Athletic Director JR Reid from Sanders Middle stated “I believe that this move is in the best interest of Laurens as a whole. If you want to have a successful sports program at the high school, you must start as early as you can, and work your way up. We may not see the results we are used to seeing at the middle school level and that’s ok, but you will see the results from this move when those student athletes reach the varsity level.” Athletic Director Andrew Campbell at Laurens Middle said “I am excited about our new conference home for Laurens Middle Athletics. The Lakelands Conference will provide a challenging schedule for our teams. We will still schedule Laurens County teams whenever possible. This move was necessary to ensure our student athletes are prepared for Laurens District 55 High School when they leave LMS.”… The following school will make up the Lakelands Conference for the 2016-2017 school year: Northside Middle (Greenwood HS), Brewer Middle (Greenwood HS), McCormick Middle (McCormick HS), Westview Middle (Emerald HS), Newberry Middle (Newberry HS), Mid Carolina Middle (Mid-Carolina HS), Laurens Middle (Laurens HS) & Sanders Middle (Laurens HS)

COLLEGE SPORTS:

  • End of Season Raider Football Statistics… We all know the Raiders season ended a little over a week ago now with the loss to the Northwestern Trojans… We know the Raiders ended the season 6-6… Some people like to keep up with statistics so if you are one of those people, click on the following links for final season stats… 2015-Laurens_final_season_COMBINED

COLLEGE SPORTS:

  • Clemson Wins Palmetto Bowl… Unless you are a space alien who landed in South Carolina within the last 36 hours or have just come out of a comma within that same amount of time, you know that the Clemson Tigers won this years’ Palmetto Bowl 37-32 Saturday in Columbia… If you are honest you most likely thought the final score would have been more lopsided in Clemson’s favor… I know I did… I think that the most talented and better team won Saturday but I am also proud that the Gamecocks didn’t believe all the pre-game hype and played arguably their best game of the season… I truly hope Clemson makes it to the playoff this year but one friendly word of caution… Watch your turnovers… Some teams you will face there most likely will turn them into points… That being said… Go Tigers!

  • South Pointe @ Seneca

COLLEGE SPORTS: This weekend is pretty much rivalry weekend in college football and also the start of the playoffs in the FCS division and below.

FCS Playoffs… Citadel @ Coastal Carolina… 2:00 pm on ESPN3

Rival Games: (some)

  • Georgia @ Georgia Tech
  • Alabama @ Auburn
  • Ohio St. @ Michigan
  • Florida State @ Florida
  • Clemson @ South Carolina… The Gamecocks have an uphill battle to win this one (straight up hill)… They have nothing to lose and Clemson has just about everything to lose if the Gamecocks upset them… An upset by S.C. would almost certainly keep the Tigers out of the Nation Championship playoffs… I head a rumor that the Suicide Prevention Hotlines and the SC Mental Health Association are having extra staff on standby Saturday in case the Gamecocks do win as they expect some Clemson fans might contemplate it… I don’t think they will be needed.

NFL

  • Panthers 33 – Cowboys 14… The Carolina Panthers ran their season record to 11-0 for the first time in franchise history yesterday as they defeated the Dallas Cowboys in Arlington, Texas 33-14… The Panther defense set the tone for the game as they intercepted Tony Romo 3 times in the first half.. Cam Newton was Cam Newton scoring on the ground & through the air.

  • PC 74 – USC Upstate 73… The men returned to action last night as they hosted USC Upstate at the Templeton Center… Again PC trailed at the half by a score of 40-35 but better news as the final score was PC 74 – USC-Upstate 73… Clutch free throws by the Blue Hose down the stretch this time favored PC and Reggie Dillard hit a pair with 1.5 seconds left in the contest to give PC the winning points… Again DeSean Murray led the team with a career-high 24 points… The team will be back in action tomorrow night as they host Taccoa Falls in a 7:00 pm contest… We will catch up with the ladies tomorrow and remember you can get more information on these contest or anything else related to PC sports go to www.gobluehose.com.

Yesterday morning their final appeal to the Appellant Committee at the SCHSL was heard and once again they were denied… So unless the officials at Broome seek further legal options in court, Dreher will be in the playoffs this Friday night and Broome will be watching from the sidelines.
