INCREASE IN WATER AND ELECTRIC BILLS IN AUGUST

The Laurens Commission of Public Works, announced at last night’s monthly meeting, that there will be a slight rate increase in water and electric bills beginning August First.

Water bills will see a $1.15 a month increase for 5,000 consumption, and electric bills will see a $2.80 a month increase based on 1,000 kilowatts.

This increase compares with a 8.7% rate increase by Duke Energy, which will average $12.00 a month.

“We are just about keeping our heads above water, our last rate increase was in 2015, due to our staff working hard to keep our rates as low as can be,” said General Manager John Young.
