Undercover Drug Arrest

Laurens County Sheriff’s Office yesterday arrested a man who’s accused of an undercover drug sale attempt over two years ago. 44-year-old James Matthew Cheeks of Spring Street, Gray Court is charged with 2nd offense, Possession of a Schedule IV Controlled Substance with Intent to Distribute. Cheeks is accused of promoting the distribution of .5 mg Alprazolam to a confidential informant who was working in an undercover capacity of the Laurens County Sheriff’s Office on May 1st of 2018. A warrant with that charge states that he has a prior conviction for a drug related offense.

James Cheeks was also served with two Bench Warrants. These were issued in June of 2018 calling for his arrest due to failure to appear for trial April 25th of 2018 on two counts of 1st offense Fraudulent Check charges.

Bond on the drug charge had not been set as of earlier today, but James Matthew Cheeks remains in detention awaiting appearance in court on the previous case.
