Clinton HS… The Red Devil varsity basketball teams traveled down to Prosperity yesterday to take on the Mid-Carolina Rebels.
- Girls: Clinton 48 – Mid-Carolina 26… In varsity girls’ action, the Red Devils outscored the Rebels in each quarter and actually held the Rebels scoreless in the fourth quarter as they cruised to a 48-26 win… The Rebels Bra Boyd led all scorers with 13 points while the Red Devils were led by Bryanna Belton who finished with 12 points… Ry’Daijia Mars, Mckenzie Clark and Zakalia Redd each scored 8 points for the Red Devils… Symiah Floyd finished with 7 points, Mylayja Thompson 2, Kemaria Shelton and Nah’shia Wright 1… Coach Gardner said afterwards “Great team win tonight… Contributions from the whole team and great to get first road win.”… The Red Devils are now 3-0 on the young season.
- Boys: Clinton 53 – Mid-Carolina 33… The Red Devil boys completed the sweep of the Rebels by taking a 53-33 win over the Rebels to give Coach Dontavious Glenn his fist win at the helm of the Red Devils this year… The Rebels actually led 9-8 after 8 minutes of play but the Red Devils outscored them 19-4 in the 2nd quarter and then cruised on to the win… The Red Devils had only 1 player scoring in double-digits and that was Tushawan Richardson who scored a game-high 20 points… Others scoring for the Red Devils included Keleja Bryd with 6 points, Kadon Crawford 6, KJ Vance 5, Devin Swindler 5, MJ Henderson 4, Nyterian Smith 4, and Jalin Massey 3…. The Red Devils are now 1-0 on the season.
Laurens HS… The Raider varsity teams traveled to Hillcrest last night to take on the Rams and there were two very close games…
- Girls: Hillcrest 39 – Laurens 37… The Raiders started out fast and led 22-13 at half and 28-20 going into fourth quarter… That is where the Raider went cold and Rams started a comeback that saw the Rams take the lead with about 15 seconds left on a 3-pointer… The Raiders had a couple of chances to tie of take the lead but just could not get the clutch shot at the end as the Rams took a come-from-behind 39-37 win… Faith Jackson scored 14 points to lead the Raiders and Zoe Dial was also in double-digits with 11points… Destiny Anderson and Keyoric Yeargin both scored 4 points for the Raiders while Ty Jones finished with 3 points and Taliyah Bullard with 1… The Raiders are now 1-3 on the young season.
- Boys: Hillcrest 52 – Laurens 49… The Raider boys’ basketball team also lost a tough one as they fell to the Rams 52-49 almost completing a comeback… The Raiders started slow and trailed 31-19 at half but started comeback in 2nd half as they only trailed 46-43 starting the 4th quarter… They actually were able tie the game 48-48 with about 2 minutes left but just could not get over the hump… The Raiders were led in scoring TyJ Jones & Martinez Shaw who both finished with 11 points… Others scoring for the Raiders included Zakarion Simpson who finished with 9 points, Jaylen Simpson 8, Tylan Fowler 6 and Nick Danciu 4… The Raiders are 1-3 on the season.
Laurens Academy… The Crusaders hosted the Spartanburg Christian Academy Warriors yesterday in a full slate of basketball games.
- Girls: Crusaders 46 – Warriors 35… The Lady Crusaders got off to a slow start as they trailed 10-9 after the first quarter but rebounded in the second outscoring the Warriors 18-5 to take a 27-15 lead into the locker room at the half and then cruised on to take a 46-35 win… Olivia Huck led the Crusaders in scoring with a game-high 21 points… Rylee Ballard finished with 8 points, Hanna Erwin 7, Madisyn Graham 6, and Sadie Bruyere 4…. The Crusaders are now 2-1 on the season.
- Boys: Crusaders 54 – Warriors 28… The news is also good for Crusader fans where the varsity boys are concerned as they 24-15 at half and 41-24 at the end of the third quarter as they went on to take a 54-28 win over the Warriors… The Crusaders had two players scoring in double–digits as Brayden Burke had 15 points and Jared Willard 12… Others scoring for the Crusaders included Hector Rubio who finished with 9 points, Garrison Vaughn 7, Garrett Murphy 6 and Buddy Baker 5… The Crusaders are now 1-2 on the season.
- MS Girls: Crusaders 54 – Warriors 9… The Lady Crusader middle school team took a 54-9 win over the Warriors to make their season record 2-0… The Crusaders had 3 players scoring in double-digits as Braylee Burke finished with 17 points, Brooklyn Senn 16 and Mackenzie Runyans 13.
- MS Boys: Warriors 48 – Crusaders 16… In middle school boys’ action, the Warriors jumped out to a 20-6 lead at the half and then went on to take a 48-16 win over the Crusaders… Micah Strait led the Crusader in scoring with 9 points.
Thornwell… The Thornwell varsity boys’ basketball team hosted Clear Dot Charter out of Columbia last night in the first game of their season and I can tell you that Clear Dot took a 75-33 win over the Saints and I will try to have more details later.

- Football Finals Moved to SC STATE… Recently it was announced that this year’s State Championship games will be played at Oliver C. Dawson Stadium on the Campus of SC State University in Orangeburg… To read the press release about this move click here… With that being said the dates and times of the five championship games have also been announced and are as follows:
- November 30: Class 2A – 7 pm: Gray Colligate vs. Oceanside
December 1: Class 1A – 2 pm: Christ Church vs. Johnsonville and Class 5A – 8 pm: Dutch Fork vs. White Knoll
December 2: Class 4A – 12 pm: Westside vs. South Florence and Class 3A – 7 pm: Daniel vs. Camden.

PC Football
- PC Finishes 4-7 on the Season… The Blue Hose football team ended its season on Nov. 18th with a 31-27 win over Morehead State at Bailey Memorial Stadium… The win gives the Blue Hose a final season record of 4-7 and 2-6 in conference play… That is an improvement over the 1-10 record posted the year before by second year Head Coach Steve Englehart and his squad… If you would like to see this season’s schedule and results, click here.

- 2023 Laurens YMCA Reindeer Run… The 24th annual Laurens YMCA Reindeer run 5k and Fun Run will be held Saturday, Dec. 9th… The cost to register for the 5K is $30 until Nov 19th and $35 after that date…That is also the date you must register by to be guaranteed to get a race shirt… The Fun Run (ages 1-12) cost is $5 and again you must pay for a race shirt separately by Nov.19th in the Fun Run… All proceeds go to support the Youth Scholarship Program and prizes will be awarded for the top two finishers male and female… Discounts for teams are also being offered… For more information call the Y at 984-2626… If you click here it will take you to the YMCA website where there is more information on the Reindeer Run and links to online registration.
- Laurens County TD Next Meeting December 13th… The Laurens County Touchdown Club kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday, November 16th… The club meets bi-weekly at The Ridge (City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters) at noon for a lunch… Each week the high school coaches will talk about their recent games and upcoming opponents… After the first meeting, there will also be quest speakers… To see a list of who those speakers are scheduled to be for each meeting click here… The TD Club will close out its season on Wednesday, December 13th with its Post Season Awards Banquet… For more information on how to join the club or become a sponsor click here… To go to another part of our website where links to videos of this seasons past meetings, click here… See you there!
