Interim City Manager Named In Clinton

The city of Clinton has been in a bit of a bind.  Their City Manager resigned in January.  Then Assistant City Manager filled that void serving as Interim City Manager sine that time.

However, Mr. Higgs recently accepted the position of County Administrator for Laurens County leaving Clinton with no City Manager, interim or otherwise.

During a special called meeting of Clinton City Council yesterday evening council entered an extended executive session to discuss a personnel issue regarding the Office of City Manager.

When council returned to open session, Council Member Danny Cook entered a motion for council to authorize City Attorney Allen Wham to negotiate a contract with Rebeccah Vance to serve as Interim City Manager for Clinton.  That motion was approved by a unanimous vote of council.

Next, Council Member Megan Walsh made a motion for council to appoint Joey Meadors as Administrative Officer to act in the absence of a City Manager until such time as a City Manager is appointed.  The motion also sought “to approve and ratify retroactively any action already taken by Mr. Meadors as Administrative Officer.”  That motion also passed by unanimous vote.

So, Mr. Joey Meadors, Clinton’s Director of Public Works, now officially is authorized to act as City Manager.  That authority will end once Ms. Vance is on board in the capacity of Interim City Manager.
