  • Baseball: Clinton 2 – Union 0… The Red Devils boys’ baseball team laid claim to the region championship and a #1 seeding in the upcoming baseball playoffs by taking a 2-0 win over the Union County Yellow Jackets at home last Friday night… The biggest reason for the win was the Carson Glenn who picked up the complete game win scattering 4 hits without allowing a run while striking out 11 and walking none….Meanwhile the Red Devils had 7 hits in the game with Brett Young being the only Red Devil to get more than 1 hit as he went 2 for 3… The Red Devils scored 1 run in the 4th inning when Jaydon Glenn singled driving in in Owen Glenn who was a courtesy runner for Luke Young who walked to get on earlier… The Red Devils other ruin came in the 5th inning Harrison Moore singled to drive in Brett Young who singles to get on… The Red Devils finish with an overall record of 13-10 and region record of 6-2… The Red Devils will open tournament play Tuesday hosting either Wren or Palmetto which both have 5-5 region records… To see the SCHSL Class AAAA Playoff Brackets click hereGo Big Red!
  • Softball… I need to do some catching up with the Red Devils softball team as they played two games against the Mauldin Mavericks one on Thursday and one on Friday to close out their regular season.
    • Thursday: Clinton 11 – Mauldin 10… On Thursday the Red Devils traveled to Mauldin and escaped with an 11-10 win… The Red Devils trailed 9-7 going into the 7th inning where they put 4 runs on the scoreboard and then held the Mavericks to a single run in the bottom of the inning to take the come-from behind 11-10 win… A double by both Kamryn Campbell and ME-Me Smith plus a Maverick error scored the 4 runs in the 7th inning… Me-Me Smith led the Red Devils at the plate going 4 for 4 with 3 doubles and driving in 2 runs… Sophia Sullivan also had 3 hits for the Red Devils… Smith was the pitcher of record when the Red Devils scored the 4 big ruins in the 7th so she gets the win…  Click here to see the box score of the game and click here to see the scorebook to see how the runs were scored.
    • Friday: Clinton 17 – Mauldin 2… On Friday the two teams faced off at Clinton HS… The Red Devils had an easier time of it as they took a 17-2 win in a 4 inning game… They simply outhit the Mavericks 14-3 with Me-Me smith again going 4 for 4 driving in 4 runs 3 of them coming in in the 3rd inning on a 3-run homer her 5th homer of the season… Ella Adair also went 4 for 4 driving in 3 runs and one of her hits was a double…Smith got the complete game win giving up 2 earned runs on 3 hits while striking out 3 and walking 1. .. Click here to see the box score of the game and click here to see the scorebook to see how the runs were scored.
    • Up Next for the Red Devils… The Red Devils finish the season with a 12-10 overall record and 2-6 in region play finishing 4th in the region and making the playoffs…. Now there seems to be some confusion on the SCHSL website’s bracket for Class AAA softball as it shows the Red Devils playing 2 different opponents on Wednesday and we all know that is not right… According to what Coach Terry told me last week I believe they will be headed to Palmetto this Wednesday (5-1-24)… To see the SCHSL Class AAAA Softball Playoff Brackets click hereGo Big Red!

Laurens HS

  • Softball: Wade Hampton 13 – Laurens 3… The Raider softball team closed out its regular season Friday night as they traveled to Wade Hampton to take on the Generals… The Generals led 5-3 going into the bottom of the 5th inning where things went south for the Raiders as the Generals scored 9 runs to take a 13-3 win in 5 innings… The Generals outhit the Raiders 13-6 and took advantage of 4 Raider errors 3 of which came in the 5th inning and helped the Generals score their 9 runs in that inning… Carly Edwards and Summer Nations led the Raiders at the plate as they both were the only Raiders with more than 1 hit as they had 2 each… One of Nations was a double and she drove in a run while Edwards had a double and a solo-homer in the first inning… That was her team leading 5th homer of the year… Click here to see the box score of the game and click here to see the scorebook to see how the runs were scored.
