  • Friday: Mets 1 – Braves 0… The Braves opened their season up in New York last Friday taking on the Mets…. A solo homer by the Mets Yoenis Cepedis in the bottom of the 7th proved to be the only run of the game as the Mets took a 1-0 win… The Braves manage only 3 hits to the Mets 6, all 3 hits were by different Braves.
  • Saturday: Braves 5 – Mets 3 in 10 innings… The Mets and the Braves fought to a 2-2 tie at end of regulation… Then the Braves erupted for 3 runs in top of 10th and then held on to take the win…  Mets outhit the Braves 9-8 … The Braves did have 2 homeruns…One was a solo homer by left fielder Adam Duvall in the second inning and the other by designated hitter Marcell Ozuna in the ninth inning to tie the game… Dansby Swanson and William Contreras had the big hits for the Braves in the tenth inning
  • Sunday: Braves 14 – Mets 1… Yesterday the Braves completed the opening series of the season with the Mets by outhitting them 17-6 in route to a 14-1 win… Dansby Swanson led the Braves getting 3 hits (one of them a 2-run homer) and driving in 5 runs… The Braves played long-ball yesterday as not only Swanson had a homer but also Marcell Ozuna. Austin Riley and Ozzie Albies all had round-trippers… Braves head to Tampa for a pair of games tonight and tomorrow night.


 NASCAR… The NASCAR series were all at the Kansas Speedway this past weekend and if you recall I told you Friday that the Cup Series ran last Thursday night and that Denny Hamlin picked up his 5th win of the season last Thursday night… Click here if you want to know more about that race… Now let’s check on the other series races at Kansas.

  • Brandon Jones Wins Xfinity Race… It took two overtime restarts to get the Xfinity Series race in the books on Saturday but when the checkered flag finally waved it waved first over Brandon Jones … It looked like Austin Cindric was going to get the win as he held the lead on the restart and Jones was 7th on the restart but Jones took advantage of the open inside lane on the last lap and passed Cindric for the win… For more on this race click here.
  • Gander Truck Series… The Gander Truck Series held two races out at Kansas… In the first race on Friday, Austin Hill took the lead on lap 96 and held it all the way to the end of the race on lap 134… His lead was almost 3 seconds ahead of second place finisher Brett Moffitt… For more on this race click here…. Now the truck drivers turned right back around and raced again on Saturday… In that race Matt Crafton took the win finishing just .324 seconds head of Christian Eckes… For more on this race click here.

  • Information for Girls Interested in Playing Basketball at LDHS… Coach Aianna Kelly has asked me to tell any young lady listening that might be interested in playing varsity or JV basketball this coming season to be sure to go by the main office at LDHS and pick up the required forms in order to play and then get them back to here… It is imperative that if you are interested that you pick these forms up as soon as possible and get them back to her so that she can contact you about workouts/practices which will begin sometime in July… If you have any questions please contact her at her email address which is:


  • Youth Tackle Football & Cheerleading… Registration is now open for youth tackle football and cheerleading through the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department… The registration fee is $60 for both and that includes uniform but does NOT helmet and shoulder pads for football… They can be rented from the Parks and Recreation Department… The age group for both football and cheerleading is ages 7-12… Those who will turn 12 on September 1st or later are eligible to play… You can register daily at The Ridge during normal business hours… For more information call 681-7275 or email them at:….   • Youth Soccer at Clinton Family YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA… Age groupings will be 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12… The cost is $60 for Y members and $75 for non-members with financial assistance for those who need it… All players will receive an open mesh full soccer uniform including a jersey, shorts and soccer socks… Soccer players are required to provide Soccer Shin Guards… For more information about this click here to go to a press release from the Y or call them at 833-1555… The deadline to register is August 31st!
