a 79-62 win… The Blue Hose did try to come back several times in the second half but the Camels answered each run with one of their own… Corey Hightower led the Blue Hose in scoring with 19 points… The Blue Hose fall to 9-16 overall and 6-6 in Big South play… The team will be back in action as they travel to Radford for a 7 p.m. contest and the game can be seen on ESPN+ and heard on the PC Sports Network.
  • WBK: PC 82 – Longwood 77… The Lady Blue Hose were also on the road last Saturday as they traveled to Farmville, VA to take on the Longwood Lancers… PC led 38-28 at the half but the Lancers came back in the second half and tied the game 64-64 at the end of regulation to send the game into overtime… PC scored the first 9 points in the overtime and then went on to take an 82-77 win over the Lancers… Jade Hampton had a program record 32 points to lead the Blue Hose in scoring… The team improves to 4-9 in Big South play and 8-14 overall… The team will be back at home tonight as they host the Bulldogs of UNC Ashville at the Templeton Center with tipoff scheduled for 6 p.m.… The game can be seen on ESPN+.
  • Softball… The Blue Hose softball team started their season this past weekend as they hosted the Blue Hose Invitational… The team started its season on a positive note as they won 3 of 4 games they played… On Friday they defeated Robert Morris 3-0 in the first game but lost to Robert Morris 7-6 in the second game… On Saturday they defeated Norfolk State 3-1 and on Sunday they defeated South Carolina State 8-0

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils: The Red Devil JV teams completed their season last night as they traveled up to Woodruff to take on the Wolverines.

  • G: WHS 36 – CHS 28… The Red Devil JV girls’ team came into last night’s contest with the Wolverines with a perfect 14-0 record on the season which is quite an accomplishment… They had high hopes of making 15-0 buy unfortunately the Wolverines took a 36-28 win… Anna Litzenberger led the Red Devils in scoring with 12 points… Congratulations to Coach Speaks and the team on a great season and getting the girls ready for varsity work next season!
  • B: CHS 58 – WHS 49… Now the news is better where the JV boys are concerned as they finished their season defeating the Wolverines 58-49… Tylon Scurry led the Red Devils with 15 points and James Anderson was also in double-digits with 10 points… The team finished its season with a very respectable 11-4 record… Congratulations to Coach Bridges and the team!
  • Varsity at Home Tonight… The Red Devil varsity basketball teams will finish their regular season tonight as they place host to the Woodruff Wolverines… The Red Devil girls’ team is tied with Woodruff for first place in the region as both have 8-1 region records… The winner of the game tonight will be the region champion.

LDHS Raiders: The Raider sub-varsity teams were at home last night as they hosted the TL Hanna Yellow Jackets.

  • JV Girls Lose… Now Coach Kelly did not get the details of the game to me but she did tell me that the Raiders lost to the Yellow Jackets… If I get more details later I will pass them on to you.
  • Freshman Boys: TLH 43 – LDHS 40… The freshman boys’ team lost a close one last night as the Yellow Jackets took a 43-40 win… The game was tied 17-17 at the half and the Yellow Jackets outscored the Raiders by a point in the third quarter to take a 26-25 lead into the final 6 minutes of play… The Raiders just could not get any closer as the Yellow Jackets outscored them down the stretch to take a 43-40 win… KD Mosley had a game-high 15 points to lead the Raiders and TyQua Johnson was also in double-digits with 10 points… Demar Massey finished with 7 points, Jay Hunter 4, Trae Hill 2 and Jordan Roberts 2.
  • JVB” LDHS 50 – TLH 27… In the final game at LDHS last night, the Raiders avoided being swept as the JV boys took a 50-27 win over the Yellow Jackets in what Coach Peake called their “best game of the season”… The Raider defense held the Yellow Jackets to just 6 points in the first half while they put 24 on the board and then did not let Hanna outscore them in the third or fourth quarter taking the win… Van Butler and Isaiah Craig led the Raiders with 10 points each… Chris Graham finished with 9 points, Isaac Craig 7. Travon Hunter 7, Waldrick Burnside 6 and Tye Roberson 1.
  • Varsity on the Road Today… The Raider varsity basketball teams will be on the road tonight traveling to TL Hanna HS to take on the Yellow Jackets with girls’ action starting at 6:00 pm. 

Laurens Academy Crusaders:

  • Boys Varsity Play Tonight… The Laurens Academy Crusader varsity boys’ basketball tem will start their participation in the Region Tournament this afternoon down at Newberry Academy… They will be taking on the knights of WW King at 5:30 in quarter finals action… The Lady Crusaders will not start their play in the tournament until Friday against an opponent to be determined by other games in the tournament today.

Little League Baseball (L3)… Registration is now open for L3 baseball at the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters The Ridge… L3 will be for youth ages 7-12 and the cost will be $60…. There will be 3 age groupings which include Coaches Pitch, Minors and Majors… Registration is set to close on Thursday February 20th… Register at The Ridge during normal business hours and if you want more information call them at 681-7275… You can also find more information on their website…. Tee Ball and Softball at the Laurens YMCA…. Registration is now open for Tee Ball and Softball at the Laurens Family YMCA… Tee Ball is for youth ages 3-6 and softball is for young ladies ages 7-9… The cost for either is $60 and registration will close March 1st… Stop by the YMCA to register during their normal business hours and if you have any questions call them at 984-2626

 

 Youth Baseball, Youth Softball and O-Zone Baseball Registration Open at the Clinton YMCA… Registration is now open at the Clinton YMCA for youth baseball and softball from ages 3 all the way to 11 years old… Registration will cost $50 for YMCA members while non-member registration is $65. A $10 discount will be provided for each additional child in the same family and Financial Assistance is available to families as well…. The deadline to register is Tuesday, February 11th and you can register at the Y during their normal business hours… For more information call the Y at 833-155 or see below:

  • Co-ed instructional baseball will be offered for youth ages 3-6 divided into at least 3 age groupings.
  • Baseball for youth 7-10 will be organized into 2 appropriate competitive divisions.
  • Softball for young ladies 7-12 in 3 appropriate competitive age groupings will also be offered… For more information about youth softball, youth baseball or co-ed baseball (all mentioned above), click here.
  • O-Zone baseball is also offered for youth ages 11-12 years old and is more like high school baseball than any of the other age groupings mentioned above… For more information about O-Zone baseball click here.
