Sports Report for Friaday, 6-5-2020

Local Notes:

  • Quiana Suber Video Interview… Yesterday I mentioned that I had done a short video interview with Quiana Suber after she signed her letter of intent to continue her education and track career at Converse College on Wednesday… I had some trouble with the editing of the interview and did not have it ready to insert the link into yesterday’s sports report but I did get it straightened out and it is now ready for you to view… Click here if you would like to see it… Again congratulations to Quiana!

Laurens Academy:

  • Crusaders have Three Days of Conditioning in the Book… Yesterday I was able to stop by Laurens Academy where the Crusader varsity football team wrapped up its third day of conditioning getting ready for the upcoming season… Coach Kirk told me they had as many as 16 out this week which is a slight increase form past numbers… They were definitely working up a sweating and practicing social distancing the whole time they were there… I did a short interview with Coach Kirk as they wrapped up practice and if you would like to hear it click hereNow I also took a few photos while I was there and if you would like to see them click here.

College Sports:

  • Furman Baseball Still Out… As you may recall I told you earlier that on May 18 Furman University announced it had decided to do away with baseball and men’s lacrosse in part because of the financial implications of the COVID-19 pandemic… Last month a group of Furman alumni formed the FU baseball Alumni Association with the goal of raising enough money to allow Furman to keep baseball… Bowling Green University was another school that was dropping baseball for the same reason and an alumni group there was able to raise enough money to get the university to change its mind… The Furman group met with President Elizabeth Davis hoping to get the same results… Well the Greenville News is now reporting on their website that the group has gotten a reply from President Davis and the answer is still the same, it’s still out no matter what they do… Sad when a group of offers to help and the university turns them down. If it was a Title IX issue they were even to look at ways to support the female athletes… Oh well… For more on this click here.

  • NASCAR Race Schedule for This Weekend… Now the NASCAR gang travels down I-85 this weekend as they head to the Atlanta Motor Speedway which is on this side of Atlanta in Hampton, Georgia… The Gander Truck Series is supposed to hit the track tomorrow just about 1:00 pm for a 200 mile race and then the Xfinity Series will race very soon after 4:30 tomorrow also…The Cup Series will do a 500 mile race on Sunday starting just after 3:00 pm… I do believe the truck race can be seen on FX1 both of the other races can be seen on Fox.
  • NASCAR TV Schedule for the Week… To see the NASCAR broadcast schedule for this week click here.
