Steven Randolph Brewer

Steven Randolph Brewer, 51, of 1007 Gator Rd, passed away Saturday, April 26, 2014, at his home.

Born in Greenville, he was a son of Charles Chaney Brewer of Gaston and Laura Suttle of Greenville.  A former employee of Gira Steel and also Owens Steel, he was a NASCAR fan and enjoyed professional wrestling and fishing.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by:  sisters, Tonya Aycock of Gaston, Jennifer Fernandez (Joe) of Concord, NC, Angie Suttle of Greenville, and Tina Taylor of Hendersonville, NC; 4 nieces; and 3 nephews.

He was predeceased by his stepmother, Linda Lee Brewer and an infant brother, Jerry Lee Brewer.

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, Thursday, May 1, 2014, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel, 606 West Main St. Laurens, SC 29360, conducted by Rev. James K. Hamilton with interment in Highland Home Baptist Church Cemetery, 21 Equinox Dr. Gray Court, SC 29645.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the graveside following the interment.

Infant Sophie Maye Thomas

Sophie Maye Thomas, infant daughter of Joshua Lee and Tonya Culbertson Thomas, of 454 Paul Ashley Drive, went to heaven on Friday, April 25, 2014.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by her brother, Noah Thomas; her sister, Zoe Thomas; maternal grandparents, Kimberley Culbertson, Wendell Culbertson and Cynthia, all of Laurens; paternal grandmother, Wanda Thomas of Waterloo; maternal great-grandmother, Linda Reed of Laurens; paternal great-grandmother, Louise Whitten of Waterloo; two aunts, Sherri Owings of Woodruff and Dana Lester of Liberty.

A memorial service will be held at 6:00 pm on Friday, May 2, 2014, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel.

The family will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary following the memorial service.

George Russ

George Russ, age 89, of 1700 Teague Road, and widower of Eleanor Watkins Russ, passed away on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at the Hospice House of Laurens County.

Born in Southington, OH, he was a son of the late John and Flora Russ.  George was a veteran of World War II and the Korean Conflict.  He served in the US Navy during World War II on the USS North Carolina in the Pacific Theatre and then served in the US Army until his retirement.  George was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church.

Surviving are a brother, Tom Russ of Warren, OH; four sisters, Virginia Hrinson of Warren, OH, Julia Ann Horan and husband Joe of Mogadore, OH, Florence Peterson and husband Nelson of Warren, OH, and Betty Hedelson and husband Woody of Richmond, OH.  He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services with full military honors will be held at 1:00 pm, Monday, April 28, 2014, at Soule Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery conducted by Rev. Phil Bryson.

The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at the cemetery following the graveside service.

John Henry Fuller

John Henry Fuller, 66 was born May 6, 1947 to the late Arthur Lee and Ella Mae Fuller in Laurens, SC.

In earlier years he worked at a Textile Plant.

John Henry Fuller passed away, Sunday, April 20, 2014 at the Greenville Health System in Greenville, SC.

Left to cherish fond memories are; two sons Terry Bernard Anderson of Laurens, SC, John Fuller of Columbia, SC, three daughters, Tomiko R. Coleman of Laurens, SC, Victoria D. Services for John Henry Fuller will be held tuesday, April 29, 2014 at 2:00 PM at the David and Jeanette Goins Chapel in Laurens, SC.

Alphonso Beagle

Alphonso Beagle, 54 was born April 24, 2014 to the late John and Carrie Mae Beagle in Laurens County, South Carolina.

He was a devoted member to Flat Ruff Baptist Church in Gray Court, SC until his health declined him.

Alphonso Beagle passed away, Thursday, April 24, 2014 at his home at 5 Hanson Circle in Laurens, SC.

He left many memories amongst many people and leaving to cherish those fond memories are; two daughters, Mary Beagle of Clinton, SC, Shuntay Trott of Atlanta, GA, three brothers, Hershel Beagle of Fountain Inn, SC, Jimmy Beagle of Greenville, SC and Howard Beagle of Enoree, SC, two sisters Angela Beagle of Fountain Inn, SC, Ruth Arnett of Fairmont, NC, and four grandchildren.

Mrs. Katherine Irby Milligan, age 85, formerly of Laurens, died in San Pedro, California.

Mr. Willie C. “Schoolboy” Jackson

Mr. Willie C. Jackson better known as “Schoolboy”, age 48, of 204 Lurey Street, Laurens, died Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at his home.  

A son of James Jackson and Rosa Mae Brown Jackson of Laurens, he was a retiree of Whitten Center in Clinton, SC and a graduate of Laurens District 55 High School. 

He is survived by his wife, Angela Burnside Jackson of Laurens; one daughter, Biannca Jackson of Laurens; three stepchildren, Delmonica Burnside, Cameron Butler and Gregory Lee Burnside all of Laurens, SC;; his parents, Willie James Jackson and Rosa Mae Jackson of Laurens; three brothers, Randy Jackson, Kenneth Jackson and, James C. Jackson all of Laurens; two sisters, Sherell (Tyrone) Miller of Fountain Inn and Willene Madden of Laurens and one grandchild. 

Funeral service will be held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 30, 2014 at the C. D. Beasley Memorial Chapel of the Beasley Funeral Home, Laurens, with Bishop Emanuel Spearman and Reverend Tony Cunningham officiating. Burial will be in the Calvary Memorial Garden.

Mr. Sammie Lee Jenkins affectionately known as “PaPa”, 72 entered into eternal rest on April 24, 2014.  He was the son of the late Clarence and Mossie Casey Jenkins. 

He was married to the late Patricia Kelly Jenkins and reared five children in the home. Three daughters, Sheresa (Frank) Sitton, Alveta Brown, Marcia (Brian) Greene, three sons, LeShawne Jenkins, Eric (Leslie) Jenkins and Wallace Glenn,one brother-Nathaniel (Jacquelyn) Glenn, special niece and nephew of the home Kellen Staggs, and Alexis Staggs; Six grandchildren, Freddie Brown III, Kiona Smith, Kamara Nicole Sitton, Landon Jenkins, Treylen Brown, Porscha Jenkins, a great niece Gabriella Staggs; two Uncles- Boner Oree Casey and Lewis (Carol) Casey. There are numerous cousins, nieces and nephews he treasured.

Furman Ervin Williams

Furman Ervin Williams, 87, left this life Thursday, April 24, 2014, in Covington, GA, for a new life with our Lord and Savior.  He was the son of the late W. Furman and Ollie Mae Taylor Williams.

His loving wife of 62 years, Jean Thomas Williams, preceded him in death.  The majority of their lives together were spent in Enoree and Laurens, SC.  Due to health issues, they spent their last years in Covington, GA, near their daughter.  His brother, Bill Williams of Enoree, also preceded him in death.

Ervin was a US Army veteran of World War II, having been stationed in Berlin, Germany.  He received an honorable discharge.  He worked for Inman Mills at the Riverdale Plant in Enoree for nearly fifty years as a machinist.  During free time, he loved fishing and hunting.  His family was his most important possession.  Mr. Williams was a good and loving man. He was of the Baptist faith.

Surviving are two daughters and sons-in-law; Linda W. and Fritz Baldwin of Conyers, GA, and Nancy W. and Tom Matthews of Corpus Christi, TX; a brother, Jim Williams of Laurens, SC; and a sister, Elvie Miracle of Greenville, SC; a brother-in-law, Paul and Betty Thomas of Laurens, SC; a sister-in-law, Julia Williams of Enoree, SC; three grandsons, Jeffrey W. and Heather Baldwin of Fairfax Station, VA, Andy and Kim Casey of San Antonio, TX, and Jason R. and Dana Baldwin of Augusta, GA (currently in Kuwait); seven great-grandchildren; Avery, Maddie, Gracie, Addie, and Anna Baldwin and Sean and Zac Casey; two step-granddaughters; Dianna Matthews and Jennifer Adams; and five step great-grandchildren; Taylor, Brandon, Devon, Ashlon, and Brianna; nine nephews,  two nieces, and many long time dear friends and relatives.

Cryptside services with military honors will be held at 4:00 pm, on Saturday, April 26, 2014, at Forest Lawn Mausoleum conducted by the Rev. J.D. Shiflet.

The family will be at their respective homes and will receive friends at The Kennedy Mortuary from 2:30 to 3:30 pm prior to the service on Saturday.

Helen Gillespie Beck

Helen Gillespie Beck, 76, of 42 S. Haven Drive and wife of the late Jay Hardman Beck passed away Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Born in Laurens County, she was a daughter of the late Claude and Annie Mae Kennedy Gillespie. Mrs. Beck retired from C&T Manufacturing and was a member of Westville Church of God of Prophecy.

Surviving are her children: Faye Lawson of Greenville, Rev. James Beck of Gray Court, Christine Hurst of Taylors, Rachel Crocker of Honea Path, Nancy Federline of Mauldin and Wayne Beck of Greenville; a brother, Jimmy Gillespie of Laurens; sisters, Mary Ann Harvey of Gray Court, Susan Gillespie and Diane Hurley both of Laurens; thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she is predeceased by a brother, William “Billy” Gillespie.

Funeral services will be 11:00 AM Saturday, April 26, 2014, at The Kennedy Mortuary Chapel with burial in Westview Memorial Park.

Shirley Senn Holmes

Shirley Senn Holmes, age 78, of 114 Frontier Dr. and wife of the late Jack Perry Holmes, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Enoree, she was a daughter of the late Julian Mills and Johnnie McDaniel Senn.  A member of First Baptist Church of Laurens and longtime Board Member of the Robert R. Bell Federation of the Blind, Mrs. Holmes was a lifelong, dedicated nurse and retired from Laurens District 55 School System.

She is survived by:  her children, Dr. Jacquelyn Holmes Burns and husband Tommy of Mountville, Jeffrey Neal Holmes and wife Sarah of Nashville, TN, and Joseph P. Holmes and wife Suellen of Laurens; grandchildren, Hunter J. Holmes and wife Brie and Nolan A. Burns; great grandson, Harper Jack Holmes; and sisters in law, Sara Miller Harper of Augusta, GA, Sarah Nelson Holmes of MO; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by a sister, Marietta Senn Harper.

Funeral services will be held at 3:30 pm, Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at First Baptist Church of Laurens, conducted by the Rev. Rickey Letson with burial in Lanford Baptist Church Cemetery.

Kenneth D. Henderson

Kenneth D. Henderson, 66, husband of Nancy Mitchell Henderson, of 6271 Highway 252, Laurens, died Saturday, April 19, 2014, at his home. 

Born in Greenwood, SC, he was the son of the late Laurens A. and Ora Hovis Henderson.  He was retired from Monsanto Corporation in Greenwood, SC, where he was known as, “Dumptruck”.  He was a member, deacon and Sunday School teacher at Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Hodges.

In addition to his wife of 48 years, he is survived by four (4) children: daughter, Cheri Braswell and her husband John of Prosperity, son, Michael T.. Henderson and his wife, Mary of Greenwood, son, Rev. Alex D. Henderson and his wife Melissa of Laurens and daughter, Heather Milam of Fountain Inn.  Eight (8) grandchildren: Andrew Braswell; Krystal, Nate and Jonathan Henderson; Lucas and Sara Beth Henderson; and Keri and Allison Milam; and one (1) great-grandson, Brendin George Lee Henderson; and one sister, Barbara Holcombe of Belton.  He was pre-deceased by a sister, Judy Hinton.

A celebration of Kenneth’s life will be held on Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at 3:00 PM at the Walnut Grove Baptist Church in Hodges, SC, conducted by the Rev. Alex D. Henderson, Rev. Charles Robinson and Rev. Jim Osteen.  Burial will follow in the Union Baptist Church Cemetery in Laurens.  Pallbearers will be: Scott, Kevin, Lance and Travis Holcombe; Brian Lothridge, David Spoon, Marion Butler and Hugh Riley.  Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Walnut Grove Baptist Church and the members of the A.S.K. Sunday School Class.

Michelle Annette “Shelley” Morgan

Michelle Annette “Shelley” Morgan, 41, of 1982 Charlotte’s Rd. went to be with her Lord and Savior, Friday, April 18, 2014, at Greenville Memorial Hospital.

Born in Greenwood, she was a daughter of Robert Eugene and Barbara Anne Craine Morgan.  A member of the Baptist denomination, Miss Morgan enjoyed people and never met a stranger.  She was an inspiration to everyone who knew her.

In addition to her parents, she is survived by:  sisters, Sharon Ethridge of Woodruff and Donna Hughes (Eddy) of Clinton; a brother, David Morgan (Kelly) of Piedmont; nieces, Kristy Wilson (Seth) of Laurens, Kayla and Hope Morgan both of Belton, and Morgan Hughes of Clinton; nephews, Josh Simmons (Becky) of Woodruff and Christopher Hughes of Clinton; and 6 great nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 pm, Tuesday, April 22, 2014, at Lighthouse Baptist Church, conducted by Rev. Enoch Wilson with burial in Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Monica Gazelle Higgins, 53, of 2314 Hwy 56, died April 17, 2014 at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. A native of Spartanburg County,  wife of GYSGT Kelvin Higgins and daughter of the late Willie James and Gertrude Gilliam. She was a member of New Prospect Baptist Church in Enoree, SC but actively attended Lanford Grove Holiness Church in Woodruff, SC and employed at Founders Federal Credit Union, Spartanburg, SC.

Surviving in addition to her husband are three step-children, Jamarr F. Higgins, Stacy I. Woods of Largo, Maryland and Isabelle S. Higgins of Little Rock, Arkansas; one sister, Trina Gilliam of Roebuck, SC; two brothers, James H. (Shirley) Gilliam of Woodruff, SC and Anthony A. (Jacquelin) Gilliam of Fayetteville, NC; three grandchildren.

Willie W. Williams, 79 was born April 8, 1935 in Newberry County to the late Walter and Rose Williams.

Willie Williams attended Laurens County School Districts where he graduated from Sanders High School and was a member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge in Laurens, SC.

Willie W. Williams was called home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at the Hospice House of Laurens County in Clinton, SC.

Left to cherish fond memories are; one daughter,  Danielle, three step-sons, Freddie Lee, James Calvin, John Lewis all of Enoree, SC, one sister-in-law, Patricia Bates of Laurens, SC and three grandchildren.

Mr. L.C. “Dave” Ligon

Mr. L.C. “Dave” Ligon, age 86, of 242 Smyrna Hill Road, Waterloo, SC, died Sunday, April 13, 2014 at his home.  A son of the late A.B. Dendy and Connie Ligon, he was a member of the Laurel Hill Baptist Church and a retiree of B.F. Shaw. 

He is survived by five daughters, Harriet Cunningham, Carolyn Moses, Shirley Ann Martin, Gloria Anderson and Barbara Booker; one sister, Odessa Williams of Waterloo, SC; fourteen grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren.

Funeral service was held 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the Laurel Hill Baptist Church, with Rev. Herbert Glenn officiating. Burial was in the Laurel Hill Baptist Church Cemetery. Beasley Funeral Home, Laurens was in charge of arrangements.
