- Javen Cook TD Club Player of the Week… Monday it was announced that the Red Devil junior running back Javen Cook has been selected as the Laurens County Touchdown Club’s Player of the Week for his performance in last Friday night’ performance in the Red Devils 23-14 win at Newbery… Cook offensively had 22 carries for 235 yards and one touchdown… Javen was a workhorse all night and had long runs of 39 and 49 yards, respectively… Cook averaged 10.7 yards per carry on the night… His 49 yard TD run put the Devils up at the time 12 – 7 in the 3rd period in the come from behind win over the 10th ranked AAA Bulldogs… Head Coach Corey Fountain stated, “Javen has tremendous work ethic… He is learning to become a leader on and off the field… In the past two games he has run the ball with great determination and explosiveness… We look forward to seeing his progress the rest of the season.”… He will be honored at the club’s next meeting on September 19th at noon at The Ridge on Exchange Drive.
- Update: JV Football: Clinton 26 – Newberry 7… Last Friday I told you that the Red Devil JV football team defeated the Newberry Bulldogs 26-7 at Wilder stadium but I did not have any details on the game… Well I do now… Clinton led 14-0 at the half and did not allow the Bulldogs to score until the 4th quarter… Zy Butler had 2 rushing TDS for the Red Devils and Owen Glenn had a TD pass to Graydon Watkins… The Red Devil defense also put points on the board as Ajavian James had a 40 yd. pick-six… Coach Glenn commented “Our kids put together a solid game where everyone contributed to the win. Our defense did a great job containing the quarterback and taking away their deep ball threat. The offense operated well and made big plays the entire game. #110%”… The team is 2-0 on the season and will host Chapman Thursday night at 6:00 pm.
- Clinton 23 – Newberry 14… The Red Devil varsity football team traveled down to Newberry last Friday night and trailed 7-6 at the half but came back and took a 23-14 win in the Battle for the CNNGA… The Red Devils gave up an early score to the Bulldogs and finally scored (Kason Copeland 5 yd. run) about a minute left in the half but missed the PAT to make the score 7-6 Bulldogs in a first half of very physical football… The Red Devils scored first in the 3rd quarter on a 49 yd. run by Javen Cool who finished the night with 235 yds. rushing to make it 12-7 Red Devils… Newberry returned the ensuing kickoff for a TD to go up 14-12… Clinton answered that scoring on a 47 yd. rush by DJ Clark and getting the 2-point conversion from Tushawan Richardson to go up 20-14… Lukas Kuykendall added a 28 yd. field goal in the 4th quarter and the Red Devils stopped a late Newberry drive to take the win.
- The Red Devils had 404 yds. of total offense (369 rushing) to Newbery’s 252 (169 rushing)
- Javen Cook was the games’ leading rusher with 235 yds. and 1 TD on 22 carries.

- BHP 55 – Laurens 6… The Raider varsity football team football team traveled up to the
Bear’s Den at BHP last Friday night and found out that the Bears are very deserving of their #1 ranking in Class 3 A as the Bears defeated the Raiders 55-6… They also found out that the Bears Marquise Henderson is on the Mr. Football watch list for a very good reason as he saw less than full duty but still gained 218 yds. rushing and scored 3 TDs… The Clemson commit also set the all-time BHP career rushing record last Friday night… A third thing the Raiders found out is that it is hard to get a consistent offense when the top 2 quarterbacks are out with injury and you are forced to run a wild-cat offense… To their credit the Raiders did mount some drives and fought hard to the very end but had to settle for 2 field goals by Brock Franklin.
