Middle School Football Results from Wednesday Night
- Gray Court-Owings 20 – Laurens MS 14 in OT… Well the GCO at LMS game that according to the middle school master schedule said was going to be played today was actually played yesterday at LMS… For those of you who missed it, you missed a great game as the two teams battled to a 14-14 tie at the end of regulation and the GCO Tigers took a 20-14 win in overtime against LMS Tigers…
- LMS won the toss and elected to defer to the second half… After the kickoff, GCO started on its Washington who weaved his way down field for a 73 yd. TD… Cheeks carried the ball in for the 2-point conversion and GCO led 8-0 with 7:19 left in the first quarter.
- After a short kickoff with no return, LMS started on their 41 yd. line and 5 plays later Wells Rhodes carried it in from the 3 yd. line with 5:18 left in the first quarter… Logan Bragg ran it in for the 2-point conversion so the score was tied 8-8
- Neither team was able to move the ball on their next possession… With 4:53 left in the half, the GCO Tigers punted on 4th down and the receiver for LMS muffed the ball and the GCO Tigers recovered the ball at the LMS 25 and two plays later GCO’s Elijah Cheeks connected with Kaleb Gilchrist on a 27 yd. scoring play with 3:27 left in the half to make it 14-8 GCO as the extra point attempt failed.
- LMS took over on their own 38 yd. line after the kickoff and on the first play from scrimmage, Logan Bragg connected with Karson Vinson who weaved his way through defenders carrying it “to the house” and scoring with 2:51 left in the half… The extra point attempt failed so the score was tied 14-14.
- In the second half both teams had trouble moving the ball due to penalties fumbles and other miscues… GCO did have the ball at the LMS 1 yd. line with less than 3 seconds left in the game but a fumble kept them from scoring and ending the game in regulation.
- LMS won the coin toss at the start of overtime and elected to go on defense… Sanders got the ball at the LMS 10 yd. line and it took them 2 plays to score with Elijah Cheeks carrying it in from the 2 yd. line… The two-pint PAT attempt failed… LMS then got the ball at the 10 yd. line and had a5 yd. procedure penalty to put them back on the 15 yd. lines… LMS got as close as the 4 yd. line but the GCO defense broke through and dropped the LMS runner at the 9 yd. line to set up a 4th and goals to go at the 9… LMS Logan Bragg tried to connect with a receiver in the endzone but the GCP defense was on him forcing an errant pass and giving the GCO Tigers the 20-14 win.
