  • B: Greenwood 70 – Laurens 68… In boys’ action, the Eagles completed the sweep of the Raiders taking a 70-68 win in a game that had two completely different halves… The two teams played about equal in the first quarter as the Eagles only led 20-16 at its end but the Raiders seemed out of sync in the second quarter and the Eagles stretched their lead to 35-23 at the half… About halfway through the third quarter the Raider offense came alive as they closed the Eagle lead to 52-48 going into the last 8 minutes of the game… The Raiders continued to outscore the Eagles in the early part of the fourth quarter and tied the game at 54 all with 5:23 left to play… However the Eagles outscored the Raiders down the stretch and a 3-point shot at the final buzzer by Christian Anderson made the final 70-68… Anderson and Carson Todd led the Raiders with 16 points each… Ryan Dacre finished with 12 points, Dee Foster 10, Ty Foster 6, Justin Anderson & Zy Anderson 3 points each and J’von Harris 2… The Raiders fall to 7-11 on the season and 0-4 in region play… The Raider varsity teams will travel to Hillcrest tomorrow as they also start the second half of their region schedule.

  • G: LA 41 – RWA 20… The Lady Crusaders wasted little time in determining the winner of their game as they took 16-7 lead into the locker room at the half and then came out in the second half and outscored the Eagles 25-13 in the half to insure the victory… Ruthie Moore led all scorers with 24 points and was the only Crusader in double-digits… Blair Quarles finished with 8 points, Florence Mitchell 4, Jennifer Wu & Taylor Campbell finished with 2 each and Taylor Campbell rounded out the scoring with 1 point… The Crusaders are now 19-1 on the season and 6-0 in conference action.
  • B: LA 45 – RWA 33… About 2 weeks ago the RW Eagles’ boys’ team took a 38-33 win over the Crusaders… The Crusaders came into last Friday night’s game wanting to avenge that earlier loss and that is exactly what they did as the Crusaders defeated the Eagles 45-33… The Crusaders started the game a little slow as they trailed 9-8 at the end of the first quarter… The Crusaders managed to pick up the offense in the second quarter and took a 26-19 lead into the halftime break… The Eagles did outscore the Crusaders in the third quarter to make the score 34-30 going into the final 8 minutes of play but the Crusader defense held the the Eagles to just 3 points in the fourth quarter while the Crusader offense put 11 points on the board to make the final 45-33… Joshua Moore had a game-high 20 points for the Crusaders and Noah Moore finished with 10… Dawson Foster scored 9 points, Wil Tindal 4 and both Charlton McCall and Thomas Lowry had 1 point each… The Crusaders improve their record to 6-12 on the season and 3-4 in conference play… The Crusaders host Anderson Christian tomorrow night.

Meanwhile the Raider boys’ team comes into tonight’s game with a 0-3 record in region play and would definitely like to get the first region win against the Eagles who are 2-1 in the region… Both teams are trying to keep pace with Riverside and Wade Hampton who are undefeated in the region at this time… Even though we are broadcasting the games the Raiders I am sure would like to see a large crowd on hand to cheer them on.

  • Alabama 26 – Georgia 23 in OT…  Well if you are any kind of sports fan at all (much less college football) you already know that Alabama took a 26-23 win over Georgia last night in Atlanta to lay claim to this year’s FBS nation Championship… It was a game that saw Alabama come back to tie the game 20 all in the fourth quarter and then blow a chance to win it in regulation as a field goal attempt went wide left as the clock ran out… Georgia had to settle for a 51 yard field goal in the first possession of the overtime and then after a huge quarterback sack, the Tide’s backup quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who replaced Jalen Hurts in the second half, found DeVonta Smith for a 41-yard touchdown on 2nd-and-26. It was Smith’s only catch of the game… Oh well the rich just seem to get richer… If you missed it or want more details on the game, click here to go to the NCAA football home page where all you want to know you can find links to there.

  • B: Clinton 76 – Chapman 75… In boy’s action the Red Devils took a hard fought 76-75 win over the Panthers… The Panthers led 17-14 at the end of the first quarter but the Red Devils fought back and took a 36-31 win into the locker room at the half… Early in the third quarter the Red Devils enjoyed a 10 point lead but the Panthers fought back to take a 59-56 lead going into the final 8 minutes of play… The Red Devils retook the lead with about 5 minutes to play as the two teams continued to battle and the game was tied at 75 all when Zay Hurley was fouled with 12 seconds left to play and hit a free throw to put the Clinton up by one… The Panthers had a chance to win the game when with .5 seconds left a Panther was fouled while fighting for a free throw which put him on the line for a one and one… he missed and the Clinton grabbed the rebound and the game… JD Payne led the Red Devils with a game high 22 points and Ty Priestly was close behind with 20 points… Jahleed Cook was also in double digits with 10 points… Zack James finished with 8 points, Zay Bennett with 6, Vilo Boyd 5, Zay Hurley 3 and Konnor Richardson 2…. • B: ACS 60 – LA 26… Now I wish I could say that the boys completed the sweep of the Lions but that is not possible as the Crusaders shooting was about as cold as the weather and the Lions roared out to a 60-26 win… They jumped on top 22-6 after the first 8 minutes of play and the Crusaders never really threatened after that… Joshua Moore was the only Crusader in double-digits with 11 points… Noah Moore had 6 points, Wil Tindall 4, Dawson Foster 3 and Charlton Moore 2… The Crusaders fall to 4-10 on the season.

College Notes:

FBS Championship Tonight: Alabama vs Georgia…. Well unless you are an alien who just landed on earth or have been a coma and have just come out of it, you know that Alabama and Georgia will compete for the FBS National Championship tonight at about 8:15 in Atlanta… The game will be carried on ESPN with coverage starting at 8:00 pm… I’m sure the network execs are not real thrilled about it being al all-SEC finals as that most likely will decrease the number of viewers nationwide except here in the south… Who to pull for…. Your guess is as good as mine but I am going to be rooting for the DAWGS.

College Notes: A quick recap of some of the bowl games yesterday….

  • Outback Bowl… SC 26 – Michigan 19… In case you missed it, the Gamecocks came back from a 19-3 deficit to take a 26-19 win over Michigan in the Outback Bowl… It truly was a game of 2 different halves as the Gamecock miscues and lack of offense was the story in the first half… That completely turned around in the second half as the Gamecocks scored 23 unanswered points when Michigan had problems with miscues and the Gamecock defense… For more details on this game, click here… The Gamecocks finish the season 9-4 and that is just the seventh time the Gamecocks have had 9 or more wins in a season.
  • Rose Bowl… Georgia 54 – Oklahoma 48 in 2OT….  Arguably the best game of the day yesterday was Georgia’s 54-48 double overtime win over Oklahoma in the Rose to punch their ticket to the national Championship game in Atlanta next week… The Bulldogs trailed 31-17 at the half but came back to take the lead, lose the lead and tie the game in the second half… In the second OT they blocked an Oklahoma field goal to set the stage for the winning TD by Sony Michel… For more information on this game, click here.
  • Sugar Bowl… Alabama 24 – Clemson 6… In case you did not stay up until after midnight last night, Alabama got a measure of revenge last night as they defeated Clemson 24-6 to punch their ticket to the National Championship Game against Georgia next Monday… The bottom line in this game is that the Alabama defense throttled the Clemson offense not allowing the Tigers into the end zone and making them settle for two field goals… The Clemson defense did not play all that bad as more than a few of Bama’s points came from Clemson turnovers or were set up by Tiger turnovers giving the Tide a short field to work with… For more information on this game, click here… The Tigers end their season 12-2 in a year when many thought they would be rebuilding… That’s not bad rebuilding for sure.
