Middle School Results

  • Football: SMS 46 – HT 14… Now there was one middle school football game that was played yesterday and that pitted the Sanders Middle School Yellow Jackets against the Hickory Tavern Panthers at the LMS Field… Sanders scored 24 unanswered points in the first half as they went on to take a 46-14 win over the Panthers… Sanders forced HT to punt on their first possession and Sanders took over on their own 10 yards line… On the first play from scrimmage Duane Martin broke free on a 90 yard TD run to pick up his fist of 3 TDs on the afternoon… The 2-point conversion failed so SMS had a 6-0 lead with 4:28 left in the opening quarter… The Panthers were again forced to punt on their next possession and the snap to punter was low and when he went to field the ball, his knee was on the ground so the ball was downed at that spot and Sanders took over at the HT 32 yard line… Four plays later Martin again carried the ball into the end zone this time from 8 yards out to make the score 12-0 with 7:48 left in the half… The Panthers were unable gain a first down and a came up short on a 4th down situation again giving the ball to the Yellow Jackets deep in their territory at the 32 yard line… During the ensuing possession, Sanders scored 4 times but only the last one counted as Sanders penalties called 3 of them back… The one that finally counted came on a 65 yard run by Ke’vazea Pitts… with 2:28 left in the half the score now stood 18-0… After HT was unable once again to sustain a drive, Sanders took over at their own 20 yard line… Two plays later Martin again broke off a 65 yard TD run for his 3rd core of the game with 11.7 seconds left in the half… The 2nd half started with Sanders fumbling away the ball in HT territory with the Panthers Tyler Alewine recovering the ball for HT at their own 35 yard line… Nine plays later Harold Harrison scored from 12 yards out to put HT on the board and make the score 24-6… On the second play of the next series, Sanders Keshawn Bluford went 30 yards to put Sanders up 30-6 with 6:11 left in the game… The Panthers then mishandled the kick off and Sanders Riley Whithead recovered the ball at the HT 33 yard line… Rakeem Suber carried the ball to the house on the very next play and Suber added the 2-point conversion to make the score 38-6… The panthers then came back and put together a 63 yard drive which ended with Harrison picking up his second TD on a 21 yard carry… Jackson Mahon then made the 2-point conversion to make the score 38-14 with 2:44 left in the game… Sanders last score came on a 55 yard run by Jeremiah Fuller with the 2-point conversion coming on a pass from Cade Liner to Zy Miller…. It took the Wildcats just 2 plays to put points on the scoreboard again as Nigel Fant carried the ball on both plays with the last one being a 45 yard run for the score… The conversion failed and the Wildcats had a 14-8 lead with 5:02 still showing on the clock in second quarter… The Wildcats Riley McSwain picked off a Tiger pass very soon afterwards giving the Wildcats the ball at the Clinton 37 yard line… After a CMS penalty, Fant picked up his 2nd TD on a 67 yard run… Again the 2-point conversion failed and the Wildcats went up 20-6 with 4:07 left in the half… The Tigers then covered 60 yards in 4 plays to score again on a 24 yard TD pass from Campbell to Smith to make the score 20-12 with about 90 seconds left in the half… Clinton responded with another TD with seconds left in the half with Caughman connecting with Richardson for the second time (this time for 30 yards) and the score making it 26-12 Wildcats… The Wildcats left just enough time on the clock for the Tigers to get off 1 play which turned out to be a 61 yard scoring strike with Campbell again getting the ball to Smith as the clock ran out… This made the score 26-18 Wildcats at the half… The second half would prove to be just as exciting as the first.. Clinton took the opening kickoff and proceeded to drive in Tiger territory before coughing up the ball with D. Smith falling on it for the Tigers at their own 37 yard line… The Wildcats stopped the Tigers after a first down and forced them to punt but a roughing the kicker penalty gave the Tigers new life which they capitalized scoring a few plays later on a Campbell quarterback keeper from 1 yard out early in the final quarter… The score was now 26-24 with the Wildcats clinging to a 2 point lead… The Wildcats then stretched their lead out to 32-24 on the first play from scrimmage as Caughman hit Richardson on a 51 yard scoring toss the third TD of the day for the pair… LMS took only 5 plays to get back on the board as Campbell once again hit Smith for a TD this one a 45 yard score… Campbell then picked up an important 2-point conversion to tie the score with just over 4:30 left in the contest… The Wildcats then went on a long drive with Rasheev Smith carrying it the last 4 yards for the score… The critical 2-point conversion came up just short as the Wildcats now led 38-32 with 25.8 seconds left in the contest… The Tigers then had a 10 yard return on the kickoff to set them up on their own 45 yard line with the clock running down quickly… They hustled to the line of scrimmage and Campbell spiked the ball to stop the clock with 5.3 seconds left setting the stage for the final winning play of the game… The Wildcats now stand 2-1 on the season and 11 in conference play while the Tigers go to 2-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
