Varsity Football Results from Last Friday Night
- Thornwell 34 – Clear Dot 20… The Victory Bell sounded on the Thornwell campus for the first time since 2006 last Friday night as the Saints took a 34-20 win over Clear Dot Academy…The Saints led 18-0 at the end of the 1st quarter and 26-0 at the half before Clear Dot got on the scoreboard in the second half… Parker Workman completed 14 of 18 pass attempts for 137 yds. and 2 TDs… Von Washington caught 4 of the passes for 80 yds. and caught the 2 TD passes…The Saints had 161 yds. rushing with Travious Quarles finishing with 102 yds. on 16 carries and he scored 3 rushing TDs… To see more Saints stats on the game click here…The Saints are 1-3 on the season and will host Great Fall this Friday night.
- Patriots 30 – Crusaders 6… The 2-2 Crusaders traveled to Wardlaw Academy last Friday night to take on the 2-1 Patriots… The Patriots are a run oriented team and that’s just what they did as they had over 300 yds. rushing in the game… The Patriots led 14-6 at the half and the Crusaders just could not get the big play needed to get back in the game as they did last week against Oakbrook Prep… The Crusaders lone score was a 40 yd. TD pass from Ethan Collins to Garrett Murphy… The 2-3 Crusader will be back on the road this Friday night as they travel to Andrew Jackson to take on the Raiders.
- Chapman 22 – Clinton 21… The Red Devils and the Chapman Panthers went at it tooth and nails in a battle of heavyweights Friday night at Wilder Stadium and in the end the Red Devils came up on the short end of a 22-21 score in a heartbreaker for Red Devil fans… Clinton never led in the game (the game was tied twice) as Chapman scored first and in the end it came down to a missed 2-point conversion that would have won the game for the Red Devils… The Red Devils were trailing 15-22 when they started the final drive of the game at their own 1 yd. line with 1:43 left in the game… 12 plays later the Red Devils scored on a 5 yd. pass from Tyshuwan Richardson to Kadon Crawford to make it 22-21 Chapman with no time left on the clock…. After Chapman called a timeout, Coach Fountain decided to go for two and the win and the Chapman defense rose to the task to pressure and almost sack Richardson on the attempt who could not connect with a receiver… In the first quarter Richardson connected with Kadon Crawford on an 18 yd. TD pass and Tray Cook added the 2-point conversion… In the third quarter Keleja Byrd caught a 35 yd. scoring pass from Kadon Crawford with Keegan Fortman adding the PAT… Both teams had 274 yds. rushing and Clinton lad in passing yds. 194-150… To see the complete stat package and a play-by-play accounting of the game click here… The Red Devils travel to South Aiken this Friday night.
- Union County 20 – Laurens 17… Finally the Laurens Raiders also lost a heartbreaker at Union County last Friday night as they led the entire game only to have the Yellow Jackets come back and take a 20-17 win scoring the winning points with 1:15 left on the clock and the Raiders tried desperately to get back down the field and score but Union iced the game with an interception with less than a minute left and took a couple of “knees” to run the clock out… The Raiders scored on a 1yd run by Nick Danciu with 1:33 left in the first quarter capping a 52 yd. drive in 5 plays… Brock Franklin added the PAT… The Raiders scored on their next possession with 10:26 left in the half on a 1 yd. run by Denari Lee-Jackson and again Franklin kicked the PAT… Union scored once in the second quarter to make it 14-7 Raiders with 5:37 left in the half…. The Raiders final score of the game came with 1:32 left in the half when Brock Franklin kicked a 44 yd. field goal… The Yellow Jackets had a drive extended when a Raider mishandled a punt and Union recovered and went on to score… In the Yellow Jackets final winning drive there were two back-to-back pass interference calls against the Raiders that gave the Yellow Jackets the ball inside the Raider 5-yard line… To see stats on the game click here… To see a possession-by-possession summary of the game click here.
Clinton HS
- Updated: JV Football: Clinton 38 – Chapman 20… The Red Devil JV football team traveled up to Chapman HS last night to take on the Panthers … The Red Devils led 26-0 at the half and then withstood a second half comeback attempt by the Panthers to take a 38-20 win to remain undefeated on the season… Both Jaydon Glenn and Noah Garrett had pick-sixes for the Red Devils while Rhett Gillian, KJ Vance and AZ Simmons and Angelo Cromer all had rushing TDs… Coach Glenn commented after the game “Tonight we made plays when we needed to make them, our defense and special teams created some offense for us and that was extremely helpful. Our kids are improving and working hard!”

- Updated: Laurens MS 42 – Thornwell 12… The LMS Tigers opened their season last night on the road taking a 42-12 win over the Thornwell Saints over at Thornwell… Damajia Crooks had 4 rushing TDs for the Tigers while Wells Rhodes and Kevin Bryson each had one… Two-point conversions were added by Trent Williams, Logan Bragg and Mason Young… For the Saints Brian Veal scored on a 2 yd. run that was set up by a 72 yd. kickoff return by Elijah Washington… Washington also scored on a 35 yd. TD pass from KJ Thompson near the end of the game.

Atlanta Braves… The Braves played a 3-game series with the Marlins over the weekend down in Miami.
- Friday: Miami 9 – Braves 6… The Marlins took a 9-6 win over the Braves in the first game of the series… They outhit the Braves 13-11and two of their hits were homers while the Braves had only 1… Michael Harris II had a solo homer in the 3rd inning his 17th of the season.
- Saturday: Marlins 11 – Braves 5…On Saturday the Marlins took an 11-5 win over the Braves outhitting the Braves 13-9… Both teams had 4 homers in the game and the Braves homers were by Ozzie Albies (30), Austin Riley (36), Michael Harris II (18) and Matt Olson (52).
- Sunday: Marlins 16 – Braves 2… On Sunday the Marlins pulled he big brooms out of the closet as they hammered the Braves taking a 16-2 win… They outhit the Braves 17-9 and had 4 homers to the Braves 1… That Brave homer was by Marcell Ozuna (35).

Greenville Drive…. As you may recall, the Greenville Drive won the SAL League Southern Division Championship last Thursday night taking a 6-3 win in game 2 of the best of three series… That means they started a best of 3 series this weekend with the Hudson Valley Renegades for the SAL Championship.
- Sunday: Drive 2 – Renegades 0… In the first game of the series the Drive scored 2 runs in the top of the 6th inning up at Hudson Valley and made them hold up as they took a 2-0 win… The Drive did it playing small ball as there were no homers in the game… The Drive will return home tomorrow night for game 2 and if they lose game 3 will be Wednesday night at Flour Field.
- Drive Schedule… The Drive will return home to play the Crawdads in game 2 of the Division series Thursday night and the “if needed” game will be Friday night at Flour Field… To see the Drive’s schedule, click here.

- Laurens County TD Next Meeting September 21st … The Laurens County Touchdown Club kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday, August 24th… The club meets bi-weekly at The Ridge (City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters) at noon for a lunch… Each week the high school coaches will talk about their recent games and upcoming opponents… After the first meeting, there will also be quest speakers… To see a list of who those speakers are scheduled to be for each meeting click here… The TD Club will close out its season on Wednesday, December 6th with its Post Season Awards Banquet… For more information on how to join the club or become a sponsor click here… To go to another part of our website where links to videos of this seasons past meetings, click here… See you there!
