More on Pay Increase for Laurens City Employees

Laurens City Council’s budget for next fiscal year, as approved on first reading Tuesday evening, includes a pay hike for all city employees. City Administrator Gary Coleman told WLBG yesterday the goal is to help reduce employee turnover. He said if the plan receives final approval, it will provide each employee a $1.00 per hour increase. He noted this method results in a higher percentage of increase for people with lower salaries. Coleman told WLBG the pay raises for all employees will cost an additional $200,000 per year. He said that is being funded without raising additional revenue to operate the city through line item cuts to the budget for the next fiscal year in all departments of the city.
