- Raider Baseball at Northwestern Tonight… The Raider baseball team has made its way through the losers bracket of the District I AAAA baseball playoffs and will travel to Rock Hill today to take on the Northwestern Trojans… As you may remember the Raiders lost to Northwestern last Thursday night by a score of 10-4… As you may also remember the Raiders led 4-3 going into the bottom of the sixth inning when Northwestern put 7 runs on the board to take the win… The Raiders will try to make sure that does not happen again today… The Raiders must win two games to advance to the upper-state playoffs starting this Saturday… Game one of the possible doubleheader is scheduled to have the first pitch thrown at 5 pm this afternoon… should (when) the Raiders win that game, game two will take place after a short break… Now I hope you can make it over to Rock Hill tonight but if you can’t we are planning on bringing you all the action here on Real Radio 860 WLBG starting a couple of minutes before 5 pm… Remember that all live sporting events are streamed live on the internet at www.wlbg.com. - Tennis: CHS 6 – West Oak 0… The Red Devil tennis team started their participation in the SCHSL AAA playoffs yesterday with a 6-0 win over West Oak… Isaac MacMillan, Robert Powell, Ike Waldron and Alexander Windsor all took dominating wins in singles action… Tyler Trevino also took a win in singles action but was pushed to do so in the second set… Only the #2 doubles team of Bowen Tiller and Zach Bedenbaugh played and they won also…. The Red Devils advance to the second round then Thursday when they will host Chapin starting at 5:15.
- Basketball Coaching Announcements at CHS… Assistant Athletic Director Nickie Templeton announced yesterday some new basketball coaching assignment for the Red Devils… Assistant Principal Jim Still will be the new boys’ varsity head coach… Still was the head coach at Greenwood before getting into administration… He assisted Tosh Corley this past season who took the job temporarily… He will be assisted by Eddie Romines who has been serving as the JV head coach for the past couple of years… Replacing Romines as JV coach will be Dontavious Glenn… The replacement for Chris Wofford who stepped down as girls’ head coach was also named and that will be John Gardner who assisted Wofford last year… No assistant for him has been named and Jo Webb will continue to serve as JC girls coach.
- Golf: Catching up with the Clinton boys’ golf team, they participated in the region tournament on Monday at Lancaster and finished third… Lancaster finished first with a 310, South Pointe second with a 332 and Clinton third with a 354… The third place finish means that the team qualified for the Upper-State Championships next week in Seneca… Harrison Fisher led the Red Devils with a 3 over par 75 to finish second and receive All-Region honors… Karl Gustafson added an 85 and William Lollis an 86… Blaine Crisp rounded out the scoring with a 108 which was 10 shots better than his average… With Clinton’s 4th seeded golfer missing due to an AP exam, Clinton was forced to play with only 4 golfers and had no room for error… While the first three played right around their average, Crisp was 5 shots better than his season average… Coach Chris Wofford added “I felt that Harrison, William and Karl would play up to their capabilities but Blaine was put in a position that he knew his score was going to count and I am very proud of him going out and keeping really big numbers off his card and giving us a chance to play in the Upper State tournament next week.”
