Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Redfield

Mrs. Fannie Elizabeth Redfield, age 66, of 404 Calhoun Street, Laurens, died Monday, May 26, 2014 at the Greenville Memorial Hospital, Greenville, SC. 

A daughter of the late Johnnie Green Hill and Julia Alice Pitts and wife of the late Bennie Lee Redfield, she was a former employee of the Laurens Shirt Company and a member of the Rocky Springs Baptist Church.  

She is survived by one son, Kiley Lamont (Bridgetta) Redfield of Mauldin, SC; two daughters, Santiber Redfield and Iris S. Davis of Laurens, SC; four brothers, Joe Louis (Mamie) Hill, James A. (Patricia) Hill, Johnnie (Annie) Hill, Jr., and Bobbie Hill all of Laurens; four sisters, Betty Joe (Maddison) Valentine, Virginia Ann (Leonard) Mobley, Annie B. Hill and Darlene Hill all of Laurens, SC; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren. 

Funeral service was held 3 p.m., Friday, May 30, 2014 at the Antioch AME Church, with Rev. Larry Merrill officiating.  Burial was in the church cemetery.  Beasley Funeral Home, Laurens was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. David Lewis Simpson

Mr.  David Lewis Simpson, age 53, of 108 Campbell Street, Laurens, SC, died Saturday, May 24, 2014 at the St. Francis Hospital, downtown Greenville, South Carolina.

A son of Odessa Simpson Anderson and the late Marvin Anderson, Jr., was born in Laurens County, SC. He is survived by his mother, Odessa S. Anderson of Laurens, SC; two brothers, Bennie (Anita Lynn) Anderson of Fountain Inn, SC and Gregory (Terry) Anderson of Laurens; four sisters, Thelma Anderson of Greer, SC, Brenda (Kendrick) Allen of Ninety-six, SC, Teresa Anderson of Knoxville, TN, and Mary Lee Jones of Mountville, SC. The family is at the home.

 

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2104 at the C.D. Beasley Memorial Chapel of the Beasley Funeral Home, Laurens, with Apostle Ben Anderson officiating. 

 

Jimmie Lee Anderson Sr.

Jimmie Lee Anderson Sr. was born March 9, 1947 to the late Sammie Lee and Annie Mae Anderson in Laurens, South Carolina.

He left many fond memories and impression on many that knew him and those who didn’t.

Amongst those fond memories he shared them mostly with his family.

Jimmie Lee Anderson Sr. was survived by one son, Jimmy Anderson of Clinton, SC, five daughters, Sharon Anderson, Tawanda Simpson, Andra Anderson, Bernice Anderson all of Clinton, SC and Alanda Jennings of Fountain Inn, SC, four brothers, Terry Anderson, James Anderson, Robert Anderson, Sammie Anderson all of Clinton, SC, three sisters, Bertha Ellis, Deloris Robinson, Myra Anderson all of Clinton, SC, 12 grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren.

Jimmie Lee Anderson Sr. went on to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 20, 2014 at the National Health Care in Laurens, SC.

Services for Jimmie Lee Anderson Sr. will be held May 25, 2014 at Elzee AME Church in Clinton, SC.

Burial will take place at the church cemetery.

Reverend Jessie Anderson, Pastor of Elzee AME Church will be the officiating minister.

The family is at the home of his daughter, Sharon Anderson, 304 Bailey Street, Clinton, SC.

James Marvin “Buck” Rush

James Marvin “Buck” Rush, 76, of 711 Church St., passed away Monday, May 19, 2014, at his home.

He was a son of the late Leonard and Eunice Rhodes Rush.  A U.S. Navy Veteran, Mr. Rush was retired from Ceramtec and was a Mason and Shriner.

He is survived by:  a son Chief Petty Officer Steven B. Rush and wife Jennifer of Portsmith, NH; step-son, Todd Daniel Clark of Hickory Tavern; brothers, Edward Rush and wife Myrtis of Easley, Richard Rush and wife Trudy of Laurens, and Robert Rush and wife Sandy of Laurens; and grandchildren, Kaitlyn Case, Addison Rush, and Brent Rush.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters, Dorothy Rush and Frances Rush Bryant.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, May 24, 2014, at Laurens City Cemetery, conducted by Rev. J.D. Putman, Jr. with Masonic Rites.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at the graveside immediately following the service.

Ms. Alma Deloris Beasley

Ms. Alma Deloris Beasley, age 91, formerly of Laurens, SC, died Monday, May 12, 2014 in Jacksonville, Florida. 

A daughter of the late Elbert and Edith Beasley was born in Laurens, South Carolina. She lived fifty- plus years in Washington, DC, where she worked for the Federal Government. She was a faithful member of Lincoln Temple United Church of Christ in Washington, DC, where she served on several committees and ministries.

She was the last survivor of her immediate family. To cherish her memory is her sister-in-law, Mrs. Bernice Beasley of Jacksonville, Florida.

Funeral service was held 11 a.m., Saturday, May 17, 2014 at the C. D.  Beasley Memorial Chapel of the Beasley Funeral Home, Laurens, with Rev. Willie J. Choice officiating.  Burial was in the Clark Street Jersey Cemetery. Beasley Funeral Home, Laurens was in charge of arrangements.

 

 

Barbara Phyllis Russell

Barbara Phyllis Russell, 79, of Agape Assisted Living, passed away Wednesday, May 14, 2014 at Laurens County Memorial Hospital.

Born in Laurens, she was the daughter of the late George Franklin and Gladys Townsend Russell.

A member of Central United Methodist Church, she was a Nurse with Laurens County Hospital, where she retired after 35 years of faithful service and had a room in the ER Department dedicated to her. She enjoyed reading, bowling, and was an avid baseball fan.

She is survived by: her brothers, G. Frank Russell and wife Mamsie of Greenwood and Keith Russell and wife Meg of Laurens; numerous nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 pm, Saturday, May 17, 2014, in Forest Lawn Cemetery, conducted by Rev. Ronnie Blackwell and Rev. Charlie Short.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends immediately following the graveside service.

Mrs. Betty Jean Grant Fuller

Mrs. Betty Jean Grant Fuller, 70, widow of Charles Fuller, of 3643 Harris Springs Road, Cross Hill, South Carolina. Services were held Thursday May 15 @ 2:00 p.m

Born in Laurens County, South Carolina on October 21, 1943, she was the daughter of the late Henry Grant and late Flora Hill-Grant. Officiating was her brother: Rev. Dr. John H. Grant.

Cherishing loving memories are four sisters, Bertha Ree Hill, Zemary G. McGowan (Eugene McGowan, Sr.), Ruth G. Fuller, Maggie Jean Grant; five brothers, Lonzo Grant, Ruben (Bap) Grant, Henry Grant III (Pig), James Grant,    Dr. John H. Grant (Melinda K. Kennedy); special niece, Flora Ree Hill who was reared in the home with all ten siblings; three sons, Charles Fuller, Jr., Carlton Clay Fuller, Clifton Fuller; three granddaughters, Ebony Candita Fuller and Shaquita Nakanelle Fuller, reared in the home, and Cambria Ja’na Fuller.

Alice Beatrice Ferguson

Alice Beatrice Ferguson entered eternal rest on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Wallace Thompson Hospital. Married to the late Joseph Ferguson was born March, 7, 1927 in Union County. She was the daughter of the late Thomas and Zelphia Gilliam. She Joined New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church at a early age. Throughout the years she served as member of the Usher Board, Deaconess, Missionary, Stewardess Board #3, Conference Worker and Sunday School Secretary.

She left to cherish her memories a host of nieces, nephew, grandnieces and grandnephews. She was also survived by her caregivers, Ola Mae Smith and Rachael Miller.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 PM Friday, May 16, 2014 at New Hope A.M.E. Zion Church, Sedalia, SC. Burial will be held in the Church Cemetery.

Mary Hayes Calhoun Owings

Mary Hayes Calhoun Owings, 95, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May 12, 2014.

Born in Bishopville, she was the daughter of the late Clinton Warren and Lidie DesChamps Calhoun. Mary Hayes was the widow of Graves Edwin Owings. They were married in 1943 and lived in Laurens.  She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, Meme, and homemaker. Mrs. Owings was a member of First Baptist Church in Laurens and was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She is survived by:  her children, Dee (Watson) Dorn, Calvin (Patti) Owings, Wayne (Will) Sharpton, and Sara Calhoun (Chuck) Davis; grandchildren, Lee (Alice) Dorn, Lidie Collier, Jonathan (Amanda) Dorn, Elizabeth (Greg) Weaver, John Owings, and Clint Keels; great grandchildren, Caroline, Robert, Ruthanna, Margaret, Hunter, Greyson, Amelia, Harper, Grier, and Ada Grace.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a brother, Warren Calhoun and a grandson, Jeremy Vann.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 15, 2014, at First Baptist Church conducted by Rev. Rickey Letson. A private burial will be held in Laurens City Cemetery.

The family will be at the home of Calvin and Patti Owings, 787 West Main St.

Leesa Knight McGlohon

Leesa Knight McGlohon, 57, of 1341 Bellview Church Road and wife of David Lee McGlohon passed away Sunday, May 11, 2014 at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Laurens, she was the daughter of the late Charles and Audrey Chumlee Knight. Mrs. McGlohon was retired from Kemet, a member of Bellview Baptist Church, and was very active with the Patriot Guard.

Surviving in addition to her husband are her son, Samuel David McGlohon of Laurens and was predeceased by her brother, Randy Knight.

Graveside services will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Bellview Baptist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Adam Powers.

Reba Williamson Spires

Reba Williamson Spires, age 84, of 925 Ranch Road, and widow of Calvin G. Spires, passed away on Monday, May 12, 2014, at Laurens County Hospice House.

Born in Hartford, TN, she was a daughter of the late Robert Lee and Dora Ellison Williamson.  She was a member of Faith Baptist Church and retired from Lydia Mill.

Surviving are two brothers, Larry Williamson and Carl David Williamson, both of Laurens; two sisters, Martha Craine and Mary Sue Merchant both of Laurens; three grandchildren, Calvin Michael Spires, Shannon Spires Aiken, and Paul Lenear Spires, II; and a daughter-in-law, Cindy Spires.

In addition to her parents and husband, Reba was predeceased by her son, Paul Lenear Spires; two brothers, Ray Williamson and Bobby Gene Williamson; and two sisters, Pearl Parker and Jane Riddle.

Graveside services will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, May 14, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Rev. Dan Compton.

Marigene Kilgore Patterson

Marigene Kilgore Patterson 78, was born March 11, 1936 to the late Ollie Edward and Hattie Lucille Kilgore.

She was a former employee of the Laurens School District 55 for many years until her health declined.

She was a faithful member of White Plains Baptist Church in Mountville, SC where she served and attended even during her illness.   She was known to many as the mother and backbone of the church.

Marigene Patterson left many memories to that of her church and to those who really knew and cared for her including her family.  Although she was considered the backbone of the church she truly was the backbone of her family and kept everyone in line even to those who were not her family.

Left to cherish fond memories are; three sons Marion Wilson Patterson, Starling Manley Patterson, and Ollie Benard Patterson all of Laurens, SC, three daughters Sonia Patterson, Priscilla Patterson, and Vivian Patterson all of Laurens, SC, one brother William Arthur Kilgore Sr. of Laurens, SC, three sisters Jessie Campbell of McDonna, Georgia, Ophelia Thomas of Washington, D.C. and Ollie Alexander of Jacksonville, Florida, 22 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

The services for Ms. Marigene Patterson will be held Tuesday, May 13, 2014 at White Plains Baptist Church in Mountville, SC at 2:00P.M.

Burial will take place at White Plains Baptist Church Cemetery.

Dr. Johnny L. Johnson, Pastor of White Plains Baptist Church will be the officiating minister.

A public viewing will be held for Ms. Patterson on Monday, May 12, 2014 at Goins Funeral Home chapel from 9:30AM till 8:30PM.

James Bernard Harris

James Bernard Harris, 94, of 134 Dagnall Circle and husband of Carolyn Crawford Harris, passed away at his home on Friday, May 9, 2014.

Born in Laurens, he was a son of the late Clarence and Bessie Lynch Harris.  Mr. Harris was retired from Clinton Mills and also worked as a Bailiff at the Laurens County Courthouse.  A member of Second Baptist Church for over 80 years, he was a member of the Grange Cothran Sunday School Class.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by:  his children, Linda Harris Chaney, Bruce Simmons and wife Brenda, Wayne Simmons and wife Belinda, Susan Chaney and husband Fred, and Keith Simmons and wife Angie; brother, Joe Harris; 15 grandchildren; and 21 great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Harvey Harris, a daughter Brenda Wilson, and brothers, Gene, Roy, and John.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Monday, May 12, 2014, at Second Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. J.D. Shiflet and Rev. Dan Compton with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Sunday, May 11, 2014.

Homer Beardin Templeton

Homer Beardin Templeton, 87, of 468 Spring Street and widower of Minnie Brewington Templeton passed away Thursday, May 8, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Laurens, he was the son of the late Nathaniel and Annie Mae Snow Templeton. Mr. Templeton ran Shell Service Station for forty years and later was employed with Mattress Warehouse for 18 years.

Surviving are his daughters: Kathy Templeton and fiancé Stacy Corley and Judy Wright and husband David all of Gray Court; sisters, Dorothy Porter of Gray Court and Lois Hughes of Laurens; two grandchildren, Homer Ray Wright and wife Melissa, and Charlie Wright of Gray Court; and nine great-grandchildren, Tyson, Jonathan, Clay, Allen, Brittany, Bailee, Jailin, Dylan and Hayden.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Sunday, May 11, 2014, at Highland Home Baptist Church Cemetery.

Alice Virginia Koon Pugh

Alice Virginia Koon Pugh, 91, passed away Tuesday, May 6, 2014, at Martha Franks Baptist Retirement Community in Laurens. She was married to the late James Allison Pugh for 67 years before his passing in 2012.  Born in Murray, SC, she was the oldest of seven children born to Henry Lee and Katie Hendricks Koon.

She is survived by one brother, Dr. David Koon and wife Brenda of Columbia, one sister, Mrs. Sandra Hawkins and husband, Buck, of Batesburg, and a sister-in-law, Mrs. Thelma Koon of Saluda.

Mrs. Pugh graduated from Newberry College and was a retired school teacher having taught at Whitten Center in Clinton, SC for 22 years. She was a founding member of Hillcrest Baptist Church in Laurens where she served as Sunday School teacher, WMU president, and Bible School President. She also served in the Women’s Auxiliary of Gideons International.

In addition to her siblings, she is survived by four children; daughter, Alyson Pugh of Laurens; sons, Van Pugh and wife Nancy of Simpsonville, David Pugh and wife Lorna of Laurens, and Kevin Pugh and wife Meg of Charlotte, NC; eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

The family will receive friends Saturday, May 10, 2014, from 12:30-1:30 PM at The Kennedy Mortuary in Laurens followed by graveside services at 2:00 PM at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Laurens.

The family will be at the home of David and Lorna Pugh, 114 Hilltop Rd., Laurens, SC.

Walter “Roy” Hall

Walter “Roy” Hall, 67, of 193 Golden Acres Dr. and husband of Sylvene Hilley Hall, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, May 3, 2014, at his home.

Born in Edgefield County, he was a son of Lillie Cruz Hall of Orangeburg and the late Edward Ray Hall.  Mr. Hall was retired from J.P. Stevens in Laurens after 24 years of service and was a member of Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church.

Surviving in addition to his wife and mother are:  daughters, Becky Hall Davis (Mike Sigmon) of Honea Path, and Tammie Hall Marshall (Steve) of Laurens; sons, Roy Hall, Jr. (Tracy) of Pawleys Island and James Hall of Attica, NY; brother, Wayne Hall of Moore; sisters, Rita Creel (Danny) of Orangeburg, Dora Valentine (Jackie) of Orangeburg, Ann McDougal (Phil) of Cordova, and Effie Tedder of Columbia; 9 grandchildren;10 great grandchildren; and 3 great, great grandchildren.

In addition to his father, he was predeceased by a granddaughter, Holly Hall; a grandson, Jaden Moon; and brothers, Raymond, Edward, and William Hall.

Memorial services will be held at 2:00 pm, Friday, May 9, 2014, at Chestnut Ridge Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Alex Henderson, Rev. Tony Crouch, and Rev.. Deloris Rapp.

Danny Earl Crocker

Danny Earl Crocker, 55, of Birmingham, AL and formerly of Woodruff passed away April 28, 2014.

Born in Norfolk, VA he was the son of the late George Douglas Crocker and Sylvia Hendrix Cowles and husband Kenneth Earl Cowles of Waterloo.

In addition to his mother and step-father, he is survived by his long time companion, Margaret Brockman of the home; sisters, Mary Crocker Lanford and husband Tracey of Woodruff and Phyllis Crocker Bishop of Mayo; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be 2:00 PM Friday, May 2, 2014, at Forest Lawn Cemetery conducted by Dr. Bev T. Kennedy, Jr.
