LCC Adopts Criteria For Development Of The Redistricting Plan

At Tuesday Night’s Laurens County Council Meeting, council unanimously adopted Resolution 2022-2C, which adopts the criteria for the development of the redistricting plan based on the 2020 census.

The criteria is as follows; to adhere to the constitutional requirement of one (1) person, one (1) vote and by following constitutionally-mandated equal protection requirements and accepted population variances (County Councils must adhere to a state law of population variance under 10%, to adhere to the 1965 Voting Rights Act, as amended, and the controlling court decisions, to endeavor to draw districts contiguously, so that all parts of each district are connected to one another, to respect “Communities of Interest,” and to attempt to maintain constituent consistency; and to strive to avoid splitting precincts; and Solicit and consider public input.
