Sports Talk Media High School Football Recap… Each week during the high school football season Sports Talk Media Network does a recap of high school football in the South Carolina… It is about 10 minute long… They have made that recap available to WLBG and I will make it available for you to listen to… Click on the week below to hear it… Enjoy!

Clinton HS

  • JV Football: Clinton 38 – Chapman 20… The Red Devil JV football team traveled up to Chapman HS last night to take on the Panthers … The Red Devils led 26-0 at the half and then withstood a second half comeback attempt by the Panthers to take a 38-20 win to remain undefeated on the season… I don’t have any other details but if I get them, I will pass them on to you next week.

Laurens HS

  • .JV Football: Raiders 14 – Union County 6… The Raider JV football team hosted the Union County Yellow Jackets last night at KC Hanna Stadium and good news for Raider fans as the team picked up its first win of the season taking a 14-6 win over the Yellow Jackets. The Raiders got on the scoreboard first on a10 yd. run by Jace Campbell with 5:03 left in the first quarter… BJ Hill had a big run to get the Raiders in scoring position… Diego Angeles kicked the PAT…The Raiders last score came as time ran out in the first half on a 40 yard pass from Jace Campbell to Mar’Quis Copeland who made a great catch in the endzone… Again the PAT was kicked by Angeles to make it 14-0 Raiders at the half…The Yellow Jackets got their only score with 8:37 left in the game on a 7 yd. run by their quarterback Hayden Lawson but the PAT failed

Middle Football Results From Last Night.

  • Christ Church 28 – Sanders 22… The Sanders Yellow Jackets played host to the Christ Church Cavaliers… The Cavaliers won 28-22 but the Yellow Jackets did not go down without a fight especially in the second half…The Cavaliers led 14-0 before JJ Elmore-Bennett put Sanders on the board with 3:29 left in the half on a 23 yd. and added the 2-point conversion rushing  to make it 14-8 Christ Church… Christ Church scored again with 4:19 left in the 3rd quarter to make it 20-6 Cavaliers… The Cavaliers scored one more time with 4:32 left in the game to make it 28-8… Then the Yellow Jackets started their comeback… JJ Elmore-Bennett scored on a 60 yd. run and added the 2-point conversion to make it 28-16… La’Marcus Cheeks then intercepted a Cavalier pass on their next drive to give sanders the ball at their own 27 yd. line… Five plays later, Bennett-Elmore once again carried it in from 11 yds. out and again added the 2-point conversion to make it 28-22 with 54.7 seconds left… The Cavaliers took a couple of “knees” to run out the clock… when Bennett-Elmore moved to the “wildcat” position and Sanders overload one side of the other with blockers, he was all but unstoppable…

 

  • Whitmire 24 – Gray Court-Owings 8… The GCO Tigers hosted the Whitmire Wolverines yesterday at GCO… Whitmire won 24-8 and I do not have any scoring details… Rumors abound that the Wolverine team is made up of JV players or more and not a true middle school team… Hope that is not true but if so, why are they doing that?

 

  • Ware Shoals 26 – Hickory Tavern 0… The HT Panther traveled to Ware Shoals and just could not get their offense going and the defense had trouble stopping the Hornets as the Hornets took 26-0 win… No details on the game.

 

  • Laurens MS 42 – Thornwell 12… The LMS Tigers opened their season last night on the road taking a 42-12 win over the Thornwell Saints over at Thornwell… Sorry no details on the game.

 

  • Cambridge 48 – Laurens Academy 36…  The LA Crusaders played host to the Cambridge Academy Cougars last night at Todd Kirk Field and the two teams combined to score 84 points but bad news for Crusader fans as the Cougars had 48 of them taking a 48-36 win… Sorry no other details.

Varsity Football Action for County Varsity Teams Tonight… All games at 7:30 unless otherwise noted… Good Luck to all our local teams!

  • Thornwell host Clear Dot Academy… The saints will have their first home game this season as the host a team from Clear Dot Academy out of the Columbia area… Can’t seem to find anything about their football team on the internet and Coach Washington knows about as must about them as I do so this will be a “blind date” for the Saints… Hopefully it will be a good one and they get to ring the “victory bell” after the game.

 

  • Crusaders Travel to Wardlaw… The 2-2 Crusaders will board the bus and travel to Wardlaw Academy tonight for a contest with the 2-1 Patriots… The Crusaders are coming off the 36-34 exciting win over Oakbrook Prep last Friday night and are averaging 30.5 points per game while giving up 27 points per game… The Patriots are coming off a 36-28 win over Andrew Jackson last Friday night and are averaging 32.6 points per game while giving up 32.3 points per game… The Crusaders are averaging 30.5 points per game while giving up 27 points per game.

 

  • Red Devils Host Chapman… The undefeated Red Devils are coming off a 63-6 win over the Aiken Green Hornets last Friday night at Wilder Stadium and they are averaging 51 points per game while giving up only 12 points per game… The Red Devils will be hosting the 3-1 Panthers of Chapman HS and the Panther are 3-1 on the season… They are coming of a 48-6 win over the Raider at home last Friday night and they are averaging 32.3 points per game while giving up 20 points per game… This will be the toughest test for both teams so far this season… Go Big Red!

 

  • Laurens at Union County… The Raiders will be traveling over to Union tonight to take on the Yellow Jackets and unless something very unusual happens, the winner of his game will be getting their first win of the season… The Yellow Jackets are coming off a 62-34 loss to the Broome Centurions and the Yellow Jackets are averaging 18.8 points per game while giving up 52.5 points per game… The Raider are coming off the loss up at Chapman last Friday night and are averaging 10 points per game while giving up an average of 50.3 points per game…. Now we hope you can make the drive over to Union to cheer on the Raiders but if you can’t join us here on Real Radio WLBG for coverage of the game starting with the “Friday Night Insiders show shortly after 6:99 pm and the pregame about 6:40….  Atlanta Braves… The Braves were off last night as they were recuperating from their big celebration Wednesday night after winning the National League East Division for the 6th consecutive year… They start a 3-game series with the Marlins in Miami tonight.

Greenville Drive.

  • Drive 6 – Crawdads 3The Greenville Drive scored 5 runs in the second inning at Flour Feld last night and then went on to take a 6-3 win over the Hickory Crawdads thus claiming the South Atlantic League South Division Title after taking a 3-2 win over the Hickory Crawdads back on Tuesday in game one in game 1 of the SAL Southern Division playoff game… The Drive scored all their runs playing “small ball… The Drive will be back in action on the road Saturday traveling to the home of the Norther Division winner which is yet to be determined… For more on this story click here.

Tyler Reddick Wins at Kansas Speedway Last SundayIn the second playoff Cup Series Race out at Kansas last Sunday, Tyler Reddick won in overtime to punch his ticket into the Round of 12… His car is co-owned by Denny Hamlin who finished second just 0.327 seconds behind Reddick…Click here for more information on the race.

Playoff StandingsKyle Larson and Reddick are now atop the leader board in the Chase for the Cup and the 16 drivers that are in there will be cut down to 12 after this Sunday’s race at Bristol… To see the complete standings for the playoffs, click here.
