Local Notes:

Clinton HS:

  • JV Teams at Home Tonight… The Red Devil JV basketball teams are scheduled to be at home tonight as they host the Chapman Panthers starting with the girls’ game at 6:00 pm…. You need to purchase your tickets online for these games and for more information about that see the Ticket Information section below.

  • Men’s Basketball… The Blue Hose are 3-3 overall on the season and 1-1 in Big South play… Their last game was on December 31st when they defeated Radford 65-63… Since then they have had to postpone 4 games due to COVID 19 issues… They are schedule to return to action tonight as they travel up to Buies Creek, NC to take on the Campbell Camels tonight and tomorrow night starting at 7:00 pm….   • Women’s Basketball… The Lady Blue Hose basketball team has been able to get in a few more games than the men as their record now stands at 6-4 overall and 5-3 in Big South play… Their last game was this past Sunday where they completed a two-game sweep of USC Upstate in Spartanburg with a 66-53 win… They will return to action tomorrow night as thy host the Campbell Camels in the first game of a two-game series starting at 6:00 pm with Saturday’s game starting at 4:00 pm… The games can be seen on ESPN+… Yesterday Coach Alaura Sharp announced that she has added Kiana “Lucky” Rudd to her staff as director of basketball operations… She is a May 2020 graduate of West Virginia having plated her last two years of basketball there after playing at NC State for two years… For more information on her click here.
  • Wrestling… The PC wrestling team was scheduled to hit the mats this past weekend up in Lexington, Virginia taking on VMI and Campbell but that COVID 19 virus caused them to have to drop out of those matches… If all goes well, their first matches will be next weekend on Sunday, Jan. 24th when they travel to Louisville, Kentucky for matches against the host Bellarmine and with The Citadel… As you may or may not recall, former Raider wrestler Will Pontoon is a member of the Blue Hoes wrestling team.
  • Football… Now PC is planning on playing football this spring starting on March 6th when they travel to Boiling Springs, NC to take on Gardner-Webb in a 1:00 pm contest… As you may recall the Blue Hose football team will be part of the Pioneer League this season (not the Big South)… Gardner-Webb will be the first game in a seven-game schedule as the schedule currently stands… At this time the schedule shows the Blue Hose playing at home for three of those 7 seven games… The home opener is scheduled to be on March 13th against San Diego… If you would like to see the football schedule for this season as it now stands but is subject to change, click here.

Ticket Information

Clinton HS

  • Home Games… Clinton HS has issued guidelines on how many people will be allowed into the main gym for contest (386) and other items pertaining to COVID 19 issues… To see those and more information about this click hereA couple of important things to point out are that no tickets will be sold at the door, they must be bought online… This applies to JV and varsity games and if you click on the link I provided above you will find where to purchase the tickets online… Also there are special codes to apply if you are the parent of a participating athlete to help ensure you get a ticket but you must purchase by 4:00 pm the day of the game to be sure you get a ticket(s)… There are several other things you need to know so again click here to go the CHS athletic website where all of this is explained… To go directly to the page where you purchase tickets click here.

This and That

  • 2021 Raider Baseball Tryouts… Coach Tori Patterson has now set the dates for Raider baseball tryouts and those dates are Monday and Tuesday February 1st and 2nd… Those wanting to tryout for the team will be expected to be there both days and you must have a current physical before you can participate… C-Team:  Is open to 7th and 8th graders and you need to be at Ed Prescott Field between 4:00-5:45 pm on those dates… JV and Varsity: Is open to 9th – 12th graders and you need to be at Ed Prescott Field between 5:45-7:30 pm… If there are any questions, please email Head Coach Tori Patterson at kjpatterson@laurens55.org.
  • Pick Your Promo for January at the Laurens YMCA… The Laurens Family YMCA which is part of the Lakelands YMCA group is having a Pick You Promo for the month of January… For January only you can join the Y with no joiner’s fee, no monthly fee and no contract or you can join the Y and get half off the monthly fee for January, February and March but you must sign up during January… If you have questions or want more details on this call the Y at 984-2626… If you have been thinking about joining the YMCA this is a great opportunity to do so don’t let it pass you by.
  • Tae Kwon Do Returns to Laurens YMCA… Tae Kwon Do classes are returning to the Laurens Family YMCA starting on October 5, 2020… These classes are for youth 7-15 years old and are $25 per month… Classes will be held each Monday from 6:00 pm – 7:00 pm… If you have more questions call the Y at 984-2626
