Laurens HS

  • Kiddie Cheer Camp… Once again this summer the Raider cheerleaders and coaches will be having a Kiddie Cheer Camp… The camp is for youth 4-12 and it will be held starting on Monday June 17th and ending on Wednesday, June 19th… The camp will start at 9:00 am on those days and end at noon in the LDHS main gym… The cost is $60 per camper and if a camper has a sibling that wants to attend the cost is only $100 for both campers…  You can register and pay for the camp by clicking here… If you have any questions about this camp, contact Coach Erin Patterson at the following email address: eopatterson@laurens55.org… This camp has always been a camp where the campers have a lot of fun while picking up some valuable pointers about cheering.
  • Raider Football Camp… The Laurens Raider football team and coaches will also be conducting a camp this summer starting on Monday, June 24th and ending on Thursday, Thursday, June 27th… This camp is for youth who will be in grades 2 – 9 this next school year… The camp will be held at KC Hanna Stadium between the hour of 8:00 am and 11:30 am…  The cost is $50 per camper and you can bay for the camp online by clicking here… For a little more information about this camp click here… If you still have questions about the camp email Coach Greg Porter at: gsporter@laurens55.org

 College Baseball

  • 2024 NCAA CWS BracketsThe NCAA Division I Baseball College World Series (CWS) started Friday 5-31 with the 16 different regionals… Four teams from the state of South Carolina were among the field of 64… If you want to see an interactive bracket for the playoffs by regional click here… Catching up with the 4 teams from South Carolina and how they did this past weekend in the regionals:
  • Wofford… The Terroirs were playing in the regional in Chapel Hill where North Carolina was the #1 seed.
    • Friday: LSU 4 – Wofford 3The Terriers lost a heartbreaker Friday to the LSU Tigers as they led 3-1 going into the bottom of the 8th inning where the Tigers scored 2 runs to tie the game and then another run on a solo homer in the 9th inning to take a 4-3 walk-off win.
    • Saturday: Wofford 5 – Long Island 2… The Terriers avoided elimination on Saturday taking a 5-2 win over the Long Island University Sharks which was their first ever win in NCAA playoff win… The Sharks out-hit the Terriers 11-5 in the contest but Wofford proved to have more clutch hits in crunch-time moments.
    • Sunday: LSU 13 – Wofford 6… The win on Saturday allowed the Terriers to take on the LSU Tigers again on Sunday and the Terriers started out like this was going to be their game as they scored 5 runs in the 1st inning… However, LSU came back to take a 13-6 win over Wofford… The Terriers finished the season with a 42-20 record and were the SoCon Champions.
    • By The Way… The winner of the regional is yet to be determined as LSU defeated NC yesterday 8-4 to force a winner take all game tonight at 8:00 pm and it can be seen on ESPN+.

 

  • South Carolina… The Gamecocks played in the Raleigh Regional where NC State was the #1 seed.
    • Friday: South Carolina 8 – James Maddison 7 (10)… The Gamecocks survived a wild game on Friday taking a walk-off 8-7 win over the James Maddison Dukes… The Gamecocks scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to tie the game 7-7 and send it into extra innings… In the 10th inning, a walk and a throwing error by the Dukes put the Gamecocks Kennedy Jones put Jones on third where Will Tippett’s sacrifice fly allowed him to come home with the winning run.
    • Saturday: NC State 6 – Carolina 4… On Saturday the Gamecocks took on the host NC State and fell by a score of 6-4… NC State had 3 homeruns in the gams while the Gamecocks Will Tippett had the only round-tripper for the Gamecocks.
    • Sunday: James Madison 2 – Gamecocks 0…  The Gamecocks saw their season come to an end Sunday as the James Maddison Dukes got a measure of revenge for their loss on Friday to the Gamecocks by taking a 2-0 win over the Gamecocks… A pair of homeruns by the Duke’ Mike Mancini did the Gamecocks in… South Carolina finishes the season with a 37-25 record.
    • By The Way… NC State won the regional taking a 5-3 win over the Dukes on Sunday.

 

  • Clemson and Coastal Carolina… The Tigers and the Chanticleers were both playing in the regional hosted by the Tiger up in Clemson over the weekend.
    •  Friday: Coastal 13 – Vanderbilt 3… Friday the Chanticleers started the regional off sinking the Commodores of Vanderbilt by a score of 13-3… They scored 5 runs in the 2nd and 8th inning to go along with 3 in the 4th inning and were never really threatened.
    • Friday: Clemson 4 – High Point… The Clemson Tigers opened their region play taking a 4-3 win over the High Point Panthers… Tristan Bissetta’s single with one out in the ninth inning propelled No. 3 Clemson to a 4-3 walk off victory.
    • Saturday: Clemson 4 – Coastal Carolina 3… On Saturday the Tigers escaped with a 4-3 win over Coastal Carolina… The game went back and forth with the Tigers scoring the winning run in the top of the 9th inning.
    • Sunday: Coastal Carolina 6 – High Point 5… In their first game on Sunday, Chanticleers to a 6-5 win over the High Point Panthers to keep their hopes alive of making it to the CWS… High Point led 5-4 after 7.5 innings but Coastal kept fighting and scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th inning that proved to be the winning runs.
    • Sunday: Clemson 12 – Coastal Carolina 5… The Tigers won their regional Sunday taking a 12-5 win over the Chanticleers… The Tigers scored at least one run in each of the first five innings and pulled away with six runs in the eighth inning.
    • By The Way… The Tigers will be hosting a super regional coming up this weekend hosting either Florida or Oklahoma State depending on who wins a tie-breaking game between the two team teams out in the Stillwater Regional scheduled to be seen on ESPN +.

  • Final 8 Set… The final 8 teams that will compete in the 2024 NCAA DI Women’s College World Series is now set… The 8 teams are: Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Oklahoma State, UCLA, Stanford, Duke and Alabama… The CWS which is held in Oklahoma City started Thursday (5-30-14)…. To read more about this click here… For a look at the interactive bracket for the tournament, click here and it will carry you to the NCAA website where they have the bracket posted… It is an interactive bracket posting in that you can click on the matchups you are interested in and it will open up to show the schedule for that part of the bracket, game times, TV availability and scores once the games are completed

 Atlanta Braves For more information on the game(s) below, click on the scores.

  • Braves Host Athletics… The Braves hosted the Athletics in a 3-game series this weekend.
    • Friday: Braves 4 – Athletics 2… The first game of the series on Friday saw the Braves lead 3-0 after 2 innings of play and then go on to take a 4-2 win… Both teams had 6 hits with no homers but the Braves were just a little more timely.
    • Saturday: Athletics 11 – Braves 9…. On Saturday the Athletics rebounded to take an 11-9 win over the Braves… They outhit the Braves 16-13… Marcell Ozuna (17) had a 2-run homer for the Braves in the 1st inning but Miguel Andujar (2) countered that with a 2-run homer in the 2nd… The Athletics Brent (12) Rocker had a solo homer in the 4th inning and Matt Olson (9) countered that in the 5th inning with a solo homer but the Athletics simply scored more than the Braves.
    • Sunday: Braves 3 – Athletics 1… The Braves took the series win on Sunday when they took a 3-1 win over the Athletics… The Braves did it by outhitting the Athletics 7-2… The Braves will be off tonight before they head to Boston Tuesday for a 2-game series with the Red Sox.

  • Drive Finish Series… The Greenville Drive finished their series with the Rome Emperors over the weekend at Flour Field… They dropped the first 3 games of the series earlier in the week.
    • Friday Emperors 5 – Drive 3 (10)… The two teams played to a 3-3 tie at the end of 9 innings then the Emperors won the game on a 2-run homer in the 10th inning as they then sent the Drive down in order in the bottom of the inning.
    •  Saturday: Emperors 4 – Drive 0… The Drive continued their struggles on Saturday as the Emperors took a 4-0 win… They did it by outhitting the Drive 9-6… The Drive did help them with 3 errors and only 3 of the Emperors runs were earned.
    • Sunday: Drive 7 – Emperors 6… The Drive barely avoided being swept in the series Sunday as they managed to take a 7-6 win… The Drive trailed 6-1 going into the bottom of the 9th inning where they scored 6 runs on 3 hits, 3 walks and an Emperor error.
    • Off Tonight… The Drive are off tonight and return to action tomorrow when the travel to Hickory, NC to start a 6-game series with the Crawdads.

NASCAR

  • Austin Cindric Wins at Cup RaceSunday at the World Wide Technology Raceway in Illinois, it looked like the race was Ryan Blaney’s to lose as he had a good lead with 2 laps to do… Well, that is just what he did (lose) as he ran out of gas on the Next-to-last lap and coasted on to the finish line finishing 24th with Austin Cindric blowing past him to take the win…  Click here to go to the NASCAR website where there is much more about this including the final race results.
  • Standings… Denny Hamlin still leads the Driver Cup Standings with 530 points with Kyle Larson moving up to second with 513 points… The rest of the top 5 are Chase Elliott (507), Martin Truex, Jr (490) and William Byron fifth with 488 points…To see the driver standings for the Cup Series click here… Once you get there you can also click on links to see the standings in Xfinity and Truck Series using tabs in the upper right corner of the posting.

 This & That:

 Summer Camps at Clinton YMCA… The Clinton YMCA has released their schedule of Summer Youth Sports Camps for this year… To see a list of those camps including dates, location, times and cost click here… These cams do have registration deadlines and you register at the Clinton YMCA… The next camps are:

  • Soccer Camp at PC… This camp will be June 5-7 at the PC intramural Field from 9:00 am to 11:00 am… It is open to boys and girls ages 6-12 and will be conducted by Coach Tania Harris… The cost is $50 for YMCA members and $60 for non-members… The deadline to register is Monday, June 3 @ 4:00 pm.
