Sports Report for Friday, 2-5-2021

Local Notes:

Clinton HS… The Red Devil JV basketball teams hosted the Vikings of Emerald HS last night.

  • Girls: Clinton 15 – Emerald 5… In girls action last night the Red Devils took a 15-5 win over the Vikings in what some would call a “sloppy” game… The two teams combined for over 50 turnovers but on the bright side (beside the final score) the Red Devils had almost a 2-1 edge in rebounding in the game… Clinton led 3-2 at the end of the first quarter and 8-3 at the half… The Red Devils held the Vikings scoreless in the third quarter as they went on the take the win… Fantasia Walker led the Red Devils in scoring with 4 points… Hanna Gary, Indya Shelton, Patience Adams and Marcey Campbell all finished with 2 points each… Mia Barr, Zakalia Redd and Jordan Hill rounded out the Red Devil scoring with 1 point each.
  • Boys: Emerald 40 – Clinton 35… Just like the varsity boys’ team, the JV boys have played very well at times and not so well at others in the course of many of their games… That was the case last night as the Vikings took a 40-35 win over the Red Devils… The Red Devils offense was cold in the first the first half as it managed just 9 points while the Vikings put 16 points on the board… The third quarter was a different story as the Red Devils came out of the locker room hotter and scored 15 points while holding the Vikings to just 7 to take a 24-23 lead into the fourth quarter… In that fourth quarter the Red Devils cooled back off somewhat as they managed just 11 points while the Vikings put up 17 to take the 40-35 win… Free throw shooting was a problem for the Red Devils as they went 0 for 7 in the final 6 minutes while the Vikings hit 7 of 14 in the same time period… On the game, the Vikings were 11 of 21 while the Red Devils were 1 of 12… T. Richardson was the only Red Devil scoring in double-digits as he finished with 10 points…. Zay Johnson finished with 9 points, Kevidrick Richardson 8, Kadon Crawford 4 and both Ke’Laja Byrd and Jaden Hill finished with 2 points each.
  • Varsity on the Road Tonight… The Red Devil varsity basketball teams are scheduled to be on the road tonight as they travel down to Greenwood to take on the Emerald Vikings… The girls’ game is scheduled to start at 6:00 pm and the boys soon after it finishes… If you are planning on going you need to buy you tickets online and for a link to do that click here.

Laurens HS:

  • Wrestling: Dorman 58 – Laurens 24… well I need to do some catching up with the Raider wrestling team as they were in action back on Wednesday and I got the results after I finished yesterday’s sport report… The Raiders traveled up to Dorman to take on the traditionally strong Cavaliers and they appear to be strong again this year as they took a 58-24 win over the Raiders… Robert Lawson and Pedro Juan were the only Raiders who were able to defeat their opponents on the mats… Now a couple of other Raiders did pick up wins by forfeits and if you would like to see who they were plus more complete details on this match, click here.
  • Basketball Tonight… Two of the Laurens Raider teams will be taking on the Eastside Eagles tonight…. The varsity boys will board the bus and travel to Eastside to take on the Eagles with tipoff set for 6:00 pm… The varsity girls will not play due to the Lady Eagles having COVID issues… Meanwhile back at LDHS, the JV boys will host the Eagles staring at 5:30… The girls will not play and once again the reason is COVID issues with Eagles…. If you plan on going up to eastside to cheer on the Raiders you need to purchase your tickets ahead of time online and to do that click here.

Laurens Academy:

  • Crusaders on the Road… The schedule I have shows the Laurens Academy Crusader basketball teams on the road tonight traveling down to Newberry Academy to take on the Eagles starting with girls’ action at 5:30… The last time these two teams got together the Crusaders were shorthanded due to medical issues… Follow the Crusaders down as they try to pluck the Eagles for some payback.
