  • Spring Game… The Raiders finished their spring practice with an hour long contest last night… In the first 30 minutes the Green offense scored twice once on a long 73 yard run by Ty Roberson and again on a 3 yard run by Ryan Campbell…. After a 10minute break the White offense took to the field and they moved the ball well but were only able to score once on a I yard run by Ryan Campbell… Check back later for a short video interview done with coach liner after the contest and a few photos…
  • Juniors Win… In a flag Powder Puff game before the Raiders took the field, the Juniors defeated the Seniors by a TD in a game that was a lot of fun for the participants and the fans.

College Notes:

  • ACC Baseball Tournament…. The tournament in Fayetteville, NC kicked off yesterday with pool play… The #8 seeded Clemso9n Tigers took on the #12 seeded Eagles of Boston College in the very first game of the tournament… Now the news is not good for Tiger fans as Boston College took a 7-5 win in 11 innings… The Tigers fell behind early and fought back to tie the game in the bottom of the 8th inning… The game stayed that way until the 11th inning when the Eagles put the winning runs on the board and then held the Tigers in the bottom of the inning… For more on this game click here… The Tigers will be in action on Thursday at 11:00 am when they take on the #1 seeded Louisville Cardinals… To find out how the other games in the tournament went yesterday and the schedule for today, click here…. Be sure to scroll all the way down when you get to the posting.

  • SEC Baseball Tournament…The SEC Tournament got underway yesterday also and the South Carolina Gamecocks played in the last game of the day which did not start until about 10:00 pm… For you Gamecock fans that might have went to bed early I’ll tell you that South Carolina made a quick exit from the tournament as they lost 8-6 to the #17 ranked LSU Tigers… The gamecocks fell behind 1-0 after one inning of play but put 5 runs on the board in the second to go up 5-1…. LSU then chipped away at the Gamecock’s lead until they finally took the lead in the fourth inning and added to it to make the final 8-6 with South Carolina’s getting its last run in the eighth inning…. For more information on this game and other games in the tournament click here… Moe than likely that finishes the Gamecock’s season as their season record of 28-28 most likely will not get them into the playoffs.

  • Southern Conference Baseball Tournament…. There was only 1 game in the Southern Conference Tournament yesterday at Flour Field and in that game Western Carolina defeated The Citadel 7-3 to earn the right to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament starting today…. CHS Red Devils:

  • Tennis: Clinton 4 – Camden 3… The Red Devil boys’ tennis team hosted the Bulldogs of Camden HS yesterday with a trip to the finals on the line… Well there is good news this morning for Red Devil fans as Clinton took a very close and hard fought 4-3 win over the Bulldogs… In singles action, Ike Waldron and Anders Orr took quick one-sided wins against their opponent… The same cannot be said for Hayden Miner as he to his opponent 4-6 and 0-6… Now Connor Donley lost his first set 3-6 and then came back to take a brief lead in the second set before falling 5-6… While all of that was going on the #2 Clinton doubles team made up of Eli Brewer and Hayden Stinson lost to their opponents 1-6 and 0-6… This put the Bulldogs up 3-2… The #5 singles match was the key to getting the Red Devils into a tie with the Bulldogs… Brandon Campbell fell behind and lost the first set 1-6… He also trailed early in the second set but fought back to take a 6-2 win… In the tiebreaker, Brandon took a 10-4 win to tie the match at 3 all… After a short break the #1 doubles teams faced off for all the marbles… Anders Orr and Ike Waldron took to the courts as the #1 doubles team for the Red Devils… The first set was close one but Waldron and Orr took a 7-6 win… The second set was not as close as they found their stride taking a 6-3 win thus punching the Red Devils ticket to the state finals for the third year in a row… Of course Coach Simmons and the team were elated to be going back to the finals again and only hoped that this time they would “be the bride and not the bride’s maid”… The finals will be at noon this Saturday at the Cayce Tennis Center and the Red Devils will take on the winner of the Academic Magnet vs. Bishop England match yesterday… When I find out who their opponent will be I will pass that on to you… Congratulations to the Red Devils and Go Big Red!

  • Softball: Nation Ford 18 – Laurens 8 (6)… The Raider softball team traveled to Nation Ford to take on the Falcons last Friday in an elimination game in the Class-AAAAA playoffs… The Raiders traveled with one less player than normal as their pitcher Rachel Delio did not make the trip… The Raiders got on the board first scoring 4 runs in the second inning on a mixture of hits and Falcon errors… The Falcons got two of those runs back in the bottom of the inning to make it 4-2… The Raiders made it 5-2 by scoring a run in the top of the third inning when Trinity Daniels tripled with two outs and was later driven in by an RNI single by Bre Posey…  In the bottom of the third inning the wheels fell of the bus for the Raiders as their make-shift pitching struggled as well as the fact they started committing errors as the Falcons platted 10 runs to go up 12-5…  That would be a hole the Raiders just could not climb out of though they never gave up…. The scored 2 more runs in the fifth inning only to have the Falcons get those 2 runs back in the bottom of the inning… The Raiders scored their last run in the top of the sixth inning to make it 14-8 but the Falcons scored 4 runs in the bottom of the inning to go up 18-8 and the game was ended because of the 10 run rule and thus eliminating the Raiders from the playoffs… The Raiders had 9 hits in the game with Trinity Daniels, Kauree Munyan and Bre Posey each getting 2 hits… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following: 4-26-19-LSB-Nat-Ford-PO-… For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-26-19-LSB-Nat-Ford-PO-SC… The Raiders finish the season with an 11-12 record under first year head coach Michela Smith.

Local Notes:

CHS Red Devils:

  • Softball: Chesnee 13 – Clinton 1… The Red Devil softball team opened up its participation in the playoff last night on a less than stellar note as they travelled to Chesnee and the Eagles sent the Red Devils back home with a 13-1 loss… As Coach Caughman put it “they were the hammer and we were the nail”…. Chesnee scored 7 runs in the second inning to go up 8-0 and the Red Devils just could not recover as they had only 1 hit on the night… The Red Devils only run came in the third inning when Maddie Wood walked and after moving up when another Clinton batter was hot by a pitch and a wild pitch scored on a groundout… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following:4-25-19-CSb-Chesnee-PO … For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-25-19-CSb-Chesnee-PO-SC

  • Softball: Byrnes 21 – Laurens 0… Somebody once said some days you get the bear and other days the bear gets you… Well last night as the Raider softball team traveled to Byrnes HS to open their participation in the playoffs and it was definitely a case of the beat (the Byrnes Rebels) getting them as Byrnes defeated Laurens 21-0 To put it shortest possible terms, the Rebels had 14 hits (3 of which were homers) while the Raiders had only 1 hit (by Vanessa Harshaw) and the Rebels were very aggressive on the base paths often stretching singles into doubles and doubles into triples… For the game’s box score and some stats, click on the following:4-25-19-LSB-Byrnes-PO … For the games scorecard, click on the following: 4-25-19-LSB-Byrnes-PO-SC… The Raiders will go right back into action tonight as they travel to nation Ford to take on the Falcons for an elimination game that will start at 6:30….
