McDaniel Named to Federal Post in D.C.

Laurens County Council Member Garrett C. McDaniel joins the Biden Administration in Washington, DC this Monday, May 10th. He has been named  Director of Executive Scheduling and Operations for the Secretary of the United States Housing and Urban Development. Garrett McDaniel told WLBG News he will miss his hometown and service on County Council but looking forward to the new opportunities to serve in Washington.

McDaniel submitted a letter to County Council Clerk Walsh resigning his position on County Council, representing Council District 3, effective this Monday, May 10th, when his position with the federal government begins.

In his letter of resignation from County Council, Garrett McDaniel said, “It has been a long and difficult decision, but due to job opportunities presented, I

must announce my resignation as an elected member of the Laurens County

Council.” McDaniel added, “It has been a great honor to follow in my father’s footsteps to have been elected by the citizens of County Council District #3. I am proud of our County’s civic spirit, and I am sorry to be leaving before my term is over. I thank all for their confidence in me. I am grateful for the opportunity to have served.”

A special election is being set to elect a new council member to replace Garrett McDaniel for Seat 3 on Laurens County Council. Laurens County Elections Director Lynne Scott announced that a 8-day filing period will open in the Election’s Office at noon Friday, May 28th. Filing will close at noon Saturday, June 5th.

Party primaries to select candidates to replace McDaniel on County Council will be held Tuesday, July 20th. The Special General Election is scheduled for Tuesday, September 21st.

Garrett McDaniel’s term on County Council for District 3 expires December 31st, 2024.
