Boat & Motor Sink in Theft Attempt

A boat theft in Laurens County last Friday reportedly led to a sinking. The Laurens County Sheriff’s Office arrested 36-year-old William Anthony Salters of Ivey Bluff Road, Waterloo and charged him with Grand Larceny and Malicious Damage. The Grand Larceny warrant alleges that on July 19th Salters took away a john boat and a 2022 Mercury outboard motor, with intent to permanently deprive the owner of the property, valued at $7,000. The Malicious Damage warrant alleges that William Salters did willfully, unlawfully and maliciously do approximately $7,000 in damage to property of the victim by attempting to steal the victim’s boat, sinking the boat and submerging it’s Mercury outboard motor, damaging the motor and other items in the boat.
