Deputies Make Arrest in Fatal Friday Night Shooting

The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office made an arrest yesterday in connection with a fatal shooting near Fountain Inn last Friday. Investigator Haupfear arrested 38-year-old Jason Dale Wentz of Goldsmith Road, Fountain Inn and he has been charged with Murder and Possession of a Weapon During a Violent Crime. Mr. Wentz is accused of causing the death of 33-year-old Wilton Latravous Webb of Garth Road, Fountain Inn. A Sheriff’s statement indicates that last Friday night at approximately 9:45 pm deputies responded to the 100 block of Garth Road, Fountain Inn on report of someone having a gunshot wound. Upon arrival, deputies discovered Mr. Webb deceased at the residence.

A murder warrant states that Jason Dale Wentz shot Wilton Webb in the chest with a shotgun at a Garth Road address.

Jason Dale Wentz remained in Laurens County’s Johnson Detention Center this morning, awaiting a bond hearing on the Murder and Firearm charges.

Laurens County Chief Deputy Coroner Patti Canupp yesterday stated that an autopsy this weekend into last Friday’s death has confirmed that 33-year-old Wilton Webb of Garth Road, Fountain Inn died of gunshot wound to the chest.
