Crystal Meth Warrant Follows Traffic Charge

A quantity of methamphetamine indicating intent to distribute was alleged following a Laurens County Sheriff’s Office arrest Wednesday night. 48-year-old Dereck Steven Schwandt of Creekwood Drive, Fountain Inn was initially arrested when Deputy Austin Croker issued a ticket charging Schwandt with Driving under Suspension of his license on Park Road and Creekwood Drive at around 10:00 Wednesday night.

Deputies served a warrant yesterday also charging Distribution of Methamphetamine. An investigation of Deputy Croker is cited as indicating that on February 17th the subject had in his possession several clear plastic zip-lock baggies containing a crystal-like substance that field tested positive as methamphetamine. This reportedly had a combined weight of 3 grams.

Dereck Schwandt remained in the Johnson Detention Center this morning with cash or surety bonds of $25,000 on the Meth Distribution warrant and $1,270 on the Driving under Suspension ticket.
