PC Notes:

  • PC Men’s Basketball Picks Up Transfer… As you may recall the PC men’s basketball team lost its leading scorer Corey Hightower a couple of weeks ago when he decided to transfer to Western Carolina… Well PC has filled that spot as Brandon Younger will transfer to the PC coming from UNC-Charlotte… He will not be eligible to play in the upcoming season under the current NCAA rules and will have to sit out a season but will have two years of eligibility left… He is a 6-7 guard who played in 45 games over the last two years for the 49ers… Now for more on this story including comments from Coach Quinton Ferrell click here.
  • Goldbach Named Director of Recruiting and/ Player Development for Men’s BasketballWhile we are on the subject of men’s basketball at PC, Coach Ferrell also recently announced that Erik Goldbach has been promoted to Director of Recruiting and Player Development for the Blue Hose men’s basketball team… He was video coordinator for the Blue Hose and before that was the Director of Basketball Operations at Saint Peters University… To read more about him and this story click here
  • Sharp Adds Two West Coast Recruits… Also recently PC head women’s basketball coach Alaura Sharp announced the signing of two recruits from California… Sabrina Belquist is one of them and she is a 5”11 guard coming out of Los Gatos HS where she was there time all-conference player averaging 17 points per game this last season… The other is Nyah Willis a 5”10 guard from san Hose, California who has played one year at Cabot College in Hayward, California… She averaged 15.6 points per game… Now for more information on these two players and comments from them and Coach Sharp click here.


  • Keselowski Gets a Gift win at Bristol… Yesterday at Bristol Brad Keselowski got an early Christmas present as with 2 laps to go race leaders Joey Logano and Chase Elliott had a little paint swapping incident going high into the wall in front of him allowing him to stay low and take the lead which then translated into the unexpected win… It was his second win of the season and he took the checkered flag a little under half a second in front of Clint Bower with Jimmie Johnson finishing third… To see more on this race click here and it will take you to the NASCAR website where there is a link to the complete order of finish also.
  • Xfinity Race Tonight… The next race on the NSACAR schedule is an Xfinity Series race tonight at Bristol with the green flag dropping soon after 7 pm.

Local YMCAs Open with RestrictionsThe Clinton and Laurens YMCAs have now reopened with restrictions and changes due to the COVID-19 pandemic with the safety of their members and staff in mind.

  • Clinton YMCA… The Clinton Family YMCA opened Monday, 5-18-2020 under what they refer to as Phase 1 Guidelines and Restrictions… First the Y’s hour are now Monday-Friday 7am to 7 pm, Saturday 7am to 6 pm and closed on Sunday… The list of restrictions and guidelines are quite long but a few of them require social distancing (6 feet minimum), use of one entrance only where all will have their temperature checked, class sizes limited to 10, gym for walking only (no basketball), time limits on some equipment and many other items including but not limited to more frequent cleaning and sanitizing… To see the entire list of guidelines and restrictions click here.
  • Laurens YMCA Moves to Phase II of Reopening… The Laurens YMCA (which is part of the Lakelands Region YMCA) has moved into Phase II of its reopening… Their hours of operation are still Monday-Friday from 5 am to 7pm, Saturday 8 am to 4 pm and will be closed on Sunday… In Phase II they still have many of the same restrictions and policies that were put in place for Phase I but more programs and activities will be opening up on June 1 or June 8 such as the aquatic center, private swim lessons as scheduled, personal training, wellness classes and others including T-Ball practice at Collyar Park on June 1… Now to see their press release concerning the Phase II portion of their reopening along with the Phase I restrictions and guidelines, click here If you have any further questions call the YMCA at 984-2626

Rhythm on the Rails… The City of Clinton’s first Rhythm on the Rails event of this season originally scheduled for May 15-16 has fallen victim to the COVID-19 pandemic and has been rescheduled for June 19-20… In addition to the usual entertainment, vendors and rides it will also include Smokein’ on the Rails a BBQ cooking contest….
