Clinton HS

  • Cross Country… The Red Devil Cross Country team participated in the Lakelands Classic last Saturday down in Greenwood…. There were a variety of team from all SCHSL classifications and some teams were not from the upstate of South Carolina… Catching up on how they did:
    • Boys Finish 7thThe boys team finished 7th out of 27 teams participating in the meet…The Red Devils were led by William Reed who had a time of 16:42.4 seconds which allowed him to finish 10th overall in the meet… He was followed by Charlie Cody who finished with a time of 17:15.1 which means he finished 20th overall… To see the team scores and how the other Red Devil Runners did, click here.Some of the Red Devils had season and / or personal best times in the meet.
    • Girls Finish 18thThe girls’ portion of the meet had 22 teams participating and the Lady Red Devils finished 18th among some tough competition… The Red Devils were led by Skylar Collins who finished with a time of 25:00.2 which placed her 86th overall… Click here to see the team scores and how the other Lady Red Devil runners did in the meet… Again, some of the Red Devils had season and / or personal best times in the meet.

 

  • Kadon Crawford TD Club Player of the Week… Yesterday it was announced that Clinton’s Kadon Crawford has been selected as the Laurens County Touchdown Club’s Player of the week for is performance in the Red Devils 41-30 loss to South Aiken last Friday night… He is a senior outside linebacker, tight end/wide receiver and special teams player… Last Friday he had 10.5 total tackles on defense all the while recording nine 1st hits and six total tackles as well. .. Crawford had three tackles for loss; one caused fumble and one fumble recovery… Head Coach Corey Fountain states; “Kadon is a Swiss Army Knife for the Clinton Red Devils…  He never comes off the field as he plays offense, defense and special teams… He is a vocal leader as well and leads by example… He is simply a great representative of Red Devil Football.”… Kadon will be honored at the Club’s next meeting on October 5th where the featured speaker will be Coach Mike Ayers, former head football coach at Wofford College.

Laurens HS

  • Cross Country… The Raider boys cross country team also participated in the Lakelands Classic this past Saturday… They finished 14th out of 27 teams participating… The team was led by Cody Patterson who finished 28th overall with a time of 17:36.3… If you would like to see how the other Raiders did, click here and then when you get there look to the right and filter for just the Laurens runners…. The girls did not have enough runners participate to qualify as a team but Mary Ellis Power participated and finished with a time of 24:24.8 and Rowan Rickert also participated and finished with a time of 32:57.90 
  • Homecoming / Homecoming Parade… A reminder that this Friday night the Raiders will be hosting Greer for Homecoming… The Annual Homecoming Parade was held Monday in downtown Laurens… I took a few photos there and if you would like to see a slideshow of the photos I took, click here… Enjoy!

 Atlanta Braves

  • Braves 7 – Cubs 6… The  Braves started a 3-game series with the Cubs in Atlanta last night and going into the bottom of the 6th inning they trailed 6-0… That is when they started a rally that saw them come all the way back and take a 7-6 win…. They did it using some clutch hitting and a little luck… Kevin Pillar (9) homered in eh 6th inning and Ronald Acuna Jr hit a two-run homer in the 7th inning to give him 41 homers on the season… The luck part came in the 8th inning when the Cubs let a routine fly ball drop to the ground or an error that allowed what proved to be the winning runs to score.

NASCAR

William Byron Wins at Texas Motor SpeedwayWilliam Byron took the lead on a restart with 6 laps to go Sunday at the Texas Motor Speedway and then held on for the victory holding off Ross Chastain who finished second…Click here for more information on the race.

Playoff StandingsWilliam Byron continues to lead in the Chase for the Cup but Denny Hamlin has moved up to second replacing Martin Truex Jr. who was second place last week but drops to #5 this week… To see the complete standings for the playoffs, click here.

 NASCAR on TV This Week… The Cup Series Race will take place at the Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday at 2:00 pm…  There will be TV viewing this week of past races, practices, qualifying and other items on TV… To see the TV schedule, click here.

  • Laurens County TD Next Meeting October 5th… The Laurens County Touchdown Club kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday, August 24th… The club meets bi-weekly at The Ridge (City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters) at noon for a lunch… Each week the high school coaches will talk about their recent games and upcoming opponents… After the first meeting, there will also be quest speakers… To see a list of who those speakers are scheduled to be for each meeting click here… The TD Club will close out its season on Wednesday, December 6th with its Post Season Awards Banquet… For more information on how to join the club or become a sponsor click here… To go to another part of our website where links to videos of this seasons past meetings, click here… See you there!
