TD Club News

  • McGowan TD Club Player of the Week… Yesterday it was announced that Laurens District 55 High School’s Jayden McGowan has been named its Player of the Week for his performance in last Friday night’s 24-16 win over Eastside by the Raiders… Jayden is a junior defensive back/wide receiver for the Raiders playing both ways for the Raiders Friday night against Eastside…  Offensively, in scoring two touchdowns on the night for the Raiders, McGowan ran for 84 yards, including an 80 yard run in the fourth quarter… Jayden also had two receptions for 27 yards, in which also included his first TD of the night, a 26 yard pass reception that put the Raiders ahead just after halftime… It was a lead that the Raiders never relinquished. McGowan also ran a kickoff return for 25 yards…Defensively, McGowan played outstanding from his cornerback position, recording 4 tackles and several pass break ups… Jayden McGowan’s ability to play both offense and defense for the Raiders is a key component to the Raiders game plan every Friday night…. Congratulations to Jayden!
  • TD Club Video… If you were not able to attend last week’s Laurens County Touchdown Club the video of that meeting is now available… If you click here it will carry you to YouTube where the video is posted with a couple of pictures at its conclusion…. In addition to the local high school coaches the club also honored Hezekiah Kinard and Jykorie Gary of Clinton High School as their last two Players of the Week… The guest speaker was Gary Patterson an ACC football official… He had some very interesting comments and stories.

Laurens vs. Clinton Game in Jeopardy

  • Yesterday during a routine weekly conversation I have with Clinton’s Coach Corey Fountain I confirmed that unless they are having an open date with no game this Friday unless something drastic changes… He also confirmed that the game on Friday, Oct. 23rd is presently scheduled to be at home with Woodruff (provided everyone dodges the COVID-19 virus)… When I questioned him about the makeup date for the Union County game postponed from the start of the season due to Union having a COVID-19 problem, he told me that he had just been informed on Monday that the game must be made up at the earliest possible date even if it meant doing it on a date where there’s a non-region game already scheduled… Well for the Red Devils that would be Friday, Oct 30th when they are scheduled to host the Raiders…. After talking with him and officials at LDHS I was reminded that if both teams don’t make the playoffs that there is the opportunity to reschedule that game as the eighth – bonus game that the SCHSL is allowing for teams that don’t make the playoffs… One little problem there, if either team makes the playoffs then the game will go the way of the Carolina –Clemson game this year… I know for a fact that even with two region losses already this season, the Raiders still have a chance to finish in a tie for second place in the region an make it to the playoffs this season if a certain scenario of other team wins and losses as well as the Raiders beating Greer one week from this Friday night should occur… Just a possibility I thought I’d let you know about… I hate to see the game canceled this year but by the same token I don’t want to wish the Raiders bad luck and not make the playoffs… Only time will tell and we shall see.
