Local Notes

Clinton HS

  • JV Football Host Newberry… The Red Devil JV football team will be at home today as they host the Newberry Bulldogs at 6:00 pm… The team is 1-0 after defeating the Raider 6-0 at Laurens last Thursday.
  • Volleyball: Clinton 3 – Laurens 2… Catching up on some volleyball action back on Tuesday, the Red Devils defeated the raiders 3-2 at Laurens HS… The Raiders won the first set 22-22 but the Red Devils rebounded taking the next two sets by scores of 25-11 and 25-22… The Raiders dug down deep and managed to take a 25-22 win in set 4 to force a 5th and deciding set… There the red Devils took a 15-10… To see some individual stats on the Red Devils in this match, click here.… The team is now 2-1 on the season and will travel to Strom Thurmond today for a JV / Varsity match.
  • JV Volleyball: Clinton 2 – Laurens 1… In JV volleyball action prior to the varsity action on Tuesday, the Red Devil JV team ran its record to 2-1 also as they took a 2-1 win over the Raiders at Laurens…  The Raiders won the first set 25-23 but the Red Devils won the next two sets by scores of 25-13 and 15-13 to take the 2-1 win… To see some individual stats on this match click here.

Laurens HS

  • JV Football… The raider JV football team will be hosting the BHP Bears tonight at 6:30.

Laurens Academy

  • Volleyball at Home Today… The Crusader volleyball teams will be hosting Richard Winn this afternoon starting with middle school action at 4:00 pm and the varsity to follow about 5:00 pm.

Thornwell

  • Volleyball: Wolverines 3 – Saints 2… Tuesday night the Thornwell Saints volleyball team traveled over to Whitmire today to take on the Wolverines… The two teams battled back and forth but in the end the Wolverines prevailed by a score of 3-2… They won the first set 25-19but the Saints came back to win the next two sets by the same 25-19 margin… The fourth set went to the Wolverines by a score of 25-20…  In the fifth and deciding set, the score was tied often but the Wolverines prevailed by a 15-12 score… Tough loss for the Saints… The team will be back in action today at 5:30 when they host the SC School for the Deaf and Blind

Laurens County Touchdown Club… The next meeting of the Laurens County Touchdown Club will be today at noon at The Ridge on Exchange Drive… Cal Pitts of Clinton HS and Ethan Collins of Laurens Academy will be honored as the last two TD Club’s Players of the week… The local high school coaches will report on their last two games and about the games tomorrow night… Coach Steve Englehart will be the featured speaker… The cost is only $15 and you can pay at the door… Hope to see you there!

  • Hickory Tavern Start Football Today… The Hickory Tavern football team starts it season today at 5:00 pm hosting the Greenwood Christian Hawks.

Atlanta Braves

  • Braves 5 – Rockies 2Last night the Braves jumped out to a 4-0 lead after 1 inning of play due in part to Jarred Kelenic  hitting his 14th homer of the season a 3-run shot to right field and then went on to take a 5-2 win over the Rockies in Atlanta… The Braves outhit the Rockies 7-5 with Charlie Morton getting the start and the win (8-7).

Greenville Drive

  • Dash 1 – Drive 0… For the second night in a row, the Greenville Drive were shutout by the Winston-Salem Dash at Flour Field as the Dash took a 1-0 win scoring in the first inning and then making it standup… The run was scored playing small ball with the Dash outhitting the Drive 6-3.

NASCAR

  • Chase Briscoe Wins at DarlingtonSunday down at Darlington in the last “regular season” race Chase Briscoe took the win finishing well ahead of the second-place driver Kyle Busch… For more information as to who was leading at the suspension of the race click here.
  • Playoffs now that the regular season is finished, the 16 Cup Drivers that have made the playoffs and are in the Chase for the Cup Championship are now locked in… Spots 1-5 are occupied by Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick. William Byron and Ryan Blaney…. Spots 6-10 are occupied by Denny Hamlin, Chase Elliott, Brad Keselowski, Joey Logano and Austin Cindric…   Spots 11-16 are occupied by Daniel Suarez, Alex Bowman, Chase Briscoe, Harrison Burton, Ty Gibbs and Martin Truex Jr.… To see the final standings for all the drivers in the Cup Series click here.
