Local Notes:

Clinton HS:

  • Clinton Host Calhoun County Tonight… After Swansea was forced to cancel its game with the Red Devils tonight due to COVID problems, the Red Devils were able to pick up a game with the Calhoun County Saints at Wilder Stadium… The Saints are a Class A Region III team with a record of 1-1… They lost to Whale Branch in their opening game of the season 54-50 and defeated Barnwell 26-15 two weeks ago 26-15…  Whale Brach is another Class A team who has only played the Saints while Barnwell is a Class AA team  whose record is 2-1 having defeated Williston-Elko 35-0 and Saluda 40-8 and its only loss was to the Saints… The Red Devils are of course 2-0 and the kickoff will be at 7:30… For ticket information look in the This and That section below… Go Big Red!

Laurens HS:

  • Raiders Idle Tonight… Just a reminder that the Raiders have cancelled their game with Daniel tonight and plan on resuming action next week at River Bluff HS.

Laurens Academy:

  • Crusaders on the Road… The Laurens Academy Crusaders will be on the road tonight traveling to Clarendon Hall to take on the … The young Crusaders are looking for their first win of the season while the Saints are 2-0 on the season having taken wins over Providence Home School by a score of 38-0 and Cathedral Academy by a score of 46-18… I’m hoping the ride back will be a happy one for the Crusaders!

Ware Shoals

  • Hornets at Home…   My old home school the Ware Shoals Hornets will be hosting the Greenwood Christian Hawks tonight at Tommy Davis Field… Both teams come into the t with a 1-2 record…The Hornets have been plagued by injuries so I’m hoping they have gotten some players back for tonight’s game… Go Hornets.


TD Club Meeting… Yesterday the Laurens County Touchdown Club met out at The Ridge… The local high school coaches talked about their recent games and the upcoming games some of which have been affected by COVID and injuries… Presbyterian College Head Football Coach Kevin Kelly was the featured speaker… The TD Club also honored Bryson James of CHS and Zy Todd of LDHS the two most recent TD Club Players of the Week. Thanks to all who sent me photos as I was not able to attend.

Broadcast Schedule: Below is a list of dates, times and teams that we plan on broadcasting live on Real Radio WLBG… And as usual you can hear it live on 860AM, 104.1 FM and the internet at… All of the following are weather and COVID dependent and are varsity games… If it is a varsity football game, coverage will begin about 6:05 pm with the Friday Night Insiders program.

Major League Baseball

  • Braves 7 – Nationals 6 (10)… In the final game of a three-game series in Atlanta last night the Braves took a 7-6 win over the Nationals to win the series 2 games to one but it took them 10 innings to do it…. The two teams went back and forth all game long and the Nationals scored a run in the top of the 9th inning to tie the game 6-6… In the bottom of the 10th inning Joc Penderson had a two-out single to drive in Ozzie Albies from third for the walk-off win… In the game the Braves had five homeruns as Steven Vogt (7) had a pair of solo homers while Jorge Soler (23), Freddie Freeman (29) and Adam Duvall (34) each had a solo homer… The Braves start a three-game series with the Marlins at home tonight.
  • Drive 9 – Crawdads 6… Last night in Hickory, NC the Greenville Drive took their third-straight win over the Crawdads by a score of 9-6… The Drive took an early lead and never trailed in the game but did have to hold on as the Crawdads rallied for 3 runs in the 9th inning but the Drive were able to hold on… The Drive outhit the Crawdads 13-11 and two of their hits were homers… Tyler Dearden (22) had a three-run homer in the 5th inning and Will Dalton (6) had a two-run homer in the 6th inning… The Drive will finish their six-game series with the Crawdads in Hickory over the weekend.

  • Single Game Football Tickets on Sale at CHS… Information has been released concerning the purchase of individual contest tickets for home contest at Clinton HS and Clinton MS… The preferred method of sale for all athletic contests at both schools will still be online but a few tickets for varsity football will be offered for sale at 4 local businesses… There will also be a very few tickets for sale at the ticket booth the day of the contest… For more information on this I encourage you to click here to go to the CHS Athletic website where there is a posting that gives you much more information about this including price, the businesses where the varsity football tickets can be purchased,  procedure to purchase online tickets and much more… Please check it out… Go Big Red!
