Clinton HS

Cross Country… last Saturday morning the Red Devil cross country teams participated in the Eye Opener event up at Milliken in Spartanburg… There were over 120 teams at the event.

  • Boys Finish in Top 10… In the boys’ portion of the meet, the Red Devils finished 8th out of 50 teams participating in the Championship Race… This is the first time the Red Devils have finished in the top 10 in this event… The team was led by Charlie Cody who ran the best time of his career which was 16:41:40 and that is also a new record time for the Red Devils… To see much more on this meet including how the other Red Devil varsity and JV runners did, click here… Congratulations to the team on such a fine showing in the meet… Go Big Red!
  • Girls Finish 42nd The Lady Red Devils also had a good showing in the girls’ portion of the same met as they finished 42nd out of over 120 teams… Elizabeth Reid led the team with a time of 21:53:70… For more information on how other Lady Red Devil varsity and JV runners did click here.
  • JV Football on the Road… The Red Devil JV football team will be on the road this afternoon as they travel to Aiken for a 5:30 pm game.
  • Clinton MS Pays at Home Today…  According to the schedule on the CHS Athletic website the Clinton MS Wildcats will host Brewer at 5:30 today at Wilder Stadium

Laurens HS

  • Girls Tennis… Doing some catching up with the lady Raider tennis team I found a little information on the two of their matches to date…. Back on Wednesday, 8-23 the Raiders hosted Hillcrest and fell by a score of 6-o to the Lady Rams… Then on Thursday, 8-3 they hosted the Fountain Inn Fury and fell by a score of 4-2… In this match Kelsie Little and Sara Beth Field both took wins in singles action.
  • JV Football Tonight… The Raider JV football team will have their home opener tonight as they host the Chapman Panthers at about 6:30 after the middle school football game at 5:00 pm.

Laurens Academy

  • MS Football… According to the schedule posted on the Laurens Academy website, the middle school football team will host Newberry Academy today at 6:00 pm at Todd Kirk Field. 

Middle School Football… According to the master middle school football schedule that I have the area teams kick off their season today… If you are at one of the games please ask the coaches to report the scores to me tonight…. All games start at 5:00 pm unless otherwise noted.

  • FBS AP RankingsThe latest AP Ranking (9-5-23) for the FBS Division still has Georgia at #1 and Michigan #2… Alabama moves up a spot to # 3 and Florida State goers from #8 to #4… Ohio State rounds out the top 5… Clemson drops from #9 all the way to #25… To see the entire top 25 click here.

 Atlanta Braves

  • Cardinals 11 – Braves 6… The Braves losing streak is now up to 3 games as the Cardinals took an 11-6 win over the Braves last night in Atlanta… They scored 4 runs in the 1st inning of Spencer Strider (16-5) who took the rare loss…The Cardinals only outhit the Braves 14-10 but 4 of their hits were homers while the Braves had only 2 homers… Matt Olson led the Braves at the plate going 3 for 4 as he had one of the Braves two homers (his 46th of the season) and Austin Riley (34) had the Braves other homer… The Braves will try to avoid the sweep tonight at 7:20 pm in the series finale.

Greenville Drive.

  • Iron Birds 5 – Drive 3… The Greenville Drive continued their second half of the season woes as they lost to the Aberdeen .Iron Birds up in Maryland last night by a score of 5-3… The Iron Birds scored 2 runs in the 1st inning and 3 in the 3rd inning and then held to Drive to just 3 runs in the 7th in route to the win… The Drive scored all their run playing “small ball” while the Iron Birds did have one homer.

NASCAR

  • Kyle Larson Wins First Playoff Race at DarlingtonIn the Cup Series playoff race at Darlington Sunday night, Kyle Larson took the win in the Cook Out Southern 500 at Darlington…  He led the last 55 laps of the race and held off Tyler Redick to take the win… Click here for more information on the race.

  • Laurens County TD Next Meeting September 7th… The Laurens County Touchdown Club kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday, August 24th… The club meets bi-weekly at The Ridge (City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters) at noon for a lunch… Each week the high school coaches will talk about their recent games and upcoming opponents… After the first meeting, there will also be quest speakers… To see a list of who those speakers are scheduled to be for each meeting click here… The TD Club will close out its season on Wednesday, December 6th with its Post Season Awards Banquet… For more information on how to join the club or become a sponsor click here… See you there!
