Sports Report for Thursday, 6-25-2020

Local Notes:

  • CMS Football Workouts Delayed… Due to continued restrictions by the SCHSL because of Covid-19 and out of an abundance of caution, Coach Caughman is delaying the start of Clinton Middle School football workouts which were supposed to begin Monday, June 30th…. Please continue to turn in the applicable paperwork so that he has everything once he sets a new start date…. We will continue to keep you updated on the situation and process as those details become known.

  • Fall Sports Physical Night for District 55… A quick reminder for student-athletes and their parents in Laurens District 55 might that this afternoon and evening because that is when the district will be offering sports physicals that are required for anyone who wants to play any sport or participate in cheerleading… The physicals will be done by local healthcare providers at LDHS in the main gym this Thursday from 4:00 to 7:30 pm… The cost is a very reasonable $25 and they will only be taking cash… Now there is a Preparticipation Physical Evaluation (PPE) form that MUST be filled out and signed by a parent prior to getting a physical… To go to the Laurens Athletic website where that PPE for is located click here… Now there is more information on the athletic website such as where to enter the campus and park, where to enter the gym as well as what you must do before entering the gym and to see that information click here… Remember all student-athletes must have a current physical on file by July 1 to continue participation in summer workouts past that date so don’t miss this convenient opportunity to get this done.

Major League Baseball

  • Play Ball – Finally… Well it looks like we may hear the words Play Ball at MLB parks around the nation somewhere around July 23 or 24… Of course you will have to hear those words on TV as at the present time there are no plans for fans in the stands… Players are anticipated to return to training camps on July 1 or very soon thereafter and those camps for the most part will be held in their home parks… The season will be 60 games long and play will be restricted to 10 games with each of their division opponents plus 20 games against opponents from the other league and same division (Example NL East teams will face AL East teams for 20 games)… The designated-hitter rule will be used in both leagues for this season (they say for health and safety reasons but I say it gives more players a chance to make money)… Now for more information which includes COVID-19 testing for players and personnel, rosters restrictions, social distancing and health guidelines (no spitting and high-fives, fist bumps, hugs, etc.) and other special rules for this shortened season click here.

  • This Weeks TV Schedule for NASCAR… If you are one of the true NASCAR fans who likes to watch what they have available on TV this week click here to go to the NASCAR website where their TV schedule is located.
