Local Notes:

Clinton HS

  • Clinton Host AC Flora and Chesnee… Yesterday morning the Red Devils hosted the AC Flora Falcons and the Chesnee Eagles in a 3-way scrimmage where the teams ran a certain number of plays against different opponents in different series… I had to leave before it was over but early on in the scrummage Bryson James broke a couple of TD runs… Later Bryce Young connected with Devin Swindler on a long TD pass… Austin Copeland also connected with Justin Copeland for another TD… The Red Devil defense did give up a couple scores but Hezekiah Kinard and Trey Cook intercepted a pass… Afterwards Coach Fountain commented he just wanted the team to go out and have fun and use this as a learning situation as to what they are doing well and what they need to work on… To see a short slide show of a few photos taken at the scrimmage click here.

Laurens HS

  • Raiders and Mavericks Scrimmage to a Draw… The Mauldin Mavericks came to KC Hanna Stadium yesterday morning in a scrimmage that gave both teams a chance to “hit” someone who was not a teammate… In the half of play that the two varsity teams got the ball 4 times each the fought to a tie… Maudlin scored first at the end of their third possession on a 6 yard pass… The Raiders wasted little time on their next possession as Gemire Darden ran 25 yds. on the first play from scrimmage to the Raider 45 and then James Rawl hit Cayson Elledge on a 55 yd. scoring strike… After the first half of play the remainder of the scrimmage was spent with each team working on situational scenarios and the JVs got in on some of the same…. After the scrimmage Coach Smith was quick to point out that Gemire had several good runs and Jackson Martin had a great day at safety with some key tackles… “Our coaches saw a lot of positives to build on but we do need to develop some depth on both sides of the ball from our younger players.”
