Clinton HS
- JV Football: Clinton 26- Newberry 7… The Red Devil JV football team hosted the Newberry Bulldogs last night at Wilder Stadium and the only details I have on that the Red Devils won by a score of 26-7 to run their record to 2-0… If I get details later, I will pass them on to you.
- Varsity Football… The Red Devil varsity football team will be on the road for the first time this season as they travel down to Newberry to take on the Bulldogs… Newberry comes into the game with a 2-0 record averaging 44 points per game while giving up 7 points per game… They are ranked #10 in Class AAA in the latest SC Media Poll… Go Big Red!
Laurens HS
- JV Football: Raiders 26 – Bears 20 (OT)… The Raider JV football team hosted the BHP Bears last night and I’m glad to report that the Raiders took a 26-20 win over the Bears in overtime.
- The game was tied 20-20 at the end of regulation and the Raiders won the coin toss and elected to defer in the overtime thus giving the Bears the ball first at the 10 yard line… The Raider defense dug in and held the Bears to the point that the Bears faced a fourth down and goal to go from the 9-yard line… They attempted a pass but the Raiders Jerimiah Simpson with help from other sacked the Bears quarterback so they came away with nothing… On the second play from scrimmage the Raiders quarterback Buddy Cheeks carried it in from the 9-yard line and the celebration was on.
- Cheeks also had a rushing TD in the first half and completed a short pass to CJ Bates for another score in the first half.
- Isai Fernandez had a 3 yd. TD run in the third quarter and added a 2 point conversion earlier in the game.
- The Raiders are now 1-1 on the season and will host AC Flora next Thursday at 6:30.
- Varsity Football Goes Bear Hunting Tonight… The Raider varsity football team will go Bear hunting tonight and I am sure they will find some up at BHP… The Bears are big, strong and quick and come into the contest ranked #1 in Class AAA with a 2-0 record… The raiders will have their hands full, and I am sure that a large number of Raider fans there will inspire them to do their best… I hope you can go but if not join us at 6:20 as we begin our coverage here on Real Radio WLBG and on the internet at www.wlbg.com. Laurens Academy
- MS Football: Crusaders 32 – Richard Winn 26 (2 OT) … The Crusader middle school football team hosted the Richard Winn Eagles yesterday and good news for Crusader fans as they defeated the Eagles 32-26 in two overtimes… I don’t have any other details on the contest, but I can tell you that the team is 2-0 on the season and will travel to WW King next Thursday night for a 6:00 pm contest.
- Crusader at Home Tonight… The varsity football team will be hosting the Knights of Oakbrook Prep out of Spartanburg tonight and hope to get back on the winning track after their first loss of the season last Friday… The Knights are 0-2 on the season and after losing big 64-18 to Richard Winn in their first game they made the second game much closer as King Academy defeated them by a score of 22-12… Crusader fans need to come out and cheer the Crusaders on to help be sure that the Knights don’t get their first win of the season… Go Crusaders!
Thornwell
- Volleyball: Saints 3 – SCSDB Hornets 0… The Saints volleyball team hosted the South Carolina School for the Deaf and Blind Hornets last night and took a 3-0 win… set scores were 25-9, 25-3 and 25-5… The saints are now 3-1 in region play… They will be in action again next Tuesday (9-10-24) as they host the Dixie Green Hornets at 5;30 pm
MS Football: Saints 14 – Wildcats 8… There was more bell ringing at Thornwell yesterday as the Saints C-football team took a 14-8 win over the Edgewood MS wildcats from Ninety Six… No other details on that game.
Middle School Football
- Hickory Tavern 32 – Greenwood Christian 8… The Hickory Tavern Panthers opened their football season yesterday hosting the Greenwood Christian Hawks…. I am pleased to tell you that the Panthers took a 32-8 win over the Hawks
- The Panthers scored first on about a 70 yd. TD run by Sam parsons and they also got the 2-point conversion to go up 8-0with 6:11 left in the first quarter.
- The Hawks mishandled the ensuing kickoff, and the Panthers recovered at the hawk 45 and 4 plays later they scored on a 24 yd. run by Parsons and Aiden Eaton made the two-point conversion to go up 16-0 which was the halftime score.
- The Hawks got their only score in the opening drive of the second half to make it 16-8
- The Panthers responded with Omar Almanza scoring on a short run and Shamere Grant getting the two-point conversion on sheer triple effort.
- The Panthers last score came on a 45 yd. run by Parsons with Grant again adding the two-point conversion to make the final 32-8 Panthers.

- FBS AP Poll… The latest FBS AP Poll has a change in the top 5… The top 2 are still Georgia and Ohio State… Texas moves up to #3 followed by Alabama and Notre Dame to round out the top 5… Spots 6-10 are occupied by Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Missouri and Michigan… Clemson dropped from 14 to 25… To see the entire top 25 AP Poll click here

- Rockies 3 – Braves 1… Last night the Rockies avoided being swept by the Braves in their 43-game series in Atlanta by taking a 3-1 win over the Braves… The Braves scored a single run in the first inning to go up 1-0 but could not make that standup as the Rockies outhit them 6-5 but more importantly the Rockies had 2 homers among their 6 hits… The Braves start a weekend series with the Blue Jays tonight in Atlanta

- Dash 4 – Drive 3… For the third night in a row, the Greenville Drive were defeated by the Winston-Salem Dash at Flour Field this time by a score of 4-3… The dash simply outhit the Drive 13 to 8… The Drive and the Dash will finish their 6 game series over the weekend and that will also conclude the Drives season.

- Chase Briscoe Wins at Darlington… Sunday down at Darlington in the last “regular season” race Chase Briscoe took the win finishing well ahead of the second place driver Kyle Busch… For more information as to who was leading at the suspension of the race click here.
- Playoffs… now that the regular season is finished, the 16 Cup Drivers that have made the playoffs and are in the Chase for the Cup Championship are now locked in… Spots 1-5 are occupied by Kyle Larson, Christopher Bell, Tyler Reddick. William Byron and Ryan Blaney….
