Clinton HS

  • Kadon Crawford TD Club Player of the Week… Yesterday it was announced that Clinton’s Kadon Crawford has been selected as the Laurens County Touchdown Club’s Player of the week for is performance in the Red Devils 41-30 loss to South Aiken last Friday night… He is a senior outside linebacker, tight end/wide receiver and special teams player… Last Friday he had 10.5 total tackles on defense all the while recording nine 1st hits and six total tackles as well. .. Crawford had three tackles for loss; one caused fumble and one fumble recovery… Head Coach Corey Fountain states; “Kadon is a Swiss Army Knife for the Clinton Red Devils…  He never comes off the field as he plays offense, defense and special teams… He is a vocal leader as well and leads by example… He is simply a great representative of Red Devil Football.”… Kadon will be honored at the Club’s next meeting on October 5th where the featured speaker will be Coach Mike Ayers, former head football coach at Wofford College.

 

  • Tennis: Clinton 6 – Emerald 0… Catching up with the Lady Red Devil tennis team, last Friday they traveled sown to Emerald HS to take on the Vikings in a region match… Good news for Red Devil fans as they took a 6-0 win over Emerald… Chandler Dailey, Libby Dailey, Kimora Wesley, Carley MacMillan and Addy Derrick all took one-sided wins in singles action… The #2 doubles team of Deborah Goldman and Payton Nabors also took a one-side win against their opponents… For more information on this match click here… The team is scheduled to travel to Union County today.

 

  • UPDATED: JV Football: Clinton 32 – South Aiken 16… The Red Devil JV football team remains undefeated as they took a 36-16 win over South Aiken at Wilder Stadium last Thursday night… South Aiken led 8-6 at the end of the 1st quarter and 16-12 at the half… Clinton rallied to hold the Thoroughbreds scoreless in the second half as they led 24-16 at the end of the 3rd quarter in route to the 32-16 win… Owen Glenn threw 3 TD passes and KJ Vance also there one… Amari Grant caught 3 of the TD passes and PJ McGowan the other… Rhett Gilliam had a rushing TD to round out the Red Devil scoring… Afterwards Coach Glenn stated “Tonight our guys were tested, we were able to make some adjustments and make a comeback in the second half. The defense held them to zero points in the second half. Our receivers made big plays when we needed them. This was a great team win. #GBR”… The team will travel to Union County this Thursday for a 6 pm contest with the Yellow Jackets.

Laurens Academy

  • Volleyball: Crusaders 3 – Eagles 0… Last Thursday the Crusader volleyball teams traveled to Richard Winn to take on the Eagles… All I have is the final score buts its good news for Crusader fans as they took a 3-0 win over the Eagles in varsity action to run their record to 18-3-2 overall and 10-0 in region action… The middle school team also defeated the Eagles by a score of 2-0 and they have a perfect 9-0 record.

  • Madison Sherman Reaches Milestone… Recently Laurens Academy Senior Madison Sherman reached an important milestone in her volleyball career… She recorded her 1,000-career assist last against Wardlaw Academy…  She was presented with a game ball in recognition of her accomplishment…Congratulations, Madison!

 

 


Thornwell

  • Volleyball: Thornwell 3 – Ware Shoals 1… I also need to do some catching up with the Thornwell volleyball team which last Thursday defeated Ware Shoals 3-1… The Saints took the first two sets 25-17 and 25-21 before Ware Shoals took the third set 21-25 and the Big Dogs rallied with a 25-10 win…The Saints are now 6-3 on the season and 4-3 in region action…. They will face McCormick at home on today and travel to Calhoun Falls on Thursday… My thanks to Cindy Pitts for this information!

 Atlanta Brave… The Braves completed their series with the Nationals up in DC over the weekend… As you may recall I told you last Friday that they took 10-3 win over the Nationals on Thursday.

  • Friday: Braves 9 – Nationals 6The Braves continued their winning way on Friday as they took a 9-6 win over the Nationals by outhitting them 9-6… The nationals had no homers in the game but the Braves had 3… In the first inning Ronald Acuna Jr hit his 40th homer of the season and in doing so became the first player in modern MLB history to hit 40 homers and steal 60 bases in a season… Austin Riley (37) also had a 2-run homer in the 1st inning and Marcel Ozuna (36) a three-run shot in the 7th inning.
  • Sunday, Game 1: Nationals 3 – Braves 2The Braves and the Nationals were rained out on Saturday which forced them to play a doubleheader on Sunday… In the first game the Nationals took a 3-2 win…They did so by outhitting the Braves 10-6… The Braves had one homer in the game when in the top of the 9th inning Sean Murphy (21) had a solo homer as the Braves tried to rally but just fell short.
  • Sunday, Game 2: Braves 8 – Nationals 5… In the final game on Sunday, the Nationals outhit the Braves 12-10 but that is not what counts as the Braves took an 8-5 win… Both teams had 2 homeruns and the Brave homeruns were by Kevin Pillar (8) and Forest Walls (1) both two-run homers… By the way that was the 100th win of the season for the Braves as they are now 100-56 on the season.

William Byron Wins at Texas Motor SpeedwayWilliam Byron took the lead on a restart with 6 laps to go Sunday at the Texas Motor Speedway and then held on for the victory holding off Ross Chastain who finished second…Click here for more information on the race.

Playoff StandingsWilliam Byron continues to lead in the Chase for the Cup but Denny Hamlin has moved up to second replacing Martin Truex Jr. who was second place last week but drops to #5 this week… To see the complete standings for the playoffs, click here.

 NASCAR on TV This Week… The Cup Series Race will take place at the Talladega Superspeedway this Sunday at 2:00 pm…  There will be TV viewing this week of past races, practices, qualifying and other items on TV… To see the TV schedule, click here.

  • Laurens County TD Next Meeting October 5th… The Laurens County Touchdown Club kicked off the 2023 season on Thursday, August 24th… The club meets bi-weekly at The Ridge (City of Laurens Parks and Recreation headquarters) at noon for a lunch… Each week the high school coaches will talk about their recent games and upcoming opponents… After the first meeting, there will also be quest speakers… To see a list of who those speakers are scheduled to be for each meeting click here… The TD Club will close out its season on Wednesday, December 6th with its Post Season Awards Banquet… For more information on how to join the club or become a sponsor click here… To go to another part of our website where links to videos of this seasons past meetings, click here… See you there!
