Sports Report for Wednesday, 2-12-2020

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils: In their final regular season games, the Red Devils hosted the Wolverines of Woodruff HS on Senior Night.

  • G: CHS 30 – WHS 24… In the first game last night at CHS, the Lady Red Devils claimed the region championship by defeating the Wolverines 30-26… It was a game that featured about as many turnovers in the first half as there points as the score stood 8-7 Red Devils at the half while woodruff had 13 turnovers and Clinton 6 in the first 16 minutes of play… The offense for both teams was erratic as the score stood 16-15 Red Devils going into the fourth quarter… The score was 24-23 Woodruff with 2:52 left to play but the Red Devils used their defense to create turnover down the stretch as they scored 7 unanswered points to claim the region title… DeShanti Watts led the Red Devils in scoring with a game-high 12 points… Tinique Austin scored 8 points, Taneal Evans 5, Grayson Taylor 3, and Payton Price-Walker 2… The Red Devils will be hosting a first round playoff game next Monday against an opponent yet to be determined.
  • B: WHS 54 – CHS 43… The news is not as good where the Red Devil boys are concerned as they finished their season with a 54-43 loss to the Wolverines… The young Red Devils (7 freshmen, 3 sophomores, 2 juniors and a senior) played tough and only trailed by 9 (29-20) at the half… They cut that lead to 6 (36-30) going into the fourth quarter but just could get no closer… Davis Wilson, Wil Stewart and Konnor Richardson each had 10 points to lead the Red Devil scoring… Richardson, who is the only senior on the team, also had a great night rebounding… Austin Copeland finished with 4 points, CK Vance 3, Kimon Quarles 3. Jadden Copeland 2 and Tylon Scurry 1… The Red Devils finish their season with a 1-23 record but due to the number of young players the Red Devils had to play, Coach Eddie Romines thinks the future is bright for the Red Devil basketball program.
