  • NBA Great Bill Russell Dies at 88… As most of you know who have listened the last 12

years I usually don’t mention sports starts who have passed away unless they are in the truly icon classification like the late Hank Aaron… Well I am going to mention one today and that is Hall of Famer and Celtic Great Bill Russell… Russell died yesterday at the age of 88… Time does not allow me to mention all of his accomplishments but to say the least he was a champion…. He played on 2 high school state championship teams, two NCAA championship teams, captain of the gold-medal winning Olympic team, 11 times an NBA champion, the first black NBA coach (first black head coach of any North American pro sports team) and won 2 NBA championships as a coach… The NBA has honored him by naming the NBA Finals MVP Award the Bill Russell Award… Off the court his quiet dignity and leadership in the in the Civil Rights movement have earned him Presidential Medal of Freedom Award in 2010… For those of you too young to remember him I invite you to click here to go to the NBA website where there is much more on his passing and career.

    • Sunday: Braves 1 – D-backs 0… Then yesterday the Braves managed to sweep the D-backs by taking a 1-0 win but they had to go all the way to the bottom of the 9th inning to do it… The D-back starter Merrill Kelly and the Braves starter Max Fried locked up in a pitcher’s duel that saw both of them throw 7 scoreless innings before turning the game over to the bullpens… In the bottom of the 9th with 1 out, Matt Olson singled for the Braves… Austin Riley then strengthened his claim on an MVP season as he doubled on the first pitch he saw driving in Olson fort eh walk-off win.
