SCHSL Taking Suggestions on Competitive Balance… A lot has been said around the state about the apparent fact that charter schools and private school seem to have a competitive edge and are having greater success especially in the lower classification… In the case of Gray Colligate in Columbia, some schools have decided to forfeit their games with the school in multiple sports… The SCHSL has formed a competitive balance committee to look into this and they will be reporting to the leagues executive committee on this matter soon… Lou Bezak has written an interesting article in the State Newspaper about some of the suggestions that may come out of this committee and be reported to the executive committee… If you would like to read this article, click here… These ideas could affect schools like Thornwell, Calhoun Falls, Christ Church, Southside Christian and St Joseph’s in our area should they come to pass.

- Aumar Robinson Named TD Club Player of the Week… Yesterday the Laurens County Touchdown Club announced that Clinton senior defensive end Aumar Robinson has been name the Player of the Week for his performance in the Red Devils 38-7 win over Broome last Friday night in second round action of the SCHSL Class AAA Playoffs… He had 5.5 tackles for the Red Devil defense; three tackles for loss; three quarterback sacks and two quarterback hurries holding Broome to seven points after coming into the contest scoring over 40 points per game… Coach Corey Fountain stated, “Aumar was our leading Devil defensive player Friday night. He has matured as a person and a player… Aumar has worked tremendously hard in the weight room and on the practice field to become a starter on defense… He spent every day on the scout team the past three years trying to wreak havoc on the starting defense… I’m sure at times he may have gotten frustrated but he kept coming to practice giving everything he had to give every day… It has been awesome to see him transition into the starting rotation this year.” He will be honored this Thursday when the TD Club meets at noon at The Ridge on exchange Drive… It will be the annual Clemson – South Carolina meting with former USC football great, former NFL player and Pro Bowler Patrick DiMarco speaking for the Gamecocks and former Clemson University football great and current assistant coach of the Tigers, Coach Danny Pearman speaking for the Tigers.
