  • CHS Athletic Booster Club… It’s not too early to think about joining the CHS Athletic Booster Club for next season… To learn more about the booster club and its benefits, click here… That will carry you to a form where more information is available and you can also print out and use that form to join the booster club… They really do help all the sports put the “Go” in Go Big Red!

Laurens HS   

  • Raider Youth Football Camp… Last week the Raider football coaches and senior Raider players hosted a youth football camp at KC Hanna Stadium… I went up there on Wednesday and talked with Coach Porter about the camp and took a few photos… Click here to go to a short video with the conversation I had with him followed by a few photos taken of some of the participants having a lot of fun.

  • 2024-25 College Football Dates Announced… On June 19th the NCAA announced the dates, times and TV viewing for the expanded college football playoffs this upcoming season… If you have forgotten how they plan to choose the 12 teams that will be in the expanded playoffs click here… The first round of the playoffs will start on Friday, December 20, 2024 and the National Champion will be crowned on January 20, 2025 in Atlanta… To see the entire listing of dates and what bowl games will be involved, click here.

 Atlanta Braves …The Braves hosted the Pittsburg Pirates in a three-game series over the weekend…. For more information on the game(s) below, click on the scores.

  • Friday: Braves 6 – Pirates 1On Friday the Braves scored a single run in the 2nd inning and 5 in the 3rd inning and then held the Pirates to a single run in the 9th inning as they started the three-game series with a 6-1 win over the Pirates… The Braves outhit the Pirates 10-6 and the first Braves run was scored on a solo homer by Austin Riley (9)… Ozzie Albies and Matt Olson led the Braves at the plate each getting 2 hits but Marcell Ozuna’s only hit was a double in the five-run 3rd inning that drove in 3 runs… Charlie Morton (5-4) picked up the win going 6⅓ scoreless innings giving up just 3 hits while striking out 7 and walking just 1.
  • Saturday: Braves 2 – Pirates 1 (10)… On Saturday the Braves scored the first run of the game when Jarred Kelenic (9) led things off for the Braves in the bottom of the first inning with a solo homer and they scored the last run of the game in the bottom of the 10th inning when Adam Duval singled driving in Luke Williams to give the Braves a 2-1 walk-off win over the Pirates… In between those two runs, the Pirates scored a single run in the run in the 5th inning on a sacrifice fly by Edward Olivares… Both teams had only 7 hits each and Kelenic was the only Brave with more than one hot as he had 2 with a single to go along with his homer.
  • Sunday: Pirates 4 – Braves 2… Sunday the Pirates avoided being swept by the Braves as they took a 4-2 win scoring all 4 of their runs in the 5th inning… In that inning the Pirates had a pair of 2-run homers that powered them to the win… The Braves trailed 4-1 going into the bottom of the 9th inning where they did score 1 run but could get no closer.
  • Season Schedule… The Braves will have tonight (Monday) off and return to action tomorrow when they start a 3-game series with the Giants in Atlanta… If you would like to see the Braves season schedule, click here… It should also show where the game will be televised if it is televised.
  • Standings… To see the MLB Standings click here… Once you get there you will see the standing by league (American or National) and also by division.

 Greenville Drive… The Greenville Drive finished their 6-game series with the Hickory Crawdads this weekend at Flour Field… They came into Friday’s game having won 2 of the first 3 games in the series… For more information on the game(s) below, click on the scores.

  • Friday: Drive 2 – Crawdads 0… Friday the Drive took a 2-0 win over the Crawdads scoring their only 2 runs in the 8th inning… They outhit the Crawdads 10-3 but the only one that dove in any runs was a 2 RBI double by Eduardo Lopez in the 8th inning.
  • Saturday: Crawdads 5 – Drive 4… On Saturday the Crawdads turned the tables taking a 5-4 win over the Drive… They outhit the Drive 14-6 but had to score a single run in the top of the 9th inning to get the win.
  • Sunday: Crawdads 11 – Drive 4…  after a 2-hour weather delay which caused the game to be shortened to 7 innings, the Crawdads took an 11-4 win over the Drive… The Drive led 3-0 going into top of 6th where Crawdads scored 5 runs and added 4 more in the 7th to take the 11-4 win… The Crawdads outhit Drive 13-6 and all their runs came playing small ball while the Drive did have a pair of homers… Drive off tonight travel to Ashville tomorrow to start six-game series with the Tourist.

This & That:

 Summer Camps at Clinton YMCA… The Clinton YMCA has released their schedule of Summer Youth Sports Camps for this year… To see a list of those camps including dates, location, times and cost click here… These camps do have registration deadlines and you register at the Clinton YMCA… The last camp is:

  • Tennis Camp… This camp will be July 8-10 at the tennis courts at Clinton Middle School… Coach Clovis Simmons will be conducting the camp… Boys and girls ages 6-8 will have their camp between the hours of 9:00 and 10:00 am while boys and girls ages 9 and up will have their camp between the hours of 10:00 and 11:00 am… The cost is $30 for YMCA members and $40 for non-members… The deadline to register is Friday, July 5th @ 4:00 pm

 

Basketball Camp…. The LDHS varsity basketball staff and players in association with the City of Laurens Parks and Recreation Department will be conducting a basketball for youth age 9 through 8th grade July 22-25… The camp hours will be from 5:30 pm to 8:00 pm each day… This will be an excellent opportunity for the young player to improve their skills and basketball knowledge form experienced coaches… The first 3 days (Monday-Wednesday) the camp will take place at The Ridge and the last day (Thursday) the action will move to LDHS… You may register for the camp at The Ridge and if you have any questions contact them at 681-7275.
