Sports Talk Media High School Football Recap… Each week during the high school football season Sports Talk Media Network does a recap of high school football in the South Carolina… It is about 10 minute long… They have made that recap available to WLBG and I will make it available for you to listen to… Click on the week below to hear it… Enjoy!

Clinton HS
- Cross Country… Yesterday I mention to you that the Red Devil boys’ cross country team had traveled to Palmetto HS to participate Palmetto Invitational on Tuesday and finished 4th out of 10 teams participating… If you missed that yesterday, click here… Yesterday I mentioned that girls’ team had also participated but I did not have any details… Well, I do now.
- Red Devil Girls Finish 9th… The Lady Red Devil team finished 9th out of 11 schools participating in the meet at Palmetto HS on Tuesday… Mauldin won the meet with a great score of 33… The leading runner for the Red Devils was Elizabeth Reid who finished 5th overall with a time of 21:52:97… Now if you would like to see how the other varsity and JV runners for the Red Devils did as well as the order of finish and score for the other participating school, click here.
- Tennis: Clinton 5 – Mid-Carolina 1… Yesterday the Lady Red Devil tennis team hosted the Lady Rebels of Mid-Carolina HS on the courts at Clinton MS… Good news for Red Devil fans as they took a 5-1 win over the Rebels… The Red Devils won all five of their singles matches and they did so quite handily… Taking wins were Chandler Daily, Libby Dailey, Kimora Wesley, Carley MacMillan and Addy Derrick… For more information on this match click here… The team is now 2-1 on the season and travel to Woodruff HS for their first region match of the season.
- JV Football… The Red Devil JV football team is scheduled to travel up to Chapman HS today to take on the Panthers at 6:00 pm… The Red Devils are undefeated and will do all they can to stay that way…
Laurens HS
- JV Football: The Raider JV football team is scheduled to host the Union County Yellow Jackets tonight at 6:30 pm at KC Hanna Stadium… The team has been showing progress as the season has gone along and lost a heartbreaker to Chapman last Thursday… Come on out and cheer them on if you can.
Middle Football Schedule for Thursday 9-14-23… All games start at 5:00 pm unless otherwise noted.

- FBS AP Rankings… The latest AP Ranking (9-9-23) for the FBS Division still has Georgia at #1 and Michigan #2… Florida State moved up a spot to #3… Texas jumped from #11 to #4 and Southern Cal moved up a spot to #5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Ohio State, Penn State, Washington, Notre Dame and Alabama which was # 3 last week…Clemson dropped out of the top 25 and would be #26 … To see the entire top 25 click here.
- FCS Coaches Poll… The latest FCS Coaches Poll (9-10-23) for college football still has South Dakota State and North Dakota State listed as 1 & 2 in that order… The only team from South Carolina in the top 25 is Furman who is listed at #8 down from last week’s #6… To see the entire top 25 in the Coaches Poll click here.

Atlanta Braves… The Braves started a 4-game series in 3 days yesterday making up a rained out game from earlier in the season as they played a doubleheader with the Phillies
- Braves 4 – Phillies 1… The Braves finished their current series with the Phillies last night up in Philadelphia with a 4-1 win… In doing so Braves won the National League East for the 6th straight year… The Braves scored two runs in the 1st inning on the strength of Austin Riley’s 35th homer of the season… The Phillies scored their only run in the bottom of the inning to make it 2-1 Braves… The Braves scored another run in the 3rd inning on a sacrifice fly by Riley and their last run in the 4th inning on a RBI double by Kevin Pillar… Spencer Strider (17-5) got the start and the win giving up 1 earned run on 4 hits while striking out 9 and walking just 2.

Greenville Drive.
- Drive… The Greenville Drive were off last night after taking a 3-2 win over the Hickory Crawdads back on Tuesday in game one in game 1 of the SAL Southern Division playoff game… Game 2 will be tonight at Flor Field and the Drive can win the Southern Division championship with a win tonight… Game 3 if needed will be tomorrow night at Flour Field.
- Drive Schedule… The Drive will return home to play the Crawdads in game 2 of the Division series Thursday night and the “if needed” game will be Friday night at Flour Field… To see the Drive’s schedule, click here.

NASCAR
Tyler Reddick Wins at Kansas Speedway Last Sunday… In the second playoff Cup Series Race out at Kansas last Sunday, Tyler Reddick won in overtime to punch his ticket into the Round of 12… His car is co-owned by Denny Hamlin who finished second just 0.327 seconds behind Reddick…Click here for more information on the race.
Playoff Standings… Kyle Larson and Reddick are now atop the leader board in the Chase for the Cup and the 16 drivers that are in there will be cut down to 12 after this Sunday’s race at Bristol… To see the complete standings for the playoffs, click here.

- Laurens County TD Next Meeting September 21st … The Laurens County Touchdown Club kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday, August 24th… The club meets bi-weekly at The Ridge (City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters) at noon for a lunch… Each week the high school coaches will talk about their recent games and upcoming opponents… After the first meeting, there will also be quest speakers… To see a list of who those speakers are scheduled to be for each meeting click here… The TD Club will close out its season on Wednesday, December 6th with its Post Season Awards Banquet… For more information on how to join the club or become a sponsor click here… To go to another part of our website where links to videos of this seasons past meetings, click here… See you there!
