Local Notes:

CHS

  • Boys Basketball Workouts… Now in case you missed it, boys’ basketball workouts were supposed to begin yesterday at CHS… However that did not happen so they will start tomorrow… They are being held on Mondays and Wednesday from 5:30 – 6:45 pm in both gyms at CHS… Now to find out which Monday and Wednesdays Coach Romines is having workouts and what you need to bring to the workouts click here… There is also information there about what you will need to bring to the workouts.
  • CMS Football Information… Coach Ryan Caughman is planning on starting workouts for CMS football players on Tuesday, June 30… He ask that all 7th or 8th graders who are interested in playing stop by the main gym at CMS to pick an information packet in the top drawer of the white cabinet there… For more information about this or if you have any questions click here.

LDHS:

  • Fall Sports Physical Night… Student-athletes and their parents in Laurens District 55 might want to mark their calendar for this Thursday afternoon and evening because that is when the district will be offering sports physicals that are required for anyone who wants to play any sport or participate in cheerleading… The physicals will be done by local healthcare providers at LDHS in the main gym this Thursday from 4:00 to 7:30 pm… The cost is a very reasonable $25 and they will only be taking cash… Now there is a Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) form that MUST be filled out and signed by a parent prior to getting a physical… To go to the Laurens Athletic website where that PPE for is located click here… Now there is more information on the athletic website such as where to enter the campus and park, where to enter the gym as well as what you must do before entering the gym and to see that information click here… Remember all student-athletes must have a current physical on file by July 1 to continue participation in summer workouts past that date so don’t miss this convenient opportunity to get this done.
  • Information for Girls Interested in Playing Basketball at LDHS… Coach Aianna Kelly has asked me to tell any young lady listening that might be interested in playing varsity or JV basketball this coming season to be sure to go by the main office at LDHS and pick up the required forms in order to play and then get them back to here… It is imperative that if you are interested that you pick these forms up as soon as possible and get them back to her so that she can contact you about workouts/practices which will begin sometime in July… If you have any questions please contact her at her email address which is: amkelly@laurens55.org

NASCAR

  • Blaney Wins by a Whisker at Talladega… It was a wild and wooly finish at the rain delayed GEOCO 500 yesterday that saw Ryan Blaney win by just .007 seconds in front of Ricky Stenhouse Jr… There was a late caution in the race that caused the race to do to overtime and as the cars approached the finish line to take the checkered flag there was some pumping going on that caused Aric Almirola to slide across the finish line sideways to claim third… For more information on this race including a link to the complete order of finish click here to go to the NASCAR website.
  • Drivers & Crews Show Support for Bubba Wallace… Before the race got started there was a great show of support for Bubba Wallace the black driver whose crew found a noose in the his garage at Talladega on Sunday… They actually pushed his car to the front of the starting grid before the race and car owner Richard Petty was there to support him… Petty had not been to any of the races since the COVID-19 pandemic began but was there yesterday… For more on this click here.
  • This Weeks TV Schedule for NASCAR… If you are one of the true NASCAR fans who likes to watch what they have available on TV this week click here to go to the NASCAR website where their TV schedule is located.
