- Baseball… The Saints baseball was not able to play Calhoun Falls last Friday… For some reason the Flashes did not have enough players to field a team and the game has been rescheduled for April 15th.

March Madness has Arrived… On Sunday (3-17-24) the NCAA announced the brackets for both the men and women teams that will be participating in the chase for the National Championship we call March Madness
- Finals Tonight… Tonight at about 9:20 pm Purdue and UConn will take to the court for the Men’s Nation Championship in basketball… To see a comparison between the two teams click here… TBS is scheduled to carry the game.
- Men’s Basketball… If you want to see the official bracket as released by the NCAA, click here… It will update with scores as the games finish… If you click on the pairing you are interested in it will give you time, TV availability and other information about the game or teams..

- South Carolina Wins Title 87-75… The South Carolina Gamecocks defeated the Iowa Hawkeyes 87-75 to win the school’s third NCAA Championship in Women’s Basketball… Catlin Clark and Hawkeyes jumped out to an early lead, but the Gamecocks kept chipping away at it mainly because the Gamecocks held Clark to just 12 points after she scored 18 in the first quarter… The Gamecock bench also supplied needed points at critical junctures (over 30 points) while the Hawkeye bench went scoreless…It was sweet revenge for the Gamecocks who were knocked out of the final 4 last year by Iowa and the team’s second title in the last 3 years… For much more on the game click on the score at the start of this section.

- D-1 Rankings… The latest college baseball rankings according to D1BASEBALL.COM TOP 25 came out 3-31-24… The top 5 are (previous spot in parenthesis): Arkansas (1), Clemson (3), Texas A&M (4), Tennessee (5) and checking in at #5 is Oregon State (2)… Coastal Carolina dropped a spot down to # 20 and South Carolina dropped from 18 to 22… If you wish to see the entire top 25 according to the poll click here.

College Softball
- D-1 Rankings… The latest college softball rankings put out by ESPN and USA Softball came out 4-1-24… The top 5 are (previous spot in parenthesis): Oklahoma (1), Duke (5), Georgia (3), Tennessee (4) and Texas (2)… The Clemson Tigers dropped a spot from #16 to #17 while South Carolina who was not ranked in last week’s poll checks in at #25… If you wish to see the entire top 25 according to the poll click here

- Braves Home Opening Series… The Braves had their home opening series this weekend as the hosted the D-backs for 3 games.
- Friday: Braves 6 – D0backs 5 (10)… The Braves won their home opener on Friday by a score of 6-5 but it took them 10 innings to do it… The Braves trailed 5-3 going into the bottom of the 9th inning where Matt Olson and Jarred Kelenic both had RBI doubles to tie the game… The in the 10th inning the Braves kept the D-back off the scoreboard and in the bottom of the inning Travis d’Arnaud singled to drive in the winning run… Matt Olson also had a solo homer (2) in the 3rd inning.
- Saturday: Braves 9 – D-backs 8… Saturday was another one-run game which the Braves also won this time by a score of 9-8… The D-backs scored 6 runs in the 1st inning with the Braves chipping away at the lead and scoring 2 runs in the 8th inning that would prove to be the winning runs… The Braves outhit the D-backs 15-12 with Marcell Ozuna leading the Braves at the plate going 3 fo5 with 4 RBIs as he had a 3-run homer in the 5th inning his 4th homer of the season.
- Sunday: Braves 5 – D-backs 2… The Braves pulled the brooms out of the closet Sunday as they defeated the D-backs 5-2 to earn the series sweep… The Braves outhit the D-backs 7-5 with no Brave getting more than 1 hit… However 3 of the Braves 7 hits were homers while all the D-back hits were singles… Matt Olson (3) had a solo home in the 2nd inning, Michael Harris (2) also had a solo homer in the 4th an Austin Riley (2) a two-run homer in the 8th.
- Next… The Braves start a 4-game series with the Mets in Atlanta tonight.

- Drive Open Season… The Greenville Drive opened their season Friday night on the road up in Greensboro taking on the Grasshoppers in a 3-game series.
- Friday: Drive 5 – Grasshoppers 3 (10)… The Grasshoppers scored 3 runs in the 1st inning and the Drive finally tied the game scoring single runs in the 4th, 5th and 7th innings and the game remained 3-3 until the top of the 10th inning…. There the Drive scored 2 runs and held the Hoppers scoreless in the bottom of the inning as they took a 5-3 win… The Drive’s Ahbam Liendo led the team at the plate going 3 for 5 with a triple and a RBI.
- Saturday: Grasshoppers 6 – Drive 5… On Saturday the Drive led 5-0 after 7 innings of play but the Hoppers came back and scored 3 runs in the 8th inning and 3 in the 9th to take the walk-off win… The Drive outhit the Hoppers 8-5 but the Hoppers got their hits when they would count… Caden Rose (1) had a solo homer for the Drive in the 6th inning.
- Sunday: Grasshoppers 7 – Drive 2… In the series finale Sunday, the Drive fell to the Grasshoppers by a score of 7-2… The Hoppers only outhit the drive 6-5 but they had a couple of homeruns and the Drive had none… The Drive are off today but start a 6-game series with Bowling Green tomorrow at Flour Field.

NASCAR
- William Byron Wins for Third Time this Season… William Byron became the first 3-time winner on the Cup Series this season as he took the win at Martinsville Sunday… His Rick Hendricks Motorsports teammates Kyle Larson and Chase Elliot finished second and third respectively… Click here to go to the NASCAR website where there is much more about this including the final race results.
