Local Notes:

Clinton HS:

  • Boys Cross Country Finishes 4th at Hurricane Invitational… Last Saturday the Red Devil Cross Country teams traveled to Wren HS to take part in the Hurricane Invitational… In the boys’ portion of the meet, the Red Devils finished 4th out of 12 teams participating… The top runner for the Red Devils was Charlie Cody who finished 15th overall with a time of 18:09… In the JV portion of the meet the Red Devils finished third… If you click here it will take you to a posting on the CHS athletic website where you can not only see how the other Red Devil runners did but also the team scores for the other teams participating.
  • Girls Finish 6th at Hurricane Invitational… In the girls portion of the meet, the Red Devils finished 6th out of 9 teams participating…Elizabeth Reid had the best finish for the Red Devils as she ran the course in 22:09 which means she came in 7th overall… Again if you click here it will carry you to the CHS athletic website where you can not only see how the other Red Devil runners did but also the team scores for the other teams participating.

Laurens HS:

  • Ticket Information for North Augusta Game … The varsity is scheduled to travel to North Augusta Friday night for a 7:30 contest with the Yellow Jackets… North Augusta has let us know that there will be NO TICKET SOLD AT THE GATE and you must purchase your tickets ahead of time online… To go to the webpage where North Augusta sells their tickets click here… Further they want Raider fans to know  Please make sure to note that visitors should enter on the visitor side of the stadium closest to the school and NOT the home gate on Knobcone Ave. No fans are allowed on the field before, during, or after the game.

Laurens Academy:

  • Cal Robertson Selected as TD Club Player of the Week… Yesterday it was announced the Laurens Academy senior linebacker and wide receiver was chosen as the Laurens County Touchdown Player of the Week for his performance in the Crusaders loss to Cathedral Academy… Cal plays on offense, defense and special teams for the Crusaders… He is also a member of the All-County team for last season… Head Coach Todd Kirk stated, “Cal was all over the field defensively and his versatility on offense gave us a lot of options.”…Offensively, Robertson had ten receptions for 240 yards and one Touchdown… Defensively, Robertson was strong as well, just as he is every game for the Crusaders… Cal was credited for 7 tackles in the game… Robertson was relentless in the contest pressuring the Cathedral Academy quarterback and applying constant pressure… The Laurens County Touchdown Club will honor Cal Robertson this Thursday at the Touchdown Club meeting… The meeting will be at noon at The Ridge in Laurens.

Broadcast Schedule: Below is a list of dates, times and teams that we plan on broadcasting live on Real Radio WLBG… And as usual you can hear it live on 860AM, 104.1 FM and the internet at www.wlbg.com… All of the following are weather and COVID dependent and are varsity games… If it is a varsity football game, coverage will begin about 6:05 pm with the Friday Night Insiders program.

College Notes:

  • FBS AP Poll… The latest AP Poll for the FBS division of college football had a little bit of shakeup in the top 10… Alabama and Georgia are still # 1 and # 2 respectively but Oregon and Oklahoma swapped spots as Oregon moved up a spot to #3 while Oklahoma dropped a spot to #4… Iowa continues to hold down #5… Spots 6-10 are held by Penn State (up from #10), Texas A&M (up from #7), Cincinnati, Clemson (down from #6) and Ohio State (down from #9)… Coastal Carolina also dropped a spot from #16 to #17… To see the entire AP top 25 click here.
  • FCS Coaches Poll… The top two teams in the FCS Coaches Poll continue to be Sam Houston and James Madison… There are no South Carolina teams in the top 25 as Furman which was ranked #24 last week dropped out of the poll after its 45-7 loss to NC State last Saturday… To see the entire Coaches Poll click here.

Major League Baseball

  • Braves 11 – D-backs 4… In the first game of their 4 game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks out in Phoenix last night, the D-backs had a 3-2 lead going into the 5th inning when the Braves struck for 7 run and then went on to take an 11-4 win… In the big 5th inning the Braves scored most of their runs playing small ball as they did hit around in the inning… Adam Duval (37) did hit a 2-run homer in the inning and Freddie Freeman had two run-scoring hits in the inning… The Braves Eddie Rosario became just the second Brave to hit for the cycle this season as he hit a double in the second, a triple in the fifth, a homer in the seventh and single in the ninth.
  • Greenville Drive… The Greenville Drive finished out their season this past weekend up in Maryland taking on the Aberdeen Ironbirds… On Friday they lost to the Ironbirds by a score of 1-0, they then rebounded on Saturday and Sunday taking wins by scores of 3-2 and 4-1… The two wins mean that the Drive won the six-game series 4-2… On the season the Drive finished with a 67-53 record.

  • Single Game Football Tickets on Sale at CHS… Information has been released concerning the purchase of individual contest tickets for home contest at Clinton HS and Clinton MS… The preferred method of sale for all athletic contests at both schools will still be online but a few tickets for varsity football will be offered for sale at 4 local businesses… There will also be a very few tickets for sale at the ticket booth the day of the contest… For more information on this I encourage you to click here to go to the CHS Athletic website where there is a posting that gives you much more information about this including price, the businesses where the varsity football tickets can be purchased,  procedure to purchase online tickets and much more… Please check it out… Go Big Red!
