Area Football Games Tonight
- Thornwell…. The Saints are coming off their first win of the season last Friday where they defeated Clear Dot Academy 34-20 at home… The Saints are at home again tonight as they host the Red Devils of Great Falls… Great Falls traditionally has a good football program but are 0-4 on the season…. The two teams did faceoff against each other in a preseason scrimmage that saw the Red Devils dominate the Saints but that was the first time that the Saints hit anybody other than themselves and I think Great Falls will see a different Saints team than they did several weeks ago… To see the Great Falls schedule and results click here,
- Laurens Academy… The Crusaders are going to be road warriors tonight as they travel to Blackville to take on the Raiders of Jefferson Davis Academy… The Crusaders are 2-3 coming off a 6-30 loss at Wardlaw last Friday night… The Raiders are 4-1 on the season (click here to see their schedule and results) and are ranked in the top 5 in SCISA 8-man football … They have an offense that is averaging 37-8 points per game while their defense only averages giving up 16-8 points per game.
- Clinton… The Red Devils travel to South Aiken HS to take on the Thoroughbreds… The Red Devils are coming off their first loss of the season last Friday where Chapman defeated them 22-21 at Wilder Stadium… The Red Devils had too many penalties last week and other miscues that caused them to fall last week… The Thoroughbreds are 0-5 on the season and their defense has given up a lot of points so far this season… Let’s hope that continues tonight and the Red Devils stop shooting themselves in the foot… Click here to see the South Aiken schedule and scores.
- Laurens… The Raider travel to Anderson tonight to take on the TL Hanna Yellow Jackets in the last non-region game of the season…The Raiders are coming off that heartbreaking 20-17 loss at Union last Friday while Hanna comes into the game with a 4-1 record having lost only to their cross-town rival Westside 30-42 … They feature an offense similar to what Clinton does and look for them to run a lot… To see the Hanna schedule and scores click here… We will start out coverage of the game with the Friday Night Insiders very shortly after 6:00 pm and then go live to the stadium about 6:40 or so.
Clinton HS
- JV Football: Clinton 32 – South Aiken 16… The Red Devil JV football team remains undefeated as they took a 36-16 win over South Aiken at Wilder Stadium last night… If I get any more details on this game, I will pass them on to you later.

Laurens HS
- JV Football: TL Hanna 42 – Laurens 6… The Raider JV football team hosted the TL Hanna Yellow Jackets last night and the Yellow Jackets rolled to a 42-6 win over the Raiders… The Raiders got a strong hint of what the night was going to be like as the Yellow Jackets kicked off to them to start the game and the Raider returner fielded the ball about the 5 yd. line and then was stripped of the ball about the 12 and a Hanna player scooped it up and scored and with the PAT the Yellow Jackets led 7-0 with only 14 seconds off the clock…. By the half Hanna les 28-0 as the Raiders just could not get their offense going and had trouble stopping Hanna’s… With that said the Raiders never stopped trying as evidenced by the Raiders getting the ball on their own 35 yd. line and 3 plays later Jace Campbell completed a 35 yd. pass to CJ Bates as the Raiders scored with 12.4 seconds left in the game but could not convert on the 2-point PAT to make the final score 42-6 Hanna.

Middle School Football Results from Wednesday Night
- Gray Court-Owings 20 – Laurens MS 14 in OT… Well the GCO at LMS game that according to the middle school master schedule said was going to be played last night was actually played Wednesday at LMS… For those of you who missed it, you missed a great game as the two teams battled to a 14-14 tie at the end of regulation and the GCO Tigers took a 20-14 win in overtime against LMS Tigers…
- LMS won the toss and elected to defer to the second half… After the kickoff, GCO started on its Washington who weaved his way down field for a 73 yd. TD… Cheeks carried the ball in for the 2-point conversion and GCO led 8-0 with 7:19 left in the first quarter.
- After a short kickoff with no return, LMS started on their 41 yd. line and 5 plays later Wells Rhodes carried it in from the 3 yd. line with 5:18 left in the first quarter… Logan Bragg ran it in for the 2-point conversion so the score was tied 8-8
- Neither team was able to move the ball on their next possession… With 4:53 left in the half, the GCO Tigers punted on 4th down and the receiver for LMS muffed the ball and the GCO Tigers recovered the ball at the LMS 25 and two plays later GCO’s Elijah Cheeks connected with Kaleb Gilchrist on a 27 yd. scoring play with 3:27 left in the half to make it 14-8 GCO as the extra point attempt failed.
- LMS took over on their own 38 yd. line after the kickoff and on the first play from scrimmage, Logan Bragg connected with Karson Vinson who weaved his way through defenders carrying it “to the house” and scoring with 2:51 left in the half… The extra point attempt failed so the score was tied 14-14.
- In the second half both teams had trouble moving the ball due to penalties fumbles and other miscues… GCO did have the ball at the LMS 1 yd. line with less than 3 seconds left in the game but a fumble kept them from scoring and ending the game in regulation.
- LMS won the coin toss at the start of overtime and elected to go on defense… Sanders got the ball at the LMS 10 yd. line and it took them 2 plays to score with Elijah Cheeks carrying it in from the 2 yd. line… The two-pint PAT attempt failed… LMS then got the ball at the 10 yd. line and had a5 yd. procedure penalty to put them back on the 15 yd. lines… LMS got as close as the 4 yd. line but the GCO defense broke through and dropped the LMS runner at the 9 yd. line to set up a 4th and goals to go at the 9… LMS Logan Bragg tried to connect with a receiver in the endzone but the GCP defense was on him forcing an errant pass and giving the GCO Tigers the 20-14 win.
Middle School Football Results for Thursday, 9-21-23.
- Sanders 28 – Ware Shoals 0… The Sanders Yellow Jackets hosted the Ware Shoals Hornets last night and all I can tell you is the final score and it was Sanders 28 – Ware Shoals 0.
- Laurens Academy 44 – Richard Winn 24… The Laurens Academy Crusaders traveled down to Richard Winn to take on the Eagles last night and I imagine the bus ride back seemed a little shorter than the trip down because the Crusaders took a 44-24 win… I don’t have a lot of information on this game but thanks to Coach Shane Smith, I can tell you that Mason Cooper had 3 rushing TDs of about 50 yds. each and Dominic Dempsey recovered 3 onside kicks for the Crusaders.
- Hickory Tavern 40 – Thornwell 32 in 3 OTs… The Hickory Tavern anthers and the Thornwell Saints faced off against each other and it took 3 overtimes to decide the inner and it turned out to be the Panthers as they took a 40-32 win over the Saints.
- First Quarter… The Panthers scored on the first play of game when Grayson Ganz carried it 51 yds. for a TD but the extra point failed… The Panthers scored again in the first quarter on a 5 yd. run by Grayson Ganz and he also added the 2-point conversion to make it 14-0 HT with 4:03 left in the 1st quarter.
- Second Quarter… Thornwell got on the board with 1:37 left in the second quarter on a 28 yd. run by Brian Veal but the conversion failed to make the score 14-6 Panthers… The Panthers scored one more time in eh half on a 28 yd. run by Grayson Ganz but the conversion failed to make it 20-6 Panthers at the half.
- Third Quarter… The Saints struck first in the 3rd quarter on a 4 yard run by Elijah Washington to make the score 20-12 as the two-point try failed… An interception and a fumble stopped the Panthers on their next two drives.
- Fourth Quarter… Thornwell scored again with 3:20 left in the game on a 7 yd. run by Elijah Washington and KJ Thompson carried it in for the 2-point conversion which tied the score 20-20 and that was the score at the end of the 4th quarter.
- First Overtime… As a reminder after a coin toss to decide who goes first, the ball is placed at the 10 yd. line and you have 4 plays to score… The Panthers scored first on a 6 yd. run by Grayson Ganz but the conversion failed… The Saints then got the ball at the 10yd. line and scored on the first play on a10 yd. run by Elijah Washington but the conversion fails so the score was tied 26-26 and went overtime #2.
- Second Overtime… This time the Saints got the ball first and scored on a 2 yd. run by Elijah Washington but the conversion failed… Hickory Tavern then scored on an 8 yd. pass from Kam Moore to Devin Still and again the conversion failed so the score stood 32-32 and we go to a third overtime.
- Third Overtime… The Panthers get the ball first and they score on a 4 yd. run by Grayson Ganz who also added the 2-poinyt conversion to put HT up 40-32… The Saints then got their opportunity to score but a procedure call moved them back to the 15 yd. line and 4 plays later on fourth down, the Panther defense stopped them at the 2 yd. line to giving the Panthers the 40-32 win… One whale of a game by two teams that really left it all on the field!
