D-I College Baseball

  • Virginia 4 – Old Dominion 3 (10)… Well the winner of the Columbia Regional was finally decided early yesterday afternoon when the Virginia Cavalier took a 4-3 win over the Old Dominion Monarchs in 10 innings when their starting pitcher and DH Devin Ortiz hit a walk-off homer in the bottom of the 10th inning to punch their ticket to the Super Regional and the field of 16 trying to get to Omaha for the College Baseball World Series.
  • Super Regionals Set… Virginia’s win was the final piece of the puzzle in determining the Super Regional pairings and sites… Before the game finished yesterday the NCAA notified the University of south Carolina that Founders Park in Columbia would be the site of the one of the Super Regionals with the winner of yesterday’s game (Virginia) being the host and Dallas Baptist University would be their opponent… So if you are a college baseball junkie you will get to see some baseball in Columbia this weekend…Now to see the other super regional sites and teams, click here to go to the NCAA webpage where the interactive bracket is located and you can find out that information plus what day (Friday or Saturday) the Super Regional will start, time and TV view information.

Baseball

  • Braves 9 – Phillies 5… The Braves started their current road trip and series with the Phillies off with a bang last night as they took a 9-5 win over the Phillies… The Braves trailed 5-4 late in the game when they broke it open in the 8th inning scoring 5 runs to put the game away… The Braves only outhit the Phillies 12-11 but 3 of their hits were homers… Ronald Acuna Jr. hit his 18th homer in the 3rd inning while William Contreras had one in the 4th and Austin Riley had one in the big eighth inning for the Braves… The two teams will play again tonight in Philadelphia at 7:05 pm.
  • Dash 6 – Drive 4… The news is not as good for Greenville Drive fans as they started their six-game series with the Winston-Salem Dash on a sour note as they wound up on the short end of a 6-4 game with the Dash…  The Drive led 4-0 early but a couple of two-run homers one in the 4th inning and the other in the 7th inning by the Dash proved to be their undoing…. The Drive’s Devlin Granberg did hit his 7th homerun of the season a 2-run blast in the second inning.
