CHS Red Devils:

  • Booster Club Applications Available… There is a posting now on the CHS Athletic website concerning the CHS Booster Club… In these days of COVID-19 and the possibility of reduced revenues to high school and middle school athletics caused by the pandemic, school athletic budgets will be most likely strained and the help and support of booster clubs will become even more important… To that end the CHS Booster Club invites you to join them this season… If you click here it will carry you to the CHS Athletic website where there is another link to the booster club application… Please think about helping them to make “Go Big Red” a reality.

Pro Sports:

Braves… The Braves started a road trip last Friday night and the first stop was in the city of brotherly love as they traveled to Philadelphia to take on the Phillies… For more information on the game(s) below, click on the score at the beginning.

  • Saturday: Phillies 5 – Braves 0… The regularly scheduled game on Friday was rained out so on Saturday the Braves finally started the series on a less than stellar note as they gave up 4 runs in the fourth inning and then went on to lose 5-0 to the Phillies… In that inning there were two homeruns by the Phillies a solo shot by J.T. Realmuto and a 3-run homer by Jay Bruce proved to be the deciding blows… The Braves manages only 4 hits to the Phillies 8 in the game.
  • Sunday #1: Braves 5 – Phillies 2… Yesterday the two teams got together for a pair of 7 inning games (a new rule put in to help make up postponements in the Corona virus era) and in the first game the Braves rebounded from the loss the day before taking a 5-2 win outhitting the Phillies 5-2… It was the Braves turn to score a bunch of runs in one inning as they put all 5 of their runs on the board in the 5th inning…  In that big fifth inning Ronald Acuna Jr. had a 2 run homer and Adam Duvall had a double that drove in the other 3 runs… Freddie Freeman went 3-4 in the game.
  • Sunday #2: Braves 8 – Phillies 0… In the second game yesterday, the Braves bats continued to be hot as they pounded out 14 hits to the Phillies 4 in route to an 8-0 win… Ronald Acuna Jr. had a smoking hot bat as he went 4-4 with two of his 4 hits being homers… Freddie Freeman again went 3-4 in the game with a homer… The two teams will finish their 4-game series tonight with first pitch scheduled for 6:05 pm.

NASCAR… NASCAR held two of it’s raced this past weekend up at the Michigan International Speedway… Checking the results by series you find:

  • Gander Truck Series… The Gander truck series ran its race in Michigan on Friday and in that race Zane Smith made a last-lap pass in double overtime to pick up his first Gander Truck Series win… For more information on this race including the order of finish click here.
  • Xfinity Series… Now the Xfinity drivers were in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on Saturday as they ran on the Road America road course… Austin Cindric picked up his fourth win in the last 5 races holding off A.J.   • Cup Series… The Cup Series drivers actually raced twice up at Michigan this weekend once on Saturday and then again yesterday… As luck (or skill) would have it the winner of both races was Kevin Harvick… On Saturday he led 92 of the 161 laps in eh race but 5 restarts in the last 30 laps caused him to have to close it out in overtime… Brad Keselowski finished second… For more information on this race click hereYesterday’s victory was Harvick’s his 55th of his career and series-leading 6 of the season… Yesterday’s second place finisher was Denny Hamlin… For more information on this race click here.

  • Youth Soccer at Clinton Family YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Clinton Family YMCA… Age groupings will be 3-5, 6-8 and 9-12… The cost is $60 for Y members and $75 for non-members with financial assistance for those who need it… All players will receive an open mesh full soccer uniform including a jersey, shorts and soccer socks… Soccer players are required to provide Soccer Shin Guards… For more information about this click here to go to a press release from the Y or call them at 833-1555… The deadline to register is August 31st!


  • Youth Soccer at Laurens Family YMCA… Registration is now open for youth soccer at the Laurens Family YMCA…Youth soccer at the Laurens Y will be for ages 3-15 in age appropriate groupings… The cost is $50 for Y members and $60 for non-members… If you want more information about youth soccer at the Laurens YMCA contact Haley Garrison at 984-2626 or email her at:… The season will start on Sept 14th and the deadline to register is September 5th.
